S’POREANS RENTED TRIBECAR TO GO JB, END UP CAR BROKE DOWN & HAD TO PAY $400 TO TOW BACK

0

What was meant to be a leisurely Monday escape for a group of four Singaporeans to Johor turned into an unexpected ordeal when their rental car, sourced from Tribecar, broke down, leaving them with a hefty bill and a ruined day, according to a report by Mothership.

The Ill-Fated Journey: A Bid to Beat the Traffic

In an attempt to avoid the weekday traffic blues, the group opted to drive to Johor on a Monday, only to be met with an unfortunate twist of fate – their rental car succumbed to mechanical issues, stranding them on Jalan Dato Onn Utama.

Having chosen Tribecar for their rental needs, the group paid over $60 for an eight-hour car rental. Despite being repeat customers familiar with the route up to Kuala Lumpur, this experience would prove vastly different from their previous trips.

Seah, one of the group members, highlighted concerning signs that hinted at trouble. The car’s mileage raised eyebrows, doubling that of a typical 10-year-old vehicle, and the air-conditioning malfunctioned on the Causeway. The driver, Aq, noted peculiarities in acceleration and steering.

The Unplanned Pit Stop: Breakdown on Jalan Dato Onn Utama

The car’s misfortune struck just moments away from the group’s intended lunch spot. Aq promptly contacted Tribecar, only to be instructed to tow the car back to a Singapore workshop, emphasizing that any repair attempts in Malaysia would jeopardize their claim for reimbursement.

Forced to part with over $400, nearly depleting their funds for the day, the group had the car towed to Singapore, opted for a cab to salvage their lunch plans, and finally took a bus back to Singapore. The unexpected turn of events left them not only frustrated but also short of a day’s leave.

Tribecar’s Response: An Investigation in Progress

A spokesperson for Tribecar defended the car’s condition, stating that it had been serviced on Nov 23, with all components, including the alternator, deemed functional. An authorized workshop is currently examining the vehicle to determine the cause of the breakdown. A commitment to refund the towing cost awaits confirmation that the breakdown wasn’t due to the hirer’s actions.

0

The Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a case of loan shark harassment.

On 16 November 2023, at about 11.40 pm the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment along Tampines Street 91, where the gate and door of a residential unit was sprayed with red paint and a debtor’s note was left behind.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from the Bedok Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on 29 November 2023. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman is allegedly involved in another case of loanshark harassment. One mobile phone was seized as a case exhibit.

The woman will be charged in court on 1 December 2023 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loan sharks and not work with or assist them in any way. The public can call the Police at ‘999’ or the X-Ah Long hotline at 1800-924-5664 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.

MORE PEOPLE IN S’PORE INFECTED WITH HIV, UP BY 10% – DON’T ANYHOW PIAK AROUND

0

A total of 188 newly diagnosed cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections were reported among Singapore residents in the first 10 months (January to October) of 2023. This is 10% higher than the number of cases in the same period in 2022.

2.   The Ministry of Health (MOH) has analysed 104 cases that were reported from January to June 2023. Of these cases:

i. 97% were male;

ii. 27% were 30 to 39 years, 21% were 40 to 49 years and 23% were 50 to 59 years; and

iii. 48% had late-stage HIV infection2 at diagnosis. This is 11% lower compared to the same period last year.

3.   Intercourse remains the main mode of HIV transmission, accounting for 96% of the 104 cases. Hetero people accounted for 28% of cases while 68% of the cases occurred in men who have intercourse with men, including men who reported intercourse with men and women (4%).

4.    58% of the newly reported cases were detected during the course of medical care3 of which a greater proportion are at a late stage of HIV infection than other modes of detection. Another 13% were detected during routine programmatic HIV screening4 while 18% were detected through self-initiated HIV screening. The rest were detected through other forms of screening. A higher proportion of men who have intercourse with men (25%) had their HIV infection detected via self-initiated HIV screening compared to hetero people (3%).

5.    Annex A provides detailed data for cases reported from 1985 to June 2023. Information on newly reported HIV cases is regularly updated on the MOH website.

Public Advisory

6.    The most effective way to prevent HIV infection is to remain faithful to one’s spouse/ partner and to avoid casual intercourse, or intercourse with prostitutes. Persons engaging in high-risk intercourse behaviour, such as having multiple partners or engaging in casual or commercial intercourse, are strongly advised to use condoms consistently and correctly to reduce their risk of HIV infection and other STIs. In addition, preventive measures like HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis are highly effective when used as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention strategy.

7.    Knowing one’s HIV status enables one to receive treatment early and prevent others from getting infected. The only way to know one’s HIV status is to go for a test. MOH and the Health Promotion Board (HPB) recommend that every adult should get tested at least once in their lifetime regardless of risk factors. Individuals who engage in high-risk behaviours should go for regular HIV testing every three to six months.

8.    With early and effective treatment, persons living with HIV can lead lives no different from others. Although there is no cure for HIV, persons living with HIV can be treated with antiretroviral therapy which is effective at controlling the infection. This also provides an opportunity to protect their partners from infection as people living with HIV who are on regular treatment and have an undetectable viral load have practically no risk of transmitting the virus to their partners. 94% of Singapore residents living with HIV undergoing treatment have achieved undetectable viral load.5

9.    HPB will continue working with partner organisations on programmes and campaigns to encourage at-risk individuals to take protective measures, such as going for early and regular HIV testing.

10.    More information about HIV and AIDS as well as where to undergo HIV testing or purchase HIV self-testing kits can be found on go.gov.sg/preventhiv.

INDIA NATIONALS WHO CONSPIRED TO STEAL $1.7K WORTH OF GOODS @ ORCHARD UNIQLO, JAILED

0

Two more Indian nationals, who were involved in a previously reported shoplifting case last month, have since been jailed on 1 December, according to The Straits Times.

The two women, 27-year-old Brahmbhatt Komal Chetankumar and 27-year-old Christian Arpita Arvindbhai, are in Singapore on Student passes.

They previously claimed that they didn’t intend to steal but eventually pleaded guilty to shoplifting, being sentenced to 40 and 45 days imprisonment each.

Recap

In a shocking incident that unraveled in the heart of Singapore, a group of foreign students, sharing an apartment, orchestrated a series of shoplifting escapades at the popular Uniqlo store in Orchard Central.

This brazen act involved removing price tags and RFID chips from clothes before heading to self-checkout counters, leading to a significant legal repercussion for four individuals, according to Channel NewsAsia.

Foreign Students Living Under One Roof

The masterminds behind these carefully planned thefts were four Indian nationals, aged between 20 and 26, studying in Singapore on student passes. Living together in the same apartment, they operated as a cohesive unit, exploiting their shared living situation to execute their nefarious plans.

The orchestrated thefts took place in October at Uniqlo Orchard Central. The group, comprising six individuals, meticulously divided tasks. Some selected the items to steal, while others skillfully removed price tags containing RFID chips. The removal of these tags rendered the payment machines oblivious to the stolen items, allowing the group to exit the store undetected.

The Grand Heist

On the evening of October 12, the group descended upon Uniqlo Orchard Central, aiming to pilfer various items. They filled shopping baskets with stolen goods, skillfully navigating the self-checkout counters. Ingeniously, they paid for inexpensive tote bags, creating the illusion of a legitimate purchase. This audacious move resulted in the successful theft of 64 pieces of merchandise valued at approximately S$1,800.

The daring group returned a few days later, attempting a repeat performance. However, this time, a vigilant security guard at Uniqlo Orchard Central noticed suspicious behavior. Two thieves hastily packed clothes into purchased tote bags. When confronted, they resorted to lies and attempts to escape, leaving behind the stolen items at the self-checkout counter. An online police report was lodged, initiating an extensive investigation.

Law enforcement, armed with CCTV footage, identified the thieves and apprehended them on October 30. The investigation revealed that the second group had attempted to steal 72 pieces of clothing valued at about S$2,300. The prosecutor emphasized the premeditated nature of the crimes, highlighting the ease of committing shoplifting offenses and the difficulty in detecting and apprehending the perpetrators.

Legal Consequences: Jail Sentences for the Culprits

The legal repercussions were severe. Shihora Ridham Mukeshbhai, Hun Smit Ashokbhai, Kuvadiya Milan Ghansyambhai, and Chauhan Ruchi Sanjaykumar were sentenced to jail terms ranging from 40 to 65 days. The court considered a range of charges, including group theft and attempted theft with common intention.

While these four faced justice, it was revealed that there were others involved who had left Singapore before investigations began. Brahmbhatt Komal Chetankumar and Christian Arpita Arvindbhai did not proceed with their guilty pleas, leaving their cases open for pre-trial conferences later in the month.

GROUP PUSHING & FIGHTING AT JURONG FUNERAL, ALMOST TOPPLE THE COFFIN OVER

0

Funerals are typically solemn occasions, offering solace to grieving friends and family. However, an extraordinary event in Jurong East deviated from this norm when a confrontation unfolded around the deceased’s coffin, turning a sorrowful gathering into a chaotic scene.

Fracas broke out

The focal point of the disturbance was a flower garland thrown onto the coffin, setting off a dramatic struggle. The altercation involved two conflicting groups – the family of the departed and a posse led by her boyfriend.

A video shared on Facebook by STOMP captures the intensity of the clash. A group approaches the coffin from behind, carrying a blue garland, only to have it swiftly removed by others. What follows is a melee of pushing, shoving, and shouting, with the coffin perilously tilting at one point.

The dispute, as reported by the deceased’s uncle to Shin Min Daily News, stemmed from the family’s reluctance to let the boyfriend, allegedly responsible for the niece’s death, bid her farewell.

To escalate matters further, the family called the police, who were ready at Mandai Crematorium. The incident unfolded on 19th Nov at Block 247 Jurong East Street 24, according to STOMP. The deceased’s father, in a police report, claimed the boyfriend and his entourage tried to disrupt the procession, leading to chaos and falls.

Conflicting Narratives: Sorting Fact from Fiction

While the police confirmed a report had been filed, a witness presented a different version. According to them, it was the deceased’s family who instigated the scuffle, pulling at the coffin to remove the flowers and tossing them on the ground. This conflicting testimony adds a layer of complexity to an already perplexing situation.

BF FORCES GF TO LIE ABOUT NOT BEING AN ATHEIST TO HIS PARENTS

0

I’m a 25-year-old woman and will soon be meeting my boyfriend’s family for the first time. He is from a devoutly Catholic family and while he is an Atheist and they somewhat tolerate that he is worried they will not accept the fact I’m atheist and he is fairly certain they will ask about my religion when we meet.

He has asked me to lie about my religion and either say i’m Catholic like him as it will make the whole meeting and future relationships go smoother and has tried to tell me he accepts my religion so how they feel shouldn’t matter to me and it doesn’t matter if they know the truth. I disagree with this though and I don’t want to lie as if we end up lasting it’ll be a lie I have to carry for my life and i’m not ashamed of this and don’t want to hide it away like it’s some dirty secret.

He thinks i’m being unfair here and that if I an open about my religion with his family it will only make things awkward or very terse. Frankly if they don’t like me I don’t care but I also accept that’s easier said than done for him as they are his family.

Am I being unfair here when he is only trying to make the meeting easier?

Here are what netizens think:

  • You shouldn’t have to hide your own beliefs for anyone. However, your boyfriend isn’t wrong either. He supports you, but he knows his parents will most likely dislike you because of your beliefs and he’s simply trying to avoid that situation.
  • Don’t lie, as when the truth comes out it would be a mess. You don’t have to talk religion or religious beliefs at all on the first meeting. If pressured, you can say you are not comfortable talking about something that is devising. Note, if your boyfriend and you are serious, the conversation will have to happen eventually.
  • if he asks you to lie about this, what else will he want you to lie in the future

GUY DATED AN ATTACHED GIRL & NOW SHE WANTS TO LEAVE BF FOR HIM

0

Some background info, I am 25 M and i was at a small party of my best friend about 2 weeks ago. He has a girlfriend who I got to know over the years we are just semi friends if that makes sense I invite her to my parties she invites me to hers but that is basically our entire text convo.

So i was at this party started talking to a girl named Sarah (not her real name). She was alone at the party and she was a close friend of my best friends girlfriend. So nothing really happened at the party we just talked and we clicked REALLY WELL and I got her insta and number.

So we started chatting and hit it off even more and after a week or so I asked her if she wanted to get a drink sometime? She agreed so the next day in the afternoon we went out. At this point I haven’t asked if she is in a relationship neither has she mentioned anything to me that she is in one.

So the day arrives I ask her if she needs a pickup she says “no i have someone taking me there”. So i go out with her make some smooth jokes she grabs my hand and stuff. So after drinking and having lunch for an hour and a half I had to go because I had a appointment for work. So we walk to the place where she would be picked up.

This is where the beginning of the screw up happens and I should’ve seen the signs. So we walk back she holds my hand and drags me into a side alley where we make out for about 5 mins. So some information the alley connects to the parking lot but it’s at an angle so you can not look into the alley from the parking lot if that makes sense. So I tell her “I need to go shall I walk with u to ur lift?”

Sarah: “No No No hurry to your car and go to work I had a great time with you (with a smile)”

Later she text me if i wanna do something later in the week i invite her over to my place for dinner and we did it with each other. After I ask her if she needs a ride home she tells me no someone is picking me up. I let her go and she tells me her lift is waiting around the corner, and then we make out and she leaves. So me being someone who hasn’t had a girlfriend in 5 years tells my best friend about this when I went over to his place

He grabs me by my arm and tells me no you know she has a boyfriend who she’s been with for 3 years. At this point my heart rate starts raising and my friend can see my shock. So I explained everything to him show him the texts.

His girlfriend, who was also with us then told us Sarah recently has been talking to her about breaking up with her boyfriend of 3 years since a couple of days.

I am someone who would never EVER cheat on someone or with someone so I feel AWFUL AND HEARTBROKEN. But this is not where it stops because I felt so much anger and guilt towards Sarah.

I walk outside of the room where my best friend and his girlfriend are and tell them I am calling her. They try to stop me but I proceeded and went outside and call her.

She picks up the phone and tells me wait let me get some where more private so I know her boyfriend is there. I tell her everything she starts crying and blaming it on me that I never asked if she was in a relationship which is ridiculous after some time talking we calm down and talk about it

She then tells me she wants to break up with her boyfriend and be with me. My heart RAISES to the moon and i don’t know what to do I tell her PLEASE SARAH DON’T and start yelling it over the phone. My friend and his girlfriend come in and see me hang up the phone.

She still texts me and tells me that she is sorry and she really likes me and she doesn’t know what to do and still ASKS ME IF SHE NEEDS TO BREAK UP HER BOYFRIEND.

After this, my friend also told me it was probably her BOYFRIEND WHO DROPPED HER OFF ON BOTH OF HER DATES WITH ME! because she doesn’t have a driver’s license.

Which explains why she didn’t want me to take her to the car.

MAN SAYS HE IS ATTRACTED TO PREGNANT WOMEN, HAS A “BREEDING FETISH”

0

A netizen shared how hs is attracted to pregnant women.

Here is the story:

“Im a 23 year old male who is very attracted to pregnant women and I also have a breeding fetish.

So although I defiantly want to become a father someday (Children are awesome!) but I get so turned on by pregnant women and post pregnancy bodies.

However, When I see a pregnant woman I like to imagine that she is carrying my child instead.

When I see a woman that Im attracted to I usually think to myself “We would make nice babies” or I would vision her carrying my child.

Mombods are hot as well and all this crap about “Women hitting the wall at 30” Get outta here, Your ugliness hit the wall as soon as you came out of your mothers walls!

Another thing is that I hear men being scared of being baby trapped but A woman can baby trap me all she likes.

Keep poking holes in those condoms cause I want to knock you up and raise kids anyway”

GIRL TAKES DNA TEST, FINDS OUT SHE IS NOT RELATED TO HER RELATIVES

0

A girl shared a story of how she took a DNA test one day as her boyfriend had bought her a DNA test kit as a birthday gift and after using it, she found out that she is not related with her relatives who have taken the test before.

Here is the story

“Here is a bit of context before the story.

I am born and raised as an Eurasian in Singapore.

My boyfriend got me a DNA test for my birthday, and I took it. I’ve always been curious about my maternal grandfather’s family, because both of his parents have very ambiguous pasts and were children during WW2 so we’ve always suspected they were Jews who fled Europe during WW2. The results seemed to suggest that (I’m 19% Ashkenazi Jewish) but that’s not what this is about.

My mother has a huge family and two of my cousins on her side have taken DNA tests through the same company and all of us have opted to be visible to any relatives who’ve taken the test. According to my results, I’m not related to either of them, nor am I related to anyone who showed up as relatives for them.

So, someone in my mother’s family was adopted, or someone had an affair that produced a child, or something. I’ve had to make my cousins keep this a secret until we can work out what is actually going on. I’ve started reaching out to my matches and I’m going to chat to my mom and my grandma to see if they have any explanation for this.

I kind of regret doing the test, because I really don’t want to cause drama. The only reason I’m even looking into this further instead of pretending I never saw the results is because my cousins know.

Maybe that makes me a coward, I’m just scared of anything changing or anyone being mad at anyone else and me being the cause of it.”
