The Workers’ Party said in a Facebook post on 22 June that the government’s $1.5 billion support package to help Singaporeans cushion the impact of inflation is a “step in the right direction”, but they also added that they do not support the increase in GST.
They said that they “note the $1.5 billion support package which provides some short-term relief to households, but this was also funded from better than expected fiscal outcomes.
The party added that they do not support a GST hike, but they agree that the government has to expect global inflation to broaden other areas and even to pick up further.
The WP said that “inflation continues to rise and is at a decade high, and Singaproeans are bearing the brunt of it.”
They reiterated their stance and said that they will continue to argue against the proposed GST increase in parliament, as well as for alternative forms of revenue generation such as wealth taxes or raising the reserves contribution ceiling.
“On a bright morning of Wednesday around 10:30 am, I was planning to read some papers when my stomach started growling uncontrollably…
I thought to myself, what have I eaten wrong yesterday???? can’t think of any but this bowel movement had gotten worse.
I got up and ran to the toilet, burst open the door, only to find out the aunty is still cleaning our toilet cubicles. (I’m forever grateful for them for keeping our area clean and sparkly btw.)
I smiled to her then hurriedly close the door. Then eyed the handicap toilet to see whether it is vacant but unfortunately not.
I was like nevermind. Got lots of other toilets. Then, went down to another female level. Tapped the key fob but it went beep beep beep…. it’s not workinggggg.
I found out for the first time that your key fob works only for your own level toilet. Their handicap toilet was also occupied.. (this doesn’t require key fob btw) and I was sweating profusely by then… then ran up to the level above mine.
I noticed that it was a male level but was so relieved to find out that their handicap toilet beside is still available. I quickly went in and released my burdens…. wasn’t thinking of anything and was quite content as the deed came to an end.
Washed my hands and came out just to see the cleaning uncle and he was like ‘ya know this is a male toilet’.
Then I told him my level still cleaning in progress and this is the handicap toilet but he insisted on telling me that the handicap toilet is a male toilet TT.
I didn’t know handicap toilets not unisex. Now I felt guilty for using it……
Maybe next time, in my own bed if I cannot hold anymore.”
The Singapore Police Force said on 22 June the woman who was killed in an accident on 20 June at Ang Mo Kio, was hit by several vehicles which included a Transcab taxi and a Tower Transit bus.
A 53-year-old male bus driver was arrested for careless driving causing death.
The accident was initially described as involving a taxi and a pedestrian but investigations have since revealed that in fact, multiple vehicles were involved in the accident.
However, only the Transcab taxi driver remained at the site of the accident despite there being several vehicles involved.
The other drivers were tracked down by investigators, with the bus driver being arrested at another location.
Tower Transit said that the bus captain involved has been suspended, and they have reached out to the deceased’s family to offer their apology and condolences, and to provide assistance.
A 67-year-old male taxi driver and another 58-year-old private car driver are assisting the police with their investigations.
Shin Min Daily News reported on 21 June that the woman was dragged on the road after being hit, with a pool of blood being seen about 20 metres away from the police tent covering her dead body.
The police said that they have yet to establish which vehicle hit the woman first.
I find this funny and frustrating at the same time.
I have a good friend who is married for 1 year now. She just turned 30 so is thinking about having kids. Instead of asking her husband, she is asking me if she should have kids…What has it got to do with me!?
She explained that I might be more unbiased in my opinions and I can just be honest with her. I played taichi a few times but it still came back. So I decided to be brutally honest with her, since she is not in very good terms with her husband and she had mentioned a few times she doesn’t like kids (obviously annoyed when they cry or scream), she shouldn’t have one.
I have asked her many times why she wanted kids and her answer is because she wants. Full stop. I feel she doesn’t know why she wanted kids but feel she should because its ‘packaged’ in when she get married. She and her husband are definitely not ready for kids, they don’t communicate well, always quarrel and she had packed and left home countless times.
The funny thing is, she got annoyed that I wasn’t supportive of her… Wth, make your own decision lah. The responsibility lands on you, not me leh. And I played Taichi so many times is because I want to avoid telling you my honest thoughts, and you proved I was right about it.

Sounds like somebody who wants to blame you when things eventually go wrong.
A 43-year-old foreign worker, Mr Zakir Hossain Khokan, left Singapore after the expiry of his work permit and it was not renewed.
He alleged in a Facebook post that his former employer told him that the work permit renewal system had shown that he (Zakir) had an “adverse record with a government agency”.
Zakir was later told that it was an administrative error and that his work permit was not eligible for renewal.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) responded to the episode and said that they take various factors into account when assessing if an applicant is suitable to work in Singapore, and also for the renewal of work passes, according to The Straits Times.
Renewed his work pass many times despite his activism
They said that “Through his time in Singapore, he has written often about migrant workers here. We renewed his work pass many times despite his activism and writings.”
“We draw the line, however, when public posts are misleading, false or deliberately provocative.”
They cited Zakir’s Facebook post last October, with the police responding to a call for help following a confrontation at the Westlite Jalan Tukang Dormitory between the workers and management over the perceived low quality of food and long delays in transporting workers infected with Covid to healthcare facilities.
Called migrant workers work slaves
He had called migrant workers in Singapore “work slaves” and described the dormitories as “work camps”.
He also alleged that soldiers and armoured vehicles were surrounding the dormitory.
MHA said back then that the Special Operations Command officers were on standby, but additional police units were not deployed and no arrested were made.
MOM said that it was a “false characterisation” and that “there were no soldiers, let alone around vehicles around”.
MOM also noted that he signed off his post as being from the “workers of Westlite Tukang” even though he never lived there.
They said that his post could’ve incited the migrant workers at the dormitory and caused incidents of public disorder.
Ability of foreigners to work in Singapore is not an entitlement
The ministry added that Zakir had appealed against his work permit’s non-renewal but his employer did not, and the appeal was considered and they then told him that it was not successful.
They added that “The ability of a foreigner to work in Singapore is not an entitlement. Mr Zakir has been permitted to work in Singapore for a long time, though he was a long-time activist.
“His work pass has since expired. He cannot prolong his stay when he no longer has a job in Singapore. He has overstayed his welcome.”
Husband had an affair with a teacher and this adultery resulted to a child. Wife gave husband 2nd chance.
Husband needs to compensate the child from the teacher. But the (teacher) force the husband to see the child. On top of that teacher is threatening the husband that she will jeopardize his work.
Husband n teacher kept communication (for the child). But the teacher wanted to tear the family of husband and wife. Teacher sends some gifts to husband. Wife discovered it.
Question, what can wife do? Can wife report to the superiors of this teacher – about their immorality?
Editor’s note: For clarity purposes, the husband is having an affair with a woman who works as a teacher.

Ask him to stand outside of the classroom
That sounds a bit vindictive and it’s none of the school’s business. I think at the end of the day you are missing the wood for the trees: that your (“the”) husband did wrong by cheating and now has a new 21 year obligation. It sounds like they may still have feelings for each other You should demand your husband come up with a plan to address his family responsibilities with you, or get divorced

I am with my girlfriend for a few months. As a rs newbie, I made the mistake of telling her about my finances too early in the rs and before I know her well.
I earn an above average income and also got lucky in my recent investments. I’m not filthy rich but the savings I have is substantial for my age group and she knows about it.
I have noticed that her behavior sorta changed after I told her. She has shown much more care and concern towards me, showered me with attention and in general treated me much better than before.
She comes from an average family and doesn’t spend money recklessly but she did casually mention that she wants to live in a condo some day.
I really don’t want a girl who is more interested in my money than me. I can’t ask her directly as I won’t get an honest answer anyway.
I just find myself doubting her more these days, analyzing her words and thinking of breaking off.
Netizens’ comments
If you really want to, tell her you lost a substantial amount of savings due to investment issues. See how she reacts.
If she still stick with you, will you stop doubting her going forward? If she test you the same way, like tell you she needs financial help due to family issues, will u pass the test?
I dunno man. I feel if it comes to the stage where there’s so much mistrust, maybe you don’t love her too
