A man took to Twitter to share how he’s earning very little money but his parents are forcing him to buy a car as a status symbol for them to flex.
Writing in to @ConfessTweetMY on Twitter, the man in Malaysia that she they are facing a problem and at the proverbial crossroads in life.
The man said that he is only earning a salary of RM1,500 (or SGD $451.28) per month, but his parents are insistent on him buying a Honda.
He added that it’s a dream car but he knows he can’t afford one.
He also said that his mother is a housewife while his father is jobless after falling sick, and that he and his siblings will give money to their parents every month because they have no income.
The netizen said that he is “so sad” because his materialistic parents are always talking about other people’s children who are successful.
He then asked them why can’t they live a simple life, be content and make do with what they have.
He said that other parents would pray for their children to get better jobs, but his parents would ask him “when do you want to buy a Honda” or “When will you find another job so you’ll be able to afford a Honda?’
Netizens weighed in on the man’s situation, and said that sometimes fathers and mothers expect their children to provide them with a luxurious lifestyle because they raised them, even though they couldn’t give their children a luxurious lifestyle themselves, expecting their child to give them everything after just entering the workforce.
Another netizen added that his parents were also like that, asking him to buy a Honda Jazz, which he now owns for about three years, but was a struggle for him initially, he couldn’t buy anything for himself or give his parents money.
