A spokesperson for the Thai government said that the omicron variant is causing the number of infection in children to surge.
Hospitals in Thailand are making “special preparations” for the start of the school year commencing next month, with data showing that more than half of the children who were killed by the coronavirus were below the age of 5, in January.
One of the reasons being that the children are too young to be vaccinated, with the government urging parents to get vaccinated.
Public hospitals in Thailand are also launching a special treatment system for children who are infected after the commencement of the school year.
Beds have been ordered to be arranged, along with medical personnel and a system of transfer in case of a surge in the number of severely sick children.
Vaccination of children between 5 to 11 are also being sped up, and the Public Health Ministry’s Immunity Promotion Subcommittee is also proposing boosting fully vaccinated children between the age of 12 to 17 with a half or full dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
