Mr Heng, who is currently 84 years old, approached a CPF Board officer to enquire on the silver support scheme. However, he was informed that he and his wife did not qualify for the benefits of the scheme as they were currently staying in a 5 room flat.
Mr Heng, who stays with his 84 year old wife, do not have any income even though they have stayed in their 5 room flat for almost 43 years old.
Mr Heng stated that the amount of seniors who own a 5 room flat but meet the Silver Support Scheme’s other criteria is small.
He also said that the majority are likely to be in their 70s or 80s and just like Mr Heng, they just want to live out their remaining years in a familiar place.
Mr Heng hopes that the authorities can do a review on the scheme’s criteria so that such seniors would also be able to enjoy and receive the payouts as well.
