While discussing the possibility of cross-border travel for leisure in a tv interview, Tourism Malaysia’s director-general, Musa Yusof, said that “they should see some movement by the first quarter of 2021”.
He mentioned that Malaysia will be focusing more on cross-border travel with their neighbouring countries rather than international travels. Currently, cross-border travels for essential services are allowed between Singapore and Malaysia. If this arrangement continues without any issue, leisure travels will soon be allowed.
During the interview, Musa has listed Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia as their potential leisure travel partners.
Earlier in late July, it was announced that the Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA) and the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) will commence between Singapore and Malaysia.
As mentioned previously by the 18th Menteri Besar of Johor, the border between Singapore and Malaysia should reopen as soon as possible as the state government is not capable of finding jobs for 100,000 Malaysia who might lose their jobs in Singapore if the border closure continues.
