A TikTok user who works at the Changi Airport, shared that behind the scene of the world’s best airport, the conditions for their workers are not as world class as one might expect.
The netizen shared that the toilets for the staff have remained the same for many years despite many feedback attempts – the floors are dirty and wet and little cockroaches could be seen crawling around.
She said that when you walk past the toilets, you can even smell urine. She captioned her video ” Tourists only see the nice parts of Singapore, the people who work at the back end, handling all your baggage, get nasty toilets.”
In the video, the netizen said that the toilets used to be even worse, and that this current state of the toilet is already considered an “improvement”.
At least 2 dead insects could be seen in the basin area of the toilet, in the video, as well as a hand soap bottle that has been purportedly left there for years with a dirty handle on it.
In another follow up video, the netizen shared that she used to put fresheners in the toilets but they would go missing mysteriously.
And she was so unwilling to use the hand soap inside the toilet that she even brought her own soap bottle for her personal use.
She said “they can build so many airport terminals but can’t provide workers with better toilets? The workers who make everything work like clockwork aren’t appreciated.”
A spokesperson for Changi Airport Group (CAG) said that the toilet in question is located at the Airmail Transit Centre, which is managed by SingPost.
SingPost said that they take a “serious view of the matter and have informed the cleaning agency to ensure that the hygiene standards at Airmail Transit Centre toilets have been maintained. We will monitor the condition of our facilities closely.”
