34-year-old Sim Hui Chun, was fined $3,000 yesterday (28 September) after pleading guilty to a charge of insulting and using threatening words against a public servant, and another for public nuisance while drunk.
Three other charges were taken into consideration for his sentencing.
What happened?
Sim was intoxicated after a drinking session with his friend on 1 July 2021, at about 9.15pm at Shinjuku Restaurant at Cuppage Plaza, according to Straits Times.
He then assaulted his friend following a dispute, and the other patrons then stepped in to intervene.
The police soon arrived at the scene and approached the two of them outside the restaurant to interview them, and Sim then insulted Sergeant Yan Lufeng and threatened to kill him, as well as trying to remove the officer’s mask.
Sim threatened Sgt Yan in both English and Mandarin, saying “Sir, you give me your address. If I can kill you, I’ll definitely kill you.”
His actions were captured by the police officer’s body-worn camera, which captured him trying to remove the office’s mask with both his hands.
Sim was then arrested.
