I have been eating mala almost every other day for the past few years and have been getting bouts of diarrhoea after eating it probably due to the fact that I have IBS.
Despite this, I still believe that it is worth eating even if it does cause me some discomfort.
Went to google on why I always lao sai
When I first started to eat mala, I never experienced any adverse effects. But over time, I started to notice that I was getting diarrhoea after eating mala.
At first, I was quite worried that I might have a food allergy or some kind of digestive issue, but after talking to my doctor and doing some research online, I realised that it wasn’t anything serious.
The cause of the diarrhoea is the capsaicin, which is an active ingredient in mala. This ingredient is what gives mala its spicy flavour, but it can also cause some digestive issues in some people.
For me who has IBS, I would just lao sai because of the spiciness.
Tried to downgrade to xiao la
I tried to choose the spiciness level to ‘xiao la’, which means small levels of spiciness but even so, it did not help my bowels and I would still feel the urge to lao sai.
That was when I thought to myself that it doesn’t matter anymore, I’ll just go for the most spicy level each time and deal with the bouts of lao sai when it comes.
Despite the fact that I have to keep going to the toilet, I still believe that mala is worth eating even if it does cause me some discomfort.
The flavour of mala is so unique and delicious that I can’t help but crave it.
