40 year old Tan Yeow Chong who was a member of a Telegram group related to the Sammyboy Forum was give eight weeks of jail and a fine of $22,500 today (24 Jan) for possession of obscene materials and also sharing some of them in a chat group.
He pleaded guilty to sending obscene objects via electronic means, having 5,537 obscene images and 17,219 obscene video files in his possession with another four charges taken into consideration during sentencing.
Group had 25,000 members at its peak
The chat group, “Sam’s lots of CB collection” which Tan was a member in had about 25,000 members during the time when it was still existent.
Together with another group, “Sam’s House of Sins”, both of the groups were linked to the notorious Sammyboy Forum which was used by users to share and discuss things related to ‘adult’ nature.
Recap on their doings
A woman lodged a Police report on 24 October 2019 when she found out about the group chat sharing obscene materials about girls.
Tan and three others were then suspected by the Police and investigations uncovered some 17,219 video files and 5,537 pictures of an obscene nature at Tan’s address which was stored in his devices.
Tan had earlier downloaded them from online sources for his own viewing and did not create the materials.
Together with the other three men, all of them were subsequently arrested and charged in court with some already sentenced.
Penalties
Tan could have been jailed up to three months and/or fined for his act of transmitting obscene objects by electronic means.
For his act of possessing obscene films, he could have been jailed up to six months and/or fined up to $20,000.
As for the other three men:
- 47 year old Yee Wing Kay who was Tan’s partner in crime was sentenced to eight weeks jail and given a $7,000 fine earlier this month.
- 31 year old Lincoln Anthony Fernandez was in December sentenced to eight weeks jail and given a fine of $20,000.
- 28 year old Wong Ming Jun, will return to court for a pre-trial conference next week.
