A 53-year-old man was sentenced to 32 years of jail on 27 Jul 2020 after he raped his biological daughter twice at knifepoint. The man was found guilty of 9 charges including aggravated rape, aggravated sexual assault, molestation and voluntarily causing hurt.
The offence was committed at the wee hours of 27 Mar 2016. At that time, the man and the victim were having a drinking session at his flat. The victim left asleep halfway through the session and only to find that her father was molesting her when she woke up.
The man then threatened the victim with a penknife and told her that he would slash her if she resists. The man proceed to rape the victim 2 times and forced her to perform a sex act on him.
The victim has attempted suicide after the incident and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
During the court hearing, the prosecutor states that ” the man accused his daughter of sexually assaulting him twice, claiming that she had made him her “sexual plaything” and “coerced him into pleasuring her against his will”.
The man then criticised the victim on her character during the trial while trying to discredit the victim. The man describes the victim as “not virtuous”, a “chronic alcoholic” and someone who hung out with men who were “good for nothing”.
The prosecutor then requested the court to sentence the man to 36 years of jail with 24 strokes of the cane. However, the defence lawyer then said that the jail term should not be more than 28 years.
The Judge later sentences the man to 32 years of jail considering the fact that the victim was sexually assaulted at knifepoint. The man’s past criminal record was taken into consideration during sentencing and additional jail term in lieu of caning was not imposed due to the length of the sentence.
