Three masked robbers in Malaysia blew up an ATM machine and escaped with RM349,000 (or SGD $106,222), with the entire heist being over in just 5 minutes.
The authorities received a call for help on 23 February at about 6.48am, and when officers arrived, they found two ATMs that were severely damaged – the suspects had escaped with the cartridges that contained the money.
Police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said that the CCTVs were painted over with black paint and blinded, according to the New Straits Times.
The surveillance recordings from the CCTV near the bank in Setia Alam ended up being blurry, and the police are appealing for information about the brazen robbery and the masked robbers.
The robbers’ getaway vehicle has since been identified as a white Mitsubishi ASX, with the police believing that the robbers blew up the ATMs using gas pressure, according to the police’s forensic department.
The robbers had managed to only break into one ATM, with the other one being badly damaged but still remaining intact.
The total amount of losses is estimated to be around RM409,000, including RM60,000 from damages to both the ATMs, according to The Star.
No loss of life or fire was reported.
