
A 40 year old man was jailed for six months and two weeks. after overdosing his daughter with sleeping pills after quarreling with his wife.
The man is still currently married but lives separately from his wife. He wanted to show his wife that their constant disputes with each other caused their daughter to suffered from stress and he further wanted to point out that it was her fault for not taking proper care of their daughter.
The man was given three charges of ill-treating a child in his custody, intentionally perverting the course of justice and using insulting words on the police after pleading guilty to the charges given to him.
At that point in time, his daughter was living with him as he had custody of the victim. The man even told his daughter to lie to the police that she had consumed the medication to commit suicide.
For ill-treating a child in his care, the man could have been jailed for up to four years, fined up to S$4,000, or both. For perverting the course of justice, he could have been jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both.Â
