POLICE ARREST MAN PRETENDING TO BE A WOMAN ONLINE FOR CHEATING

Police have arrested a 24 year old man for his alleged cheating of a 29 year old man.

On 20 May, police from the Bedok Police Division received a report of an internet love scam. A 29 year old male befriended and developed feelings for a scammer online. The victim believed that the scammer was a female.

The victim was eventually cheated of more than $8,000 for reasons such as repayment of loans ,medical fees and paying of parents debts.

In a day, the police managed to find out the identity of the scammer and he was arrested on May 21. He will be charged on May 23 for cheating.

The offence of cheating carries an imprisonment term of not more than 10 years and a fine.
