In a shocking case that has garnered international attention, a 42-year-old man from China has confessed to the murder of a 25-year-old transgender woman, Woranun Pannacha, in Pattaya, Thailand. The suspect, identified as Fu Tongyuen from Hubei province, was apprehended at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport as he attempted to flee the country.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, the incident occurred in a rented apartment in central Pattaya. Fu met Woranun on the evening of April 25 at a beach in South Pattaya, where they agreed to meet later that night. Fu allegedly paid Woranun 8,000 baht (approximately S$314.66) for sexual services. However, Woranun reportedly backed out of the arrangement, leading to a dispute over the payment.
An argument ensued between 1 AM and 2:30 AM, during which Fu claimed Woranun scratched his face and kicked him off the bed. In a fit of rage, he allegedly strangled her until she lost consciousness. Following the murder, Fu is accused of mutilating Woranun’s body, using scissors to dismember her and remove body parts, including her silicone implants and heart. He reportedly stated that he wanted to “play” with her body.
Discovery and Arrest
The gruesome details of the crime came to light when residents of the apartment complex noticed a foul odor emanating from Fu’s unit. They used a spare key to enter the apartment and discovered the body, prompting them to alert the authorities. Police arrived at the scene around 10 AM on April 26, and Fu was arrested shortly thereafter.
Surveillance footage revealed that Fu had purchased scissors, tape, and plastic bags shortly before the murder, leading investigators to suspect that the crime may have been premeditated. Fu was found with visible scratch marks on his face at the time of his arrest.
Ongoing Investigations
Pattaya police have stated that they are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the details surrounding Woranun’s death. They have also dismissed rumors of organ harvesting, which circulated following the incident. Fu has expressed remorse for his actions, claiming he lost control after being assaulted by Woranun.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to refrain from speculation and await the official findings. This tragic case highlights the ongoing issues of violence and discrimination faced by transgender individuals, prompting calls for greater awareness and protection for marginalized communities.
