According to a media release, Singapore and Malaysia border are set to re-open on the 10 Aug 2020. However, the arrangement is only catered to a certain group of people.
Both Singapore and Malaysia government has come to an agreement to implement 2 different schemes for the group of travellers. These 2 schemes are ‘Reciprocal Green Lane’ (RGL) and ‘Periodic Commuting Arrangement’ (PCA).
Under the RGL scheme, it will allow for essential businesses and official travels to take place in between the 2 countries.
While the PCA will allow citizens of both countries with long term visas to enter the other country for work purposes.
However, travellers who are eligible for these 2 schemes are required to comply with COVID-19 preventive measures.
For RGL travellers they will have to submit an application to the visiting country for approval before entering the country.
Those PCA workers will be allowed to return to their home country on short-term leave provided that they have stayed at the other country for at least 3 months straight.
More details will be announced on 01 Aug 2020 while both countries are working to finalise the details of the SOP.
However, there are still no plans to re-open the border for leisure purposes. This means that for Singaporeans who need a short getaway to JB will have to wait.
