I have been visiting discos in Thailand for the past four years. I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people, and I have also had to deal with some rather unpleasant experiences.
One of the more unpleasant experiences I have had is dealing with hostesses who work in discos that say “My mother is sick, I need money.”
I understand that, in some cases, this may actually be true. Many people in Thailand are struggling financially, and it is possible that the mother of a hostess may be in need of help. However, when I hear that phrase, I feel like I am being taken advantage of.
The first time I heard this phrase, I was taken aback. I was not expecting to hear such a plea for money and I was not sure how to respond. I wanted to help, but I was also aware that this was probably a scam.
I ended up giving the hostess a small amount of money, but I was left feeling uneasy.
Since then, I have heard this phrase multiple times in different discos. The phrase always seems to come up when the hostess is trying to get me to buy her a drink or to give her money. I know that this is a common practice in some discos, but it still bothers me.
At this point, I am simply sick and tired of hearing the same phrase over and over again. It is not only dishonest, but it is also disrespectful. It implies that I am gullible and that I will give money even if the person asking for it is not in need.
I understand that some people may be genuinely in need of help, but I also believe that if someone is truly in need, they should find a more respectable way of asking for help.
I am not a charity and I am not a bank. It is not my job to take care of others’ financial needs.
I understand that the hostesses in these discos are simply trying to make a living, but I wish they would find a more honest way of doing so. I do not mind giving money to people who are truly in need, but I do not appreciate being taken advantage of.
So, in conclusion, I am sick of hearing the phrase “My mother is sick, I need money” in discos. It is dishonest and disrespectful and it implies that I am gullible. I understand that some people may be genuinely in need of help, but I believe that there are better ways of asking for help.
I’ve heard it said many times: “You have to lie to succeed in your job interviews.” I never really put much thought into this saying until my own job search, when I found myself in a situation where I felt I had to be dishonest to get the job.
At first, I was hesitant to even consider the idea. After all, I pride myself on being honest, and the thought of lying to land a job felt wrong to me. But the competition for the job was fierce, and the other candidates had far more experience than I. I felt like I was out of options, and that I had to resort to less-than-honorable means to get the job.
So I started to think more seriously about the idea of lying to succeed. I decided to do some research to see if there was any truth to this saying.
I discovered that, unfortunately, lying to get a job is more common than I thought. According to a survey conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management, almost half of employers have caught applicants lying on their resumes, and more than a third of employers have caught applicants lying during the interview.
The survey also showed that the most common things applicants lie about are their skill sets, educational background, and work experience. And while it may be tempting to embellish your qualifications to get the job, the truth is that it’s not a good idea.
Lying on your resume or in your job interview can lead to serious consequences. If you’re caught lying, you could find yourself in hot water with the company, or worse, you could be sued. In addition, lying can prevent you from getting the job, since employers are likely to think twice before hiring someone who has lied.
So is there any truth to the saying “lie to succeed”? While it may be tempting to think that lying can help you get the job, it can actually have the opposite effect. Instead of lying, the best way to stand out in a job interview is to be honest about your qualifications and to demonstrate your knowledge and skills with examples from your past experiences.
If you’re honest and prepared, you’ll be more likely to land the job than if you’re dishonest. Lying can only get you so far, and it could ultimately backfire.
At the end of the day, the old adage “lie to succeed” is nothing more than a myth. The truth is that honesty is always the best policy in a job interview. Lying will only hurt your chances of getting the job, and it could even lead to legal action.
If you want to stand out in a job interview, be honest and prepared. Show the employer why you’re the best candidate for the job, and you’ll be much more likely to land it than if you resort to lying.
I am at least 35 yo and expecting the HDB BTO flat next year. My partner wish to breakup and cancel the HDB BTO flat.
I hope to retain the flat. How should I go about doing it, any advice?
Here are what netizens think
Assuming its a 3/4/5 room bto, even if you’re 35, you need a partner to replace to keep it. Your partner also has to agree to it. Singles are currently only eligible for 2 room flexi bto.
Do not rush into finding a new partner to keep the BTO. You can always buy a flat anytime later. But any wrong partner can remain with you for decades. Choose wisely.
Same situation as my cousin. He had to give it up and get banned from getting bto for a year. Try finding someone to replace within a year and see can a not.
Future Tinder bio: “My ex and I are due to get our HDB BTO next year, but we broke up and I need someone to take her place or else I’ll lose my opportunity to get this amazing unit. Excellent location. Good transport links. Within walking distance to MRT, shopping mall and schools. Near park. For pics of the neighbourhood and floorplan, please DM me.”
Guy I work with comes in to work around 10 or 11, sleeps at his desk, and gets paid overtime
I work for a small equipment manufacturer. This guy is the machine shop foreman and I work as an engineer. I come in at 7-7:30 am Monday to Friday and leave around 3:30-4 pm. I am salaried.
He will come in around 10 or 11 and then, from what I’ve heard, will leave around the time everyone else does, ie 4:30-5:30 pm.
On top of this, he comes in every day and almost immediately starts to sleep and snore loudly. The other two guys in the room are newer and I’m sure they are annoyed about it.
I’ve gotten used to it over the past 3 or 4 years. I keep to myself and wonder why no one says anything about his attendance or sleeping all day.
I’ve been told by the girl who does the payroll that she can’t stand seeing him come in late everyday and sleep and still get paid overtime.
He will say things like, he came in on Saturday and Sunday. He might well have been in on those days but come on, he was sleeping and/or there for maybe a few hours.
I guess the point of this post was to vent about my current work situation. I just hate to be paid less than someone who gets to freely sleep all day without consequence and they get paid extra on top of it.
I need to move on and find a better place. I’m currently stuck waiting for my girlfriend to get a job (less than a year) and maybe I can find something worth while.
Sorry for the long rant. I feel like I’ll be making right around this salary for the rest of my life the way things are going.
My salary might go up a thousand or two a year but the inflation rate keeps my salary stagnant. I’ll never retire. I’ll never enjoy life the way it should be lived.
I fell asleep while screwing around with my boyfriend and I kind of feel bad about it. This happened to me a couple days ago and I feel embarrassed.
I fell asleep while banging my bf. I must say that I had very little sleep during the previous nights. My boyfriend said that he was on top of me( everything was normal).
Soon after, he noticed that I had fallen asleep ( he knows exactly I look when I sleep), of course, he directly stopped. I know it’s true because, I only remember when we started.
I felt very bad and guilty as well. This is the first time something like this happened. Thankfully, my bf wasn’t upset or vexed.
He was pretty amused and told me, he was glad that he helped me getting some sleep. But I’m afraid he tried to play it cool and that I bruised his ego.
I guess I was too tired. However, I can’t help but feel embarrassed and bad about it.
Netizens’ comments
I’m not sure if this would bruise my ego. My take is you are so comfortable when you get banged by him you can fall asleep. That means you feel very safe with him which is really cute.
(OP) Thanks for your response. That reassures me. I don’t know, I was afraid he would feel like it was because he was bad, boring, something like that. I was actually very tired.
I did this once with my ex. I was working nights and had been up over 24 hours. I just played it off like I was worried about work. I feel like if you are really tired then something like this can happen pretty easy
(OP) Actually that was the first time for me, but I’m glad I’m not the only one. I was very busy and had very few hours of sleep, so I guess I just couldn’t help it.
Singapore is a city-state that has a rich cultural and religious heritage. One aspect of this heritage is the belief in spirits, which are thought to exist in many forms and play an important role in the lives of many Singaporeans. There are many different ways to contact spirits in Singapore, ranging from traditional practices to modern methods.
“Tangki Mediums”
Taoism is one of the major religions in Singapore, and it has a long tradition of using rituals to communicate with spirits. Taoist priests often perform ceremonies to appease spirits, such as the annual Hungry Ghost Festival, which is believed to be a time when the spirits of the dead are able to visit the living. During this festival, people offer food and drink to the spirits, and they also burn incense and paper offerings to appease them.
Psychic Mediumship
Psychic mediumship is another traditional way of contacting spirits in Singapore. A psychic medium is a person who is believed to have the ability to communicate with spirits, and they may use a variety of techniques to do so, including trance states, automatic writing, and channeling. Psychic mediums are often consulted for guidance or to ask for help from deceased loved ones.
Ouija boards
Ouija boards are a modern tool for contacting spirits that have gained popularity in recent years. They consist of a flat board with letters, numbers, and other symbols, and a small pointer called a planchette. Participants place their fingers on the planchette and ask questions, and the planchette moves to spell out answers from the spirit world.
While Ouija boards can be a fun way to explore the paranormal, they can also be dangerous if used improperly. Some people believe that using a Ouija board can invite malevolent spirits into their lives, so it is important to approach this method with caution.
EVP sessions
Electronic voice phenomena (EVP) sessions are a method of contacting spirits that uses technology to record and analyze sounds that are believed to be paranormal in nature. Participants use digital voice recorders or other audio equipment to capture sounds in a room, and then analyze the recordings for any unusual or unexplained sounds.
While EVP sessions can be a fascinating way to explore the paranormal, they can also be easily influenced by environmental factors such as wind or background noise. It is important to be skeptical of any recordings that are claimed to be evidence of spirit communication.
Séances
A séance is a group gathering in which people attempt to communicate with spirits through a medium or other spiritualist practitioner. Participants typically sit in a circle and focus their energy on the medium, who may enter into a trance state and attempt to contact spirits on their behalf.
Like Ouija boards, séances can be dangerous if not conducted properly. Participants may unwittingly invite negative or malevolent spirits into their lives, and there is always the risk of psychological harm from engaging in such practices.
Spirit photography
Spirit photography is a method of capturing images of spirits on camera. This can be done through traditional film photography, as well as digital photography and video. Some people believe that spirits can be captured on camera as orbs, streaks of light, or even full-bodied apparitions.
While there have been many examples of alleged spirit photography over the years, skeptics argue that most of these images can be explained by natural phenomena such as lens flare, dust, or other photographic artifacts.
Ghost hunting
Ghost hunting is a popular hobby in Singapore, with many people taking to abandoned buildings, cemeteries, and other allegedly haunted locations in search of paranormal activity. Ghost hunters may use a variety of tools and techniques to capture evidence of ghosts and other spirits, including thermometers, EMF meters, and digital voice recorders.
While ghost hunting can be a thrilling experience, it is important to remember that trespassing and vandalism are illegal, and many supposedly haunted locations are dangerous or off-limits to the public. It is also important to approach any evidence collected during a ghost hunt with skepticism, as many supposed paranormal occurrences can be easily explained by natural causes.
Spiritual healers
Spiritual healers are practitioners who use their connection to the spirit world to heal physical, emotional, and spiritual ailments. They may use a variety of techniques, including prayer, meditation, and energy healing, to help their clients find relief from their symptoms.
While spiritual healing can be a powerful tool for some people, it is important to approach any practitioner with caution. There are many unscrupulous individuals who claim to have supernatural powers, and it is important to do your research and seek out reputable practitioners before engaging in any form of spiritual healing.
There are many different ways to contact spirits in Singapore, from traditional Taoist rituals to modern ghost hunting techniques. While some of these methods can be fun and exciting, it is important to approach them with caution and skepticism, and to always prioritize safety and respect for the spirit world.
One of the women, a 19-year-old who was arrested with the group, was found injured and conveyed to the hospital conscious.
She was with a 16-year-old male teenager and another 23-year-old woman, who were both arrested for suspected drug offences; along with 2 other arrested men aged 18 and 22.
The Singapore Police Force said that they received a call for help on 27 March at about 11.50 am, with witnesses saying that they saw police officers and forensics personnel at the Rest Bugis Hotel in the afternoon, located at 8 Jalan Kubor.
A witness working nearby, 42-year-old Ms Allen Tong who works as a manager of a cafe that is opposite the hotel, told The Straits Times that she arrived at her cafe in the afternoon, and she saw a lot of police in the vicinity.
She added that she later saw the police officers escorting a person sporting blonde hair out of the hotel with handcuffs on their wrists.
Another witness who works nearby as an executive chef for several restaurants in the area, 39-year-old Mr Giorgio Cetkovic, said that he saw the police officers donning gloves and searching the back alleys of the area, at Jalan Kubor.
He said that the workers from the different eateries nearby had gone out to see what was happening but they didn’t know what was going on.
Cetkovic added that the police officers appeared to be looking for something in the back alleys, and also trying to retrieve CCTV security footage.
The police officers later found two weapons believed to be sharp objects in the area.
Another witness who works at a hostel near the scene said that he was approached by the police officers with a list of IC numbers and names and asking if any of the persons on that list had been staying at his hostel, but according to the hostel’s records, none of them had stayed there.
According to ST, one of the arrested persons was an 18-year-old Indonesian man, with the rest of the arrested suspects being Singaporeans.
Police investigations are currently ongoing, and persons found guilty of causing hurt with a weapon face a jail term of up to 7 years, a fine and caning.
it’s not that people don’t want kids, it’s so hard to afford.
My Bto has been delayed from last year September till this year (April to June). Recently, we were told that it will be June end or July and this delay has caused so much problems.
My wife and I have been renting a room for the last two years. She is currently pregnant and we had hope the house will be in time for her to do confinement. But nope, H D B is not able to confirm the date nor provide any help.
My inlaws and parents have no spare rooms. We are now looking at a confinement center after birth that cost anywhere between 16-20k for 28 days…
We are also in the midst of getting an ID for our 4 room. Some IDs have told us straight that 50k is too little. That’s excluding furniture and appliances lol…
We finally found one within the 50k mark and are trying to get affordable but quality appliances but not going to be cheap.
Next we are going to queue for infant care at my workplace because my parents are too old and coe is higher than my annual income. It will cost around 1.6k a month excluding diapers and milkpower etc. We still have to buy insurance etc etc.
That’s not counting the monthly allowance we give our parents, some of their groceries and utilities.
Im literally packing food to work everyday since last January. I don’t know where else I can save money from and the share market wiped a significant chunk of my savings. Sigh.
Rant over. Sucking it up and going to work tomorrow. Stay strong fellow Singaporeans. Life hard.

It is tough for any class but the rich, wages have not kept pace at all with the situation.
I lost my job last when my wife was in 2nd month of pregnancy with twins. Started in July and only found a job in March, close to 9 months.
Exhausted almost all savings, never sought any help, was stubborn on that.
The main expenses are going to be Diapers Milk powder
Luckily the kids were not fussy about the brand of milk so I tried the expensive one to the Malaysian version than settled on S26 as a good compromise.
Diapers just try variety no need to over stock as your baby will grow very quickly.
Essential is a hot water filter dispensing machine, u don’t want to muck around at night trying to boil water etc.
I was offered a job on the spot recently without actually looking for another job, and after discussing with my now new employer about my credentials and what I could provide them, they offered me nearly double the yearly income as what I was previously getting paid. So of course I took the offer.
Put in my 2 weeks trying to be professional. Old boss asked where I was going and I made the mistake of telling him.
So what’s he do? He calls them to complain about them poaching me from his company. it’s a company in a totally different field of work.
So rather than try to match my offer to keep me, he tried to ruin my chances of moving on to something better by calling and complaining that they are putting his company in a bad position with my leaving.

Clearly you made the right call. Old boss seems equal parts petty and stupid. Unless old boss is a client of new boss (and a major one), new boss either won’t care or might even be impressed that he obviously picked someone valuable. Are you still in your 2-week notice period? If you are, and your old boss is still giving you crap, bear in mind you don’t legally have to stay. Giving notice is a courtesy, and courtesy is something one extends to good people.
Your boss sounds like a whiny little girl. Glad you’re getting out of there and to somewhere that pays you right.
This is great for you. Old Boss just told your new employer that you’re invaluable and your loss is causing him stress.
I had that happen to me ages ago, in relatively close circumstances to yours. My then-new boss won my loyalty by checking in with legal, who immediately laughed about it and told me to ignore the noise. I don’t like talking about people like they’re things but I think it makes my point better: If your new place is worth sticking around, they’re not gonna throw away a new investment, they’ll have your back.
Sounds like it’s time to tell the rest of the employees of the compensation and perks at the new place.
if that were me the two weeks would have ended the second i found out he called my new employer. no reason for me to act like a professional when old boss is acting like an a-hole
After only a month, I deeply regret quitting my job and I’m embarrassed
As the title suggests. I quit my job a month ago because I gave in to a very stupid reason for putting in my two weeks. I won’t get into that reason but I left with zero jobs lined up and severely regret it.
I haven’t slept well, I’ve been over eating, and generally doing nothing besides putting in applications and having anxiety over the regret.
I loved my job, I loved the people I worked with, and this whole decision was idiotic of me.
It’s too soon to call my job back but either way I feel like I am going to look so dumb if they let me back on after only a month of being gone.
People have been gone for that amount of time before at my work but it was never because of resigning, it was always due to emergencies.
I know everyone, at the end of the day, would appreciate me being back over me being gone because I was dependable enough but I just cannot shake the shame over how soon it is.
If I wanted to come back so soon I should’ve just taken a vacation instead of wiping all my credentials.
I’m not the only person in the universe who’s left a job just to call back for a potential re-hire but I have so much general embarrassment just as a person that I feel like my coworkers will hate me over the fact that I literally shouldn’t have quit if I was going to just come back after a month.
It’s been the longest month of my life and I’m not a person who should be unemployed at all.
I’m going to bite my shame by the 15th of April and call to see if they’ll hire me again. I’ve already decided on that but I cannot believe I did this to myself at all.
There’s 8 billion people on this planet and I keep reminding myself I’m not the only one who’s pulled this but I still feel alone.

When I was younger I once just stopped going to work. Didn’t tell anyone why, I didn’t even call to quit. I just stopped going. I really liked the job too, and I didn’t then see my actions for the irrational mess they were. The embarrassment you feel now might be nothing compared to the eventually self loathing you develop towards yourself for things like this. You made a mistake and you know the why of it all, forgive yourself for being human and use every mistake as a learning experience. Knowing what not to do is just as important as what to do.
(OP) You’re right. That’s why I’m just going to be embarrassed and swallow my pride regardless once a little more time passes I don’t want to end up in the self loathing portion of this when I can just make the call.
