Singapore is set to deepen its push into artificial intelligence after Nvidia announced plans to establish its first research hub in the country focused on AI-powered robotics and autonomous systems.

The new facility will reportedly concentrate on embodied AI, an emerging field involving intelligent machines capable of interacting with the physical world. This includes technologies such as autonomous vehicles, drones and robotic systems designed for real-world tasks.

According to reports, the Singapore hub will become Nvidia’s first research centre in the republic and only its second major AI research presence in the Asia-Pacific region. The move further strengthens Singapore’s growing reputation as a regional technology and AI development powerhouse.

The research centre is expected to work closely with universities, government agencies and private-sector companies to improve AI infrastructure and accelerate robotics innovation across Southeast Asia.

Singapore has increasingly positioned itself as a preferred destination for global AI firms due to its advanced digital infrastructure, political stability and strong government support for emerging technologies.

The announcement was made during the opening of the ATxSummit, where artificial intelligence remained one of the biggest themes discussed by industry leaders and policymakers.

Alongside Nvidia’s plans, Singapore also announced a new AI robotics testbed scheduled to launch later in 2026. The platform will allow companies to design, test and validate commercial robotics solutions before wider deployment.

Several major companies are expected to participate in the initiative, including Grab, DHL and Certis.

The government will additionally collaborate with robotics firms such as Unitree and Slamtec under a new Centre for Intelligent Robotics initiative.

Proposed AI applications include autonomous food delivery, parcel transportation, security patrols and cleaning operations. Officials stressed that these technologies are intended to support human workers rather than completely replace them.

The development comes as countries worldwide race to secure leadership in artificial intelligence, robotics and automation, sectors widely expected to shape the future global economy and high-value technology jobs.

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang had previously described Singapore as an ideal location for developing AI foundation models, citing the country’s strong connectivity and strategic position in Asia.
