I used to think that the only way to become rich was to hang out with rich people.
After all, everyone knows that the rich get richer. They have all the connections, the money, and the means to reach the top. So naturally, I thought that if I wanted to become wealthy, I should surround myself with people who already had wealth.
Boy, was I wrong.
Sometimes in life, you don’t get what you expect. I assumed that if I surrounded myself with wealthy people, their wealth would rub off on me. I thought I could learn from them, copy their success, and that eventually, I would become just as wealthy as them. I was so wrong.
Instead of becoming rich, I ended up spending more money than I had. I found myself wanting to keep up with the wealthy people I was hanging out with. I bought designer clothes, expensive cars, and went on expensive vacations. The problem was that I couldn’t afford any of it. I was living beyond my means and I quickly found myself in debt.
Not only was I spending more money than I had, but I was also losing sight of my goals. I had started to become so obsessed with keeping up with the wealthy people around me that I had forgotten why I was even trying to become wealthy in the first place.
Sure, I had the opportunity to learn a lot from the wealthy people I was hanging out with. But, instead of learning how to become wealthy, I was learning how to spend money. I was becoming materialistic and focusing more on how I could impress others, rather than how I could make money.
Eventually, I realized that I wasn’t going to become wealthy by simply hanging out with wealthy people. I had to take the initiative and put in the hard work to make my own money. I had to find a way to make money that was unique to me and that I could do consistently.
So, I started my own business. I began to focus on creating and selling a product that I was passionate about. I also began to focus on my finances and started budgeting and saving money.
The moral of the story is that you can’t become rich by simply hanging out with wealthy people. Sure, you can learn a lot from them, but you have to take the initiative to make your own money. You have to create something that you can be passionate about and you have to be smart with your finances.
So if you’re looking to become wealthy, don’t think that you’ll get there by simply hanging out with wealthy people. Put in the hard work, be smart with your money, and you’ll find that you can become successful on your own.
