MOH said that two more cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in Singapore through two travelers who had transited through Singapore on their way to Australia and Malaysia.
However, they remained in the Changi Airport transit holding area until their departure for their destinations and had not entered Singapore or had any interaction with the community.
At the time of writing, there is still not evidence of any community transmission from the cases.
En route to Australia
One of the cases was transiting through Singapore en route to Australia, after departing from Johannesburg on 27 November via flight SQ481 and arriving at Changi Airport on the same day.
He later arrived in Sydney on 28 November via flight SQ231.
The traveler was fully vaccinated and his pre-departure test on 24 November in South Africa was negative.
En route to Malaysia
The other case had travelled from Johannesburg as well and was transiting through Singapore to Malaysia.
Malaysia’s health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the traveller was their first recorded Omicron case.
The traveller, a 19-year-old female student, was fully vaccinated and had arrived at the Changi Airport via flight SQ479 and reached Malaysia on 19 November.
15 other passengers were identified as her close contacts on the flight and they had all not entered Singapore or had any interactions with the community – they had remained in the transit holding area.
MOH added that contact tracing for both cases are ongoing.
