According to a media release, a Chinese national has been charged in court for attempting to bribe a police officer after he was caught breaching the circuit breaker measures.
The 27-year-old Chen Long is a work permit holder in Singapore.
In a media release published by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) Singapore:
“The man was charged with one count of corruptly offering S$50 to one Chan Hui Shi, a Public Transport Security Command Officer of the Singapore Police Force (SPF), as an inducement to refrain from taking enforcement action against him for breaching Regulation 3A(1)(a) of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.”
Chen Long was caught not wearing a mask properly on the day of the incident. Under the new COVID-19 law, anyone who is caught not wearing a mask outside of their residences will be fine for $300 for first-time offenders.
Singapore takes corruption very seriously. Anyone convicted with corruption will face a heavy penalty of $100,000 fine, 5 years jail term, or both.
In this case, trying to avoid a $300 fine with bribery, end up being smack by such heavy penalty is not worth it. Do think about the consequence before carrying such an act. Chen Long will definitely regret his actions as he is not only in trouble with the law but also throwing his future away in Singapore.
