A family in Thailand has gone viral after hiring coyote dancers to perform in front of a village shrine to fulfil a spiritual vow made during a job hunt.
The unusual celebration took place in Chachoengsao province, where two scantily clad dancers were seen performing energetic routines beside a roadside shrine while loud music blasted from speakers mounted on pickup trucks.
According to local reports, the performance lasted for four continuous hours as relatives and villagers gathered nearby to watch.
Family Fulfilled Promise After Hospital Job Success
The family explained that the celebration was organised after one of their relatives successfully secured a position at a local hospital.
A woman identified as Ms Noon said her sister had prayed at the shrine while searching for employment and made a vow that if she got the job, the family would return with offerings and hire coyote dancers to entertain the spirits.
In Thailand, such vows are relatively common in certain rural communities, where locals believe spiritual entities can help grant wishes involving health, money, business success or employment opportunities.
Shrine Offerings Included Pig Heads, Chickens And Liquor
Besides the dancers, the family also brought several traditional offerings believed to be favoured by spirits worshipped at the shrine.
Photos from the scene showed boiled pig heads, boiled chickens, bottles of white liquor and other ceremonial items placed in front of the shrine.
The shrine itself is reportedly highly respected among villagers in Nong Prue Kan Yang village in Tha Takiap district.
Social media users in Thailand reacted with amusement after videos of the dancers performing in front of the shrine surfaced online.
Some netizens joked that spirits in Thailand were now receiving “VIP entertainment packages”, while others defended the family, saying fulfilling vows is considered important in local spiritual culture.
Coyote Dancers Often Appear At Thai Ceremonies
Coyote dancing, which involves performers dancing in revealing outfits to upbeat music, has long been associated with nightlife and entertainment culture in Thailand.
However, in recent years, such performances have increasingly appeared at unusual events including funerals, temple fairs and spiritual celebrations.
The latest incident comes not long after another viral case in Thailand where a family hired sexy dancers to perform at a 59-year-old man’s funeral to honour his dying wish.
Despite criticism from some conservative groups, others argue that these performances are simply part of modern Thai folk culture and celebration traditions.
