MAN HIRED MOVERS WHO ANYHOW DUMPED HIS THINGS, ITEMS DAMAGED & MONEY MISSING

I had to move to my new place so I employed *company name redacted* to move my stuff. It turned out mover surveyor “S” and his team are very unethical and devious. Pls allow me to explain.

After surveying my place, S told me everything could be done in 1 day. On the day of the move, the movers M and WZ told me it couldn’t be done in a day!?!? S then conjured lies putting the blame on me for not telling him more of the place, when he clearly surveyed my house completely and I told him everything that was needed to know as I did with all the prospective movers who surveyed my place.

Bubble wrap was NOT used for my valuable items, despite being it would to me. Everything was packed in a crazy rush like a bunch of mongrels going after a fish. That’s fine with me except there were many damaged and missing items. I lost a few hundred bucks in the process!! I informed S and he told me my valuables didn’t need any protection despite telling me it would during the initial survey itself. He also put the blame on me for losing the money instead of doing an investigation .

The move workers were utterly terrible and wasted time by talking longer breaks than usual, smoking indiscriminately despite knowing I’m allergic to smoke. WZ was very rude to me in the move too. He kept making disparaging remarks bout my place which he has no right to. Due to their laziness and incompetence, the move was brought to Day 2 which was totally unnecessary.

The workers did an equally deplorable job on Day 2. They did not help me find the items to pack despite being told to do so on the quotation list. They did a terrible job sorting my items. I had to do everything by myself! So basically, I was paying for the mover and I was the mover myself.

After they moved everything recklessly, they were very aggressive and rude towards me like thugs and I was also charged at an insane cost of $2.9K!!? It was double than the original cost and S informed me there were NO hidden costs as well.

The amount of boxes and effort made did not justify that amount. The workers prevented me from counting the boxes properly and demanded I paid on the spot.

I told them I had to count the boxes first and that I was had health issues and I called S and he was very arrogant and rude as usual. He told there was no need to count the boxes as they were trustworthy and tried to blame me as usual by saying ‘I may count wrongly to lower the cost so no need to waste their time’.

I asked WZ for the invoice and he was very hesitant to do so. But after much assertion, he relented, the invoice cost was significantly lower than $2.9K. I wanted to take a photo of it, but he said there was a ‘mistake’ in the invoice and refused to allow me to take the photo.

He and C continued to be aggressive and rude towards me. They continued to press me to pay them. I reluctantly paid for the move ($2.9K), WZ told me he would give an invoice to me the next day and he gave me his hp number.

I decided to count the number of boxes very carefully at home and the amount clearly did NOT justify the high cost of the move! I called the hp number WZ gave me to explain the situation, but the number he gave me was false which was utterly shocking!

I trusted them by employing their services and overcharged me by doing a minimal job. They lack professionalism during the move too, expecting me to do everything when it was their job to help me move. They were very rude and aggressive towards me. There were a number of damaged and missing items which were precious to me.

I attached the original quotation they gave me. But it ballooned to $2.9K as stated!

I have also attached a few screenshots of the awful job they did. It’s not all. Due to a 1 day delay and despite knowing bout it, the movers made me bedroom a huge mess expecting me to spend the night in such deplorable conditions.

Also, the cables and wires for my consoles were neatly arranged only for them to make it a horrible tangled mess in the box!

I had to go back multiple times to ensure they did not leave any items behind, and to my disappointment, they did and I had to retrieve it myself!

With a good conscience, I would advise all house owners looking for a good mover to steer clearly away from this corrupt company and not to trust the positive reviews

WOMAN PAID WITH TWO 5-CENT COINS, KENA SCOLD BY CASHIER “WE DON’T ACCEPT 5 CENTS!”

0

Facebook user Happy Ooi Delaoma asked in a Facebook post if the Singapore 5-cent coin is still considered money today.

She said that she went to a bakery to buy some bread and her total bill amounted to $10.60, of which she paid with cash that included 2 5-cent coins.

However, she said that when she tried to pay with the 5-cent coins, the cashier allegedly gave her a bad attitude and told her that they don’t accept 5-cent coins.

She then doubled down on her question, asking if the 5-cent coin in Singapore has lost its value, and added that it was not like she had tried to pay with 212 5-cent coins for her payment.

She then asked if she has a lot of 5-cent coins at home, does she need to pay extra just to bank in the coins or does she need to exchange it first.

She then asked if anyone has any 5-cent coins that they don’t want, can give her.

Here is what she said

I don’t want to complain, I am just curious, may I ask if the 5cent is still considered money today ?

I just went to bakery to buy bread and I spent a total of $10.60, I gave 2 5cents , the cashier said we don’t accept 5cents, I am curious , has the 5cents lost its value ?

omg I only gave 2 5 cents and I got bad attitude from the cashier. . It is not like I gave 212 5 cents

I am a mountain turtle so I don’t know if still have value or not

If I have a lot of 5 cents at home, do I need to pay extra if I put them in the bank or do I need to exchange first ? Or does anyone not want 5 cent, can give me ? (just kidding)

S’PORE RUBBISH COLLECTOR SAYS THEY EARN MINIMUM $5K/MONTH, CAN EVEN GO UP TO $8K

A 23-year-old garbage collector recently appeared in a podcast and shared about his job and how those in his line of work can earn up to $8,000 per month.

Speaking on the @thecommonfolkssg podcast, the man said that garbage collectors can earn a minimum of $5,000 monthly.

He was then asked why he chose to be a garbage collector at such a young age, and the man then told them that he did it for the money.

He added that his supervisor has a Master’s degree, and his colleagues are even riding BMW motorcycles, and they are earning a minimum of $5,000 per month which can go up to $8,000 per month.

The hosts of the podcast then said that the money does sound great but they would feel embarrassed if they were in his shoes, and the man then added that “of course it’s embarrassing, but it’s an honest living and it’s all about the money.”

The man then added that he does get negative comments from his friends and family about his line of work and career choice, but he chooses to ignore them and focus on saving money for his family instead.

He was then asked about how he gets used to the smell of rubbish while working, and the man told them that he only needed 1 day to get used to the rubbish smell.

Netizens in the comments section were varied in their responses, with one affirming the man’s claims and saying that it was indeed possible to make really good money in the industry.

Another netizen added that rubbish truck drivers are paid really well, while another commenter said that despite the handsome pay, if the drivers get into an accident, it will lead to quite a sizeable deduction from their salary.

Other netizens commended the man’s work, saying that they respect him for his career choice and applauded his willingness to work any job as long as it was an honest living.

DBS KENA LIAO, MAS INCREASES PENALTY ON DBS AFTER ONLINE BANKING SERVICES DOWN AGAIN

0

DBS bank users across Singapore faced problems accessing the bank’s online banking services on Friday (5 May) before the service was resumed hours later, it was the latest service disruption since the outage on 29 March.

Following the latest service disruption, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has increased the penalty on the bank that was imposed for a previous disruption, and ordered for a further review on the latest incident.

In a statement released by the MAS, they described the incident as falling short of their expectations for banks and said that it was unacceptable.

MAS’ statement

MAS Imposes Further Additional Capital Requirement on DBS Bank for Disruption of Banking Services

Singapore, 5 May 2023…

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has imposed on DBS Bank Ltd (DBS Bank) an additional capital requirement, following the widespread unavailability of DBS Bank’s digital banking services on 29 March 2023 and a subsequent disruption to its digital banking and ATM services on 5 May 2023. Together with the additional capital requirement imposed on DBS in February 2022 , this translates to approximately S$1.6 billion in total additional regulatory capital.

2. The additional capital requirement on DBS Bank is now a multiplier of 1.8 times to its risk weighted assets for operational risk, an increase from the multiplier of 1.5 times that MAS applied in February 2022 following the November 2021 disruption. MAS may subsequently vary the size of the multiplier depending on the outcome of ongoing reviews.

3. After the March incident, DBS Bank had convened a Special Board Committee to oversee a full review of the bank’s IT resiliency, to be performed by an independent external expert. MAS had then directed DBS Bank to conduct a comprehensive review, including an assessment of the adequacy of management oversight, staff competencies, operational processes, system resiliency, and architecture design for its digital banking services. Although the causes of the March and May incidents appear distinct from each other, MAS has now required the review to cover the May incident as well.

4. MAS has also required DBS Bank to take immediate steps to improve the resiliency and recoverability of its existing system, including enhanced monitoring, more comprehensive testing and additional system redundancies, in order to minimise disruption of its services to its customers.

5. Ms Ho Hern Shin, Deputy Managing Director (Financial Supervision), MAS, said, “DBS Bank has fallen short of MAS’ expectations for banks to deliver reliable services to their customers.  The repeated inconvenience caused to the public is unacceptable.  The additional capital requirement imposed at this time underscores the seriousness with which MAS treats this matter. DBS Bank must spare no effort in dealing with the underlying issues leading to these disruptions.”

A dog owner posted on Facebook appealing for information and witnesses after their dog was hit by a car along Geylang Lorong 31 but drove away from the scene.

COVID NOT A GLOBAL HEALTH EMERGENCY ANYMORE, PANDEMIC OFFICIALLY OVER – W.H.O

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that the Covid-19 pandemic is no longer considered a global health emergency and that the pandemic is finally over.

However, they added that it doesn’t mean the virus is not a threat.

The emergency committee of the WHO convened for the 15th time and advised a transition to the long term management of the pandemic based on the decline in hospitalisations and ICU admissions, the high levels of population immunity to the disease.

Snippets of WHO’s statement

The Committee members highlighted the decreasing trend in COVID-19  deaths, the decline in COVID-19 related hospitalizations and intensive care unit admissions, and the high levels of population immunity to SARS-CoV-2.

The Committee’s position has been evolving over the last several months. While acknowledging the remaining uncertainties posted by potential evolution of SARS-CoV-2, they advised that it is time to transition to long-term management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The WHO Director-General concurs with the advice offered by the Committee regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

He determines that COVID-19 is now an established and ongoing health issue which no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).

The Committee was informed that, globally, 13.3 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered. =

Currently, 89% of health workers and 82% of adults over 60 years have completed the primary series (the initial one or two doses recommended as per the vaccine schedule), although coverage in these priority groups varies in different regions.

The number of weekly reported deaths and hospitalizations continues to decrease, but the WHO Director-General expressed concern that surveillance reporting to WHO has declined significantly, that there continues to be inequitable access to life-saving interventions, and that pandemic fatigue continues to grow.

The Director-General announced the publication of the 2023-2025 COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan which is designed to guide countries in transitioning to long-term management of COVID-19.

25 Y.O DAUGHTER DEMANDS PARENTS TO BUY HER GAMES AND PLAYSTATION, THROWS TANTRUMS

0

Spoiled child taking advantage of parents

I have an acquaintance whose daughter, female (25), has graduated and is working a freelance job. She comes from a pretty well-to-do family that stays in a landed property.

In addition to still partly depending on her parents (which is understandable in SG since it takes time to be able to afford moving out and living independently), she still frequently asks for expensive “gifts” from her parents knowing that they are too soft to reject her.

She fancies herself a gamer, so she already has a fancy setup of PS4, multiple headsets, etc from her parents. But in 2022 she asked for the brand new PS5 (which at that time was very hard to find), for which her parents bought from overseas. The PS4 is now rendered useless and is collecting dust at their home.

After she landed her freelance job, she asked her parents for the latest iMac (2022), claiming that she needs it to do her work even though she already has a Macbook Pro. She subsequently then requested for the latest iPad Pro a month after receiving the iMac, for which she also received without rejection.

Recently she has been demanding and throwing frequent tantrums at her parents for a high end gaming PC (costs a few thousand dollars). Despite the fact that she already has a PS5 and PS4, she wants the PC to game and also gives the excuse that she can “use it for her work” (she typically gives out these fluff justifications while asking her parents for stuff). Once when my acquaintance refused her in public, she threw a tantrum and ran to the bathroom crying.

Her parents could technically afford all this, but they still find it very costly to sustain her lifestyle. My acquaintance has told her time and time again that “this is the last expensive gift, no more after this”, but she still persists to demand for items and proceeds to throw tantrums in light of rejection.

Is this kind of behaviour acceptable for a 25yr old? How would you all suggest my acquaintance advise his daughter?

22 Y.O MAN MARRIED HIS 48 Y.O SCHOOL TEACHER, THEY MET WHEN HE WAS 15 & SHE WAS 41

A 22-year-old man in Malaysia, Danial Ahmad Ali, got married to his 48-year-old wife, Jamilah Mohd, who was his Bahasa Melayu teacher when he was in secondary three, according to Harian Metro.

They first met back in 2016 when he was 15 years old and she was 41 years old, when the latter was assigned to Danial’s class to teach Bahasa Melayu.

He said that he didn’t expect to be attracted to his teacher and that their relationship at the time was strictly teacher-student and nothing else.

Jamilah taught his class for about a year and when he was in secondary 4, they only interacted with each other whenever they met in the school’s staff room.

When Danial was in secondary 5, Jamilah wished him a happy birthday and it was then that he started wanting to get to know her better.

Danial said that ever since then, they got close and he developed feelings for her and wanted to get close to his teacher.

He then confessed to Jamilah one day but she rejected him, saying that she was his teacher.

But Danial refused to give up and kept on calling and messaging Jamilah until she stopped responding to him, and Danial ended up going to her residential area without knowing her address, managing to find her house, which he attributed to “fate”.

He told her how he felt and would continuously show up at her home to show how “serious” he was.

He added that she continued rejecting him because she didn’t know how long it would last, and that she had only been focused on her work after divorcing her ex-husband in 2007.

Danial persisted with her efforts until Jamilah eventually accepted him, and she said that she can’t help it because God had appointed him as her soulmate.

They then agreed to get married in 2019 after getting the approval of their respective families but it was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic.

THAI GIRL TOLD ME TO GIVE UP EVERYTHING IN SG & STAY IN HER KAMPONG TO RAISE PIGS

0

I have been travelling around Southeast Asia for the past few months and recently, I ended up in Thailand. I decided to spend some time in a small village there and that’s when I met a Thai girl named Nong.

Nong was a beautiful, young girl who lived in a small kampong in the countryside. She is from a minority group in northern Chiang Mai and can speak both Thai and Mandarin.

Desperate

We quickly became friends and I soon found out that she was desperately looking for a husband.

She told me that her family was pushing her to get married and she wanted to find someone who would take her away from the village and give her a better life.

I was taken aback by her request. I had no intention of getting married, let alone to a Thai girl (communication issues). Although she can speak Mandarin, she only speaks very basic and I can’t speak Thai at all.

I tried to explain to her that my life was in Singapore and I had no plans to move anywhere else. Nong was persistent though and she begged me to stay in the village and marry her.

She told me to give up everything in Singapore and move to the kampong with me. She promised to help me raise pigs and look after the farm.

OMG raise pigs and grow corn!?

However, I knew deep down that it wasn’t the life I wanted. I wanted to stay in Singapore and build a career there. I wanted to make something of myself and I knew that staying in a rural village was not the way to do it.

I explained this to Nong and she seemed to understand. She said she still wanted to get married and find someone who would take her away from her family and start our own farm, but she accepted that it wasn’t going to be me. We said our goodbyes and I left the village feeling a little sad.

I will never forget my time in the village and my meeting with Nong. It was an experience that taught me a lot about life and what matters to people. I’m sure Nong will find the man of her dreams and I wish her all the best.

32 Y.O MAN ALLEGEDLY CALLED FOR HALIMAH YACOB TO BE “HANGED FROM LAMPPOST”, CHARGED

0

32-year-old Vickreman Harvey Chettiar, was charged on 5 May with harassment and mischief after allegedly posting online calling for the death of President Halimah Yacob, according to The Straits Times.

He had allegedly posted on Instagram on 30 April 2023 at about 7am from a HDB unit in Choa Chu Kang, saying in his pot that President Halimah should be hanged from a lamppost near the Parliament House.

At the time of the incident, Vickreman was already facing three charges for mischief and harassment and was out on a bail of $10,000.

As such, Deputy Public Prosecutor Shaun Lim requested for his bail to be revoked because he might have breached his bail conditions, citing his latest charge of harassment in relation to the threatening post against the President.

DPP Lim also requested that Vickreman be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) because his behaviour was escalating.

Vickreman’s lawyer, Joyce Khoo, said that she had no objection to her client being sent to IMH, and requestions for the prosecution to contact the IMH investigating officer to afford special care to Vickreman because he had a traumatic experience during his earlier remand there back in 2014.

A website “Justice4Harvey” had made the claims that Vickreman was allegedly raped at IMH in 2014 by another man.

The court accepted the prosecution’s request to remand Vickreman at IMH for a medical examination, and his case has been adjourned to 19 May.

If convicted of harassment and mischief, he faces a jail term of up to 1 year and a fine of up to $5,000.

Vickreman is also being charged with allegedly publishing the address of a man in an Instagram Story that he posted on 18 November 2021, accusing him of molestation while in remand at IMH back in 2014, and allegedly asking for him to be assaulted.

He is also being charged with allegedly calling for a terrorist act to be performed on a police officer in an Instagram Story post on 15 November 2021.

Vickreman is also facing a charge for allegedly flipping over a marble table at the Supreme Court with about $308 on 3 February 2020 at about 11.16 am, breaking it in the process.
