Sold the flat, wife take half, open salon, close down, then ask me for more money

Divorced my wife, split our HDB profit ($200k cash to her). She blew it all on a failed beauty salon in 8 months, and now she is suing me for “extra spousal maintenance”.

Looking for advice from bros who survived toxic divorces in Singapore Courts.

My ex-wife (32F) and I (34M) divorced a year ago due to irreconcilable differences (mainly her extreme gambling/spending habits). We sold our 4-room BTO flat in Punggol. After clearing the mortgage, we made a clean ~$400,000 net cash profit.

During the divorce settlement, I wanted to be fair. We had no kids. I gave her 50% of the flat sale proceeds ($200,000 cash lump sum) plus she kept all her luxury bags and jewelry. The court order clearly stated this was a full and final settlement regarding matrimonial assets.

What did she do with her $200k cash?

Instead of placing it in fixed deposit or CPF, she decided she wanted to be an “entrepreneur boss babe.”

She rented a high-end commercial space in Orchard, spent $120k on fancy aesthetic renovations, bought overpriced facial machines from China, and opened a lash/nail salon.

She had zero business experience. She spent $10k a month on Instagram influencers who brought in zero real customers.

Result? Eight months later, the salon went bankrupt and shut down. She lost every single cent of the $200,000. She is now in debt to commercial landlords and suppliers.

Yesterday, I received a lawyer letter from her representative.

She is applying to the Family Justice Courts to vary the maintenance order, demanding that I pay her $3,000 PER MONTH in spousal maintenance backdated to six months ago!

Her claim? She claims she is “currently unemployed, medically depressed due to business failure, and accustomed to a high standard of living during our marriage.”

I couldn’t believe my eyes! She took TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS of hard cash from our house sale, blew it on a vanity business project, and now that she’s broke, she wants me to act as her lifetime ATM machine?!

I work as a middle manager earning $7k/month. If I have to pay her $3k/month, I won’t even be able to afford my own rental room and basic living expenses!

Has anyone successfully defended against an ex-spouse claiming “increased maintenance” after they squandered their own court-awarded asset settlement? How likely will the Family Court entertain her ridiculous application?
