44 Y.O WOMAN TRYING TO MAKE FRIENDS BUT THEY ALL DISAPPEAR AFTER USING HER

0

Are friendships really superficial and there only for the good times?

F44 here. Have been trying to cultivate meaningful and real friendships where we can all be there for each other during good and bad times.

However I have found friends to be superficial and only there for the good times. Many times I tried to be kind and helpful, but once I was no longer of any use to them, these friends would stop contacting me.

Someone told me that I should make friends only on the surface so that I protect my heart. And recently a friend told me that people only socialise to have a good time.

Is this really true of friendships? I am beginning to think true friendships and caring friends are really not true…

Netizens’ comments

  1. True friendships are rare.
Not everyone is lucky enough to have a true friend that will stick by you through rough times.
As we get older it’s even harder to establish true friendships..
  2. There is experience and wisdom in what your friend said about keeping it at surface level only.
For a long time I’ve been looking for deep and lasting friendships. But most of the time, people come and go. Extremely rare are those that stick around with me. So many times I’ve been deeply hurt by abandonment. So to really protect my heart and emotions from further scarring, I keep reminding myself to be wise. Take small careful steps to whoever might also share the same beliefs as me where making lasting relationships count.
    53M here.
  3. Friendships are nurtured and it’s a two way street. That said, being really selective on who your tribe is super important. Have friends who will literally not think twice to take a day off and support.
  4. I still believe in friendships but I also believe life gets in the way. People usually prioritise their spouse and kids and family before friends and friends only meet up once in awhile. That’s quite ok for me. I feel usually they’re OK for hanging out and giving advice but I do have to solve most problems myself or with my SO. Friends don’t have time to be super involved with my life neither do I feel comfortable involving them so much. However if they do need help I will help them.
  5. yup. the older we get, the harder it is to make time for each other. multi-purpose ones are even rarer. i find that it helps to sort and think of my friends in the following categories so i dont have unrealistic expectations of them:
Cat 1) those whom i can confide in and trust they wont betray my secrets. vice versa. unfortunately, this group of ppl may not have time to meet up more than once or twice a year as they are all in different phases of life (some w lots of OT, some with young kids, some outstation etc)
Cat 2) makan/interest/fun group (specific interest, specific group
Cat 3) ppl i only chat shallow topics / unimportant matters with (normal classmates, CCA mates, workmates, neighbours etc who never got beyond their original label). as they are usually with us at school/work several few days a week, we will see them w/o even trying. this is the group we cant run away from, so might as well have a bit of fun doing/talking about less important stuff with them than waste Cat 1 ppl’s time
we all go through a period of time where most of our childhood friends were Cat 1+2+3 and then they stopped being able to be all 3. being able to accept this reality as early as possible saves a lot of headaches.

WOMAN MOVED FROM SME TO MNC, NO NEED COME WORK ON TIME & GOT 22 DAYS LEAVE STRAIGHT AWAY

0

What sort of ‘culture shock’ have you experienced since moving from SME to MNC company, and vice-versa?

Asking because I’ve been experiencing many ‘suaku’ moments since starting work at an international corporation. I’ve worked for 5 years at a few SMEs; only a few MNCs want to hire fresh grad diploma holders anyway.

I was jobless after the last SME did a layoff exercise (jokes on them, they had to replace my role with 5 workers – that’s a story for another time) but I quickly found employment at a new company.

Here is a list of what I was surprised by when I started working at an MNC:

  1. No clock-in or clock-out practices. Previous workplace demands clock-in/out even for lunch. edit: SME: 30-45min lunch. MNC: 1-hour lunch.
  2. You don’t need to come to work on time, but you can leave work as stated in the employee handbook. My previous workplaces will deduct a few cents and dollars even if it’s just a second late.
  3. Snacks. A lot of free snacks. The previous companies only had drinks vending machines, or they would demand $1 per Nescafe pod/capsule.
  4. No need to wait 3 months before taking AL. Also, no need to explain why you need to take AL (omg, I explained to my boss I need to take AL for private matters, and he said, “That’s private info, you can keep that to yourself”, so paiseh.)
  5. So many tech freebies. The HR said if we left the company, we could keep all the accessories and return the laptop. My previous workplace demanded everything be returned even though they were visibly worn out.
  6. Gym membership discounts, shopping discounts etc. if I show my staff pass.
  7. Allowance to play (book tickets, hotels etc) to encourage workers to take leave.
  8. 22 days of AL. All are available the moment I start work. SMEs will stagger them so workers will have to accumulate leaves, like 1-2 months for 2 days. I was surprised to see all 22 days available in my HR portal.

50 Y.O MAN WORKED SINCE HE WAS 18 BUT CPF ONLY GOT ABOUT $60K, “WHERE DID I GO WRONG”

0

Where did I go wrong?

I’m pushing 50, have poly diploma and no degree. I have two kids and live in a 4 room HDB flat that I bought in 2003. House is fully paid and the price was reasonable based on BTO in 2003. Nothing fancy and I was grateful to get a relatively low cost public housing.

Now I don’t really have much commitments. No second property or any other source of income except my day job which pays me around 5k per month. I’m generally very happy go lucky person and don’t really worry about the future but I’ve saved about 60-70% of my salary for the last 20 years.

However in the last few days, I’ve realised besides my own savings, my cpf has gone nowhere. I have just about north of 60k in OA. I’ve been working even since I was 18, and except for the HDB payment, I’ve never used my CPF for anything else.

So I’m wondering if I got shafted by the system and employers along the way 🙂 If I have had bigger dreams of owning another property, 60k is not even enough for me to pay for a EC downpayment.

Actually forget about EC lah, how am I going to fund my kids uni education using just OA. I’m not complaining but I’m puzzled by this phenomenon 🙂

Netizens’ comments

  1. I just wanted to say you are a freaking awesome husband and father. Good man ser.
    • (OP) Thanks for the kind words. But I think the real hero is my wife.
For the longest time she was the saver, I wasn’t very interested in money matters. I don’t know how she managed the finances (and with a small child) when I was barely making 2k in the 2000s. And she put this idea in my head about savings.
  2. wow how did u save 60-70% of your salary WHILE having 2 kids
    • (OP) We pool our salaries together every month but more importantly we are borderline misers. Barely spend on anything besides the kids. No vices, no holidays for the first 15 years of marriage except the occasional movie. My parents are self sufficient so I don’t have to take care of that.
The only big ticket item was kids private tuition which has eaten away my saving somewhat. Otherwise I’m good with the savings part.

WOMAN BOUGHT LUGGAGE FROM VALU$, WHEELS FELL OFF & HERE CRACK THERE CRACK

0

Facebnook user Wynn Li shared how she had purchased a cheap luggage from a Valu-dollar outlet in Singapore and used it during her vacation.

She said that not everyone can afford an expensive luggage, hence her purchase of the luggage from Valu-dollar.

However, upon her first time using it, her luggage had both of its wheels detached and its body cracked, with a few noticeable holes at the bottom and visible cracks on the main compartment.

Here is what she said

Posting this is not a complaint or want valu$ to do anything, airline compensated me another luggage already.

Not everyone can afford $200 to even $1000 luggage. So this post is an awareness to anyone thought valu$ luggage is a shop that sell value things cheap. Beware.

Do not buy luggage from valu$! It’s cheap so you get lemon, see this lemon! First usage! My weight was only 11kg. 25” expandable.

On the way taking mrt to airport one wheel cracked. After 1 flying, 2 wheels and body cracked. Flew back everything cracked! hilarious!

Netizens’ comments

  1. I’d nvr check’in to the cargo , this type of plastic luggage, it’s fancy only for hand carry…
  2. Gee, I googled and it seems the luggage is sold for below $50 and if it is damaged during flight, the airline will have to compensate you based on an assessment by an appointed claim adjustor, not based on receipt and it seems the claim can be up to $1K. Even if you get compensated with $100, it seems a better deal.
  3. Those bags they sell look great on the outside. But once you touch them you should know how filmsy they were .They are very cheap too . I think they were design for one trip use and throw.
  4. Some stuff at Valu$ aren’t worth buying..I have gotten a few crap products from them too..though by and large their products are really value for money.

CHEF’S COMPANY MADE $4.2M IN 1.5 YEARS, GIVES WORKERS $900 EACH & TAKES THEM SHOPPING

An entrepreneur chef in Malaysia, Khairul Aming, recently rewarded his staff members with a shopping trip as well as a hefty bonus as a form of gratitude.

His company, which produces the Sambal Nyet product, earned more than RM14 million (or SGD $4.2 million) over a period of 1.5 years, and he closed all his factories for a day to take his workers on a shopping trip, as well a giving them a huge bonus and a poolside buffet.

He said that he wanted to reward his employees for their hard work and contribution to the company and for helping the company do well.

Khairul shared a 2-minute video on Twitter where he was seen revealing the surprise to his staff members, saying that he had closed his factory for the day.

He later brought his staff members shopping at a nearby mall, with the workers smiling cheek to cheek as they picked out the clothes that they wanted with their co-workers.

Appreciative of Khairul’s generosity, they held up their purchase to the camera and smiled widely.

Following the shopping spree, Khairul brought his workers back to the warehouse and gave out envelopes that contained cash bonuses of up to RM3,000 (or SGD $905), according to Sin Chew Daily.

Some workers could be seen tearing up as they accepted the monetary gift from the boss.

When it was time for the workers to break their fast, Khairul then brought all of them to a poolside catered buffet with several dishes on display.

Khairul also hinted in his Twitter caption that he might be taking his employees on a vacation as well.

According to a report by The Straits Times, Khairul had previously organised a 2-day staff retreat back in October 2022 for his staff members, involving booking 17 chalets at a Malaysian resort.

MAN SAYS GEYLANG BAZAAR TABLES SHOULD BE RESERVED FOR THOSE BREAKING FAST, GETS FLAMED

0

Facebook user Harry Helmi posted a photo of what appears to be a woman eating at a table at the Geylang Serai Bazar, and said that the tables should be reserved for those who are fasting to break fast from 6.30pm.

However, he received an enormous amount of backlash from netizens who commented on his post.

Here is what he said (SIC)

to all non muslim, its ok for you to consumed your food at the tables n chairs provided, but its also best if you can let us muslim to sit and have our break fast once you have finished eating rather then still sitting n chit chat.

To the organiser i have a suggestions, why dont you make a BIG poster to informed that by 630pm all tables n chair only for Muslim to breaking fast. Sorry for my broken English as passed sec 3 only kbye…

Netizens’ comments

  1. Sounds like my colleague who insisted customers should wait for him to break fast first before he can start serving drinks. Super entitled mentality
  2. When I wanted to break my fast at bazaar geylang, there wasn’t any available seats. It didn’t matter to me that I saw a non-muslim couple was still eating and chatting away. I just approached them and asked if we could stand and share the table. They nicely agreed. Just open your mouth and ask anyone there nicely if you could share the small space to place your food. Its bazaar geylang, expect that there will be such constraints.
  3. breaking fast outside definitely expected to experience the crowd therefore if you not prepare then buy and break fast at your own home please. not only you wants to feel the vibe and atmosphere, other races too wants to feel that once a year experience. thanks.
  4. Simple as it is, if you plan to break fast at the bazaar, come earlier la bro. “Choped” a table or 2 for your big family, unless you’re looking for nice fine dining, i suggest you should go book a restaurant. Let’s respect one another regardless of race or religion. Salam Ramadhan
  5. On behalf of the muslim, all non muslim are welcome to seat at any seat and at anytime comforts you. Lets share the love during this time of ramadhan
  6. Best is to just break fast at home. Don’t be self entitled. It’s a public space and anyone has the right to just sit and dine.

WOMAN WHO WAS ATTACKED BY MAN @ CLARKE QUAY, SAYS HE WENT BACK TO PARTY AFTER BEING BAILED

0

A Singaporean woman who was allegedly viciously attacked by a man who invited her to party with him at Zouk, has shared a few updates yesterday and today, on the incident that left her with permanent injuries.

Here is what she said

Before everything, I would just like to say this:0

I don’t believe in bashing people online, I’ve always given people the benefit of a doubt. My parents taught me to be kind, to be loving, to be giving. But when someone shows you who they really are, you have to believe it.

I would like to thank the people who have been on my side and stayed true to me. I am grateful for the police and my surgeons for their patience towards me. I understand that news outlets don’t always post the full story and that people have their own points of view which is fine. I didn’t see the need to come out and say this, but I’ve been hearing a lot of false claims and rumours; stories that have been twisted to fit another person’s narrative. I don’t want that. So here’s what I have to say from my point of view.

From here. you can decide for yourself who you want to believe and what’s really the truth.

SJ and I were party friends. I have a habit of always buying bottles to share at any table I was at as a sign of courtesy. I don’t like taking handouts and was taught to always be generous for I’ve been given so much. So when SJ mentioned that he had no money, I offered him to drink from my share as I felt that it wasn’t really a big of a deal.

That night of the incident, SJ and I were at Zouk. As usual, we were having fun, just drinking with our friends. The first red flag happened when he snatched the bill from the service staff (after I had paid), forging my signature pretending that he had bought the bottles that I had paid for. Thankfully the staff were discerning enough to take the bill away from him and hand it over to me, mentioning that “only the cardholders are allowed to sign the bill”. After that incident, I brushed it off as I felt that it was a small thing and continued to party with SJ drinking from my bottles which was fine.

After a while, we left zouk. I didn’t know where my friends were as they were running around the club which was normal. Usually after clubbing, SJ would drop me off at Wallich Residences lobby where I would call for a cab. I did this often as I wanted to beat the crowd at zouk. So on the day of the incident, I thought it was no different and walked towards his car together with him at the zouk carpark.

I admit I was quite drunk at that point in time and whilst we were walking to the carpark, SJ and I bumped into a couple of his friends. While he was talking to them, I went to the passenger’s seat and took a rest.

Shortly after, SJ came to the driver’s seat and told me to get out of the car. He mentioned that I could call a grab instead and wanted his friends to sit in his car. I was confused as I was drunk and felt that the least he could do was to drop me off at Wallich Residences to call a grab. So I told him with my eyes closed “Your friends are guys and they can walk safely. I’m a girl and I’m quite drunk. Could you just drop me off further away from the crowd?”

The next thing I knew, the car door at the passenger’s side opened and I was being dragged out of the car. SJ had pulled me out of the car by dragging me via my hair and threw me on the ground. I was in shock and immediately tried to sober up. While struggling to get up, I asked him, “What are you doing?” and he only responded with anger. He whacked me and my head hit towards the ground once again.

I struggled to get up once again but SJ choked and slammed me on the ground, hitting my head harder this time. He used his bodyweight to lock my legs in place so I couldn’t move. I couldn’t scream, he was strangling me so hard I could barely breathe. I knew there and then that he had no intention of letting me go and I could feel I was about to pass out soon as I could hear ringing in my ears.

And all this time, his friends just stood by and watched as everything unfolded.

I struggled as hard as I could and as an act of defence, I scratched him, hoping that he would let me go. All this time, he continued to hit me, with blow after blow towards my head.

I think my scratches finally caused him a bit of pain and he let go of me. He walked back towards his car but I was not going to let him go, not after what he did to me. So to stop him from leaving, I sat on his car’s bonnet and tried to call 999. I was in pain and disorientated and it was taking quite some time.

After what seemed like forever, I finally managed to dial 999. When SJ realised this, he stepped hard on his accelerator, knowing full well that I was on the bonnet of his car. The speed caused me to fly off his bonnet and I landed on the left side of my body.

He sped off after.

Many people had come to my aide after they saw me fly off the bonnet. I went to the hospital and called the police. I had sustained full body injuries, with a deep laceration that hit my muscle at my left temple and a permanent nerve injury on my left brow. I can never lift up my left eyebrow ever again. I also have multiple fractured left ribcages that are also displaced.

After this traumatic incident, I found out that SJ was arrested and released after paying his bail. I am thankful that the police are continuously working on this case but it is evident that he is not remorseful.

He went on instagram saying that I scratched him for no reason and his friends have been twisting the story to fit his narrative. How can someone so vile and unrepentant be allowed to roam freely while I suffer in fear everyday?

After this incident, I’m suffering from PTSD and have trouble leaving my house even to buy food. I only leave when I have to visit the hospital or run crucial errands. My boyfriend works very hard so when I’m alone at home, I can’t sleep until I pass out from exhaustion. Even then I would get nightmares and wake up with a panic attack.

Everyday, people come up to me and tell me that he’s slandering me. Telling them that I was salty because I liked him and he didn’t reciprocate. I’m in a happy relationship, why would I like you? Why did you take my kindness for granted?

People say that I’m in this for the money, SJ has not given me any monetary gain. I have worked hard to be where I am today, I stopped taking allowance from my parents since I was 14. It’s so sad that some members of the public are calling me a gold digger. What did I gain out of my kindness to SJ but brutal assaults?

My next few screenshots can show you what kind of person SJ really is. You can discern for yourself. In hindsight, I should have seen his many red flags but I was naive and this was the last thing I would expect out of him.

AH LONG SETS HDB RESIDENT’S UNIT ON FIRE, SPLASH PAINT & WRITE “O$P$” OUTSIDE

Instagram page @singapore_incidents posted a video yesterday (9 April) showing a housing unit at an undisclosed location engulfed in flames after allegedly being set on fire by loanshark(s).

Not much information about the incident or location was revealed by the netizen who posted the video.

The affected unit could be seen in the video with red paints splashed on the walls outside the home, with the front door and metal grilles being engulfed in flames.

A graffiti that appears to be a message to the debtor could be seen scrawled on the walls beside the burning unit, and although the words are unintelligible, the characters “O$P$” could be clearly seen written at the top of the message.

Netizens’ comments

  1. My goodness, ah long so bold these days! So scary.
  2. I’m wondering are those loan Sharks challenging Singapore Police Forces.
  3. Ah Long do this also no use, HDB fire rated door last for 30mins de, then the fire also not big enough to burn down the door. Lol
  4. Maybe stop videoing and faster call 995???
  5. Arson can be a justification for homicide if someone else died from the fire so Arson can be punishable by death sentence even if it is done indirectly to whomever is targeted for that damages to the apartment.
  6. In first place, why borrow from loan shark?

Potential penalties

Under the Moneylenders Act 2008:

  1. The offence of carrying on or assisting in a business of unlicensed moneylending carries an imprisonment term of up to four years, a fine between $30,000 and $300,000, and caning of up to six strokes.
  2. The offence of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment carries an imprisonment term of up to five years, a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, and caning between three and six strokes.
  3. The offence of providing false contact information to obtain loans from unlicensed moneylenders carries an imprisonment for a term of up to 12 months.

The Police will continue to take tough enforcement action against those involved in the unlicensed moneylending business, regardless of their roles, and ensure that they face the full brunt of the law. This includes taking action against those who open or give away their bank accounts to aid unlicensed moneylenders.

Unlicensed moneylenders are increasingly using text messaging or online platforms to send unsolicited loan advertisements. Members of the public are reminded not to reply or respond to such advertisements and to report these messages as spam.

Members of the public are also advised to stay away from unlicensed moneylenders and not to work with or assist them in any way. Members of the public can call the Police at ‘999’ or the X-Ah Long hotline at 1800-924-5664 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in unlicensed moneylending activities.

CRASH BETWEEN LORRY & 3 CARS @ CTE, 3 PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR DRINK DRIVING

0

An accident involving 3 cars and a lorry took place along the Central Expressway (CTE) on Sunday (9 April) morning, resulting in 3 people being arrested for suspected drink driving and one person being sent to the hospital.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that they were alerted on 9 April at about 7.15 am to the accident that took place along the CTE heading towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE) after the Jalan Bahagia exit.

The police said that two men aged 27 and 47, along with another 29-year-old woman, were arrested for suspected drink driving.

The driver of the lorry involved in the accident, a 33-year-old man, was conveyed to the hospital conscious, with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) saying that he was brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

TikTok user @ataho31016 posted a video of the aftermath of the accident, showing a lorry lying on its side as the entire roads were blocked off.

The accident resulted in two lanes being cordoned off with the heavy traffic jam continuing even after 10 am, as vehicles at the back of the jam honked in frustration.

Workers could be seen trying to clear the roads of the stricken vehicles as the traffic waited impatiently.

Netizens’ comments

  1. There was a green car in front being towed. Police were searching the car. Seems like green car caused the accident instead of lorry
  2. OMG…. Those inside taxi under meter heart beats as the meter jumps. Hope can cross soon.
  3. Imagine u rent bluesg den sit down there jam $0.42 /min sure cry
  4. What happenen to the opposite lanes? Jam for what?

  6. This happened today at 7.15am while I was asleep, the impact was so loud it woke me up, hope no casualties hurt.
  7. only yesterday I saw 2 tipper truck collide at PIE. why so many truck accidents
  8. Look carefully. People commenting divert traffic and so forth. This type of accidents may involve spillage of fuel on the road. Need to flush it.

GRABFOOD RIDER CAN’T FIND UNIT, CUSTOMER UNREACHABLE SO LEFT FOOD @ STAIRCASE

0

A Grabfood customer shared that their food delivery order was left at the staircase after the rider claimed that he can’t find their unit.

The customer said that he was beside his phone all along and received no calls from anyone, but the rider claimed to have called but they were unreachable.

The netizen added that even if he was really unreachable, would he (the rider) expect him (the customer) to check his phone?

Here is what the customer said

New practice from Grab. The grab rider claimed he cant find my unit and thus he left it at the staircase.

He claimed to have called me and can’t reach me. I was all along beside my phone ane there was no call from anyone or whatsoever.

If indeed like what he said I’m really unreachable, then would he expect I will check my phone? If not is the food going to be sitting there until Christmas?

Netizens’ comments

  1. should be thankful the rider didnt throw the food away actually, grab policy for rider is to call 3 times and wait 5 mins for reply. if dh dispose of the food
  2. Customer’s fault for not providing the unit number properly and being uncontactable. At least the rider apologised and tried to call.
  3. Customer fault for not providing unit in the first place.
  4. lol u try working the jobs where all the customers are uncontactable + incomplete address lmao
  5. In future always indicate ur unit number in case rider cant reach u . Luckily he never dispose the food thats the best he can do actually
  6. What you want? He try to continue to contact you until Christmas? Then feed you?
  7. some customer uh really siao one, say update here and there, check their phone is really never put complete address
  8. he suppose to use crystal ball find your unit?? Never put unit also complain.
