The 16-year-old teenager charged with the murder of a 13-year-old boy in the River Valley High School ax murder, was in court again today (10 August) via video link.
He was ordered by the court to be remanded 2 more weeks at Changi Prison’s Complex Medical Centre for his psychiatric evaluation.
The court heard that the teen was assessed at IMH in 2019 following a failed suicide attempt.
He has been kept in remand since being charged.
His parents and family members were present at the court.
The teen’s lawyer, Mr Sunil asked for 5 minutes for the parents to speak with the boy to check on his well being.
The prosecution objected, reasoning that this was a capital charge and investigations were still being carried out.
District Judge Brenda Tan rejected the defence’s request, saying:
“We understand the concerns of the parents but I think this is not the time yet for the parents to speak to him.”
The case has been adjourned to 24 August.
