S’POREAN ASKS WHY DO M’SIANS LIKE TO MOCK AND LOOK DOWN ON S’PORE

0

Why are Malaysians so engrossed with being gastronationalistic against Singapore, including making belitting, mocking or trashing remarks?

First and foremost, such a thing is subjective. How the food tastes, how it’s prepared, as well as its ingredients. Different places have different variants.

Personally, I love food from almost everywhere in the world; be it from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Italy, France, Indonesia, India, etc. I’m always open to tasting new foods. In Southeast Asia, there is no ill-will or hostility when talking about cuisine between Singapore and Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. For some reason, when it comes to Malaysia, it becomes a different story.

If you look at Malaysian online pages, news outlets, journalists, etc, there are always constant mocking of Singaporean cuisine, being referred to as shit, overrated, tasteless, horrible, and that everything is superior in Malaysia. It’s an obsessive trope at this point.

Furthermore, when foreigners make remarks of having positive experiences trying out the food in Singapore, there are always a bunch of Malaysians coming in to mock the food. You can find this on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, especially in vlogs. Is the hostility really necessary, with more more pressing issues to dedicate your energy to?

The question is – Why? Why the need to behave this way, especially if such a thing is subjective? If Malaysian food is so good, surely it’s able to stand on its own without resorting to belittling other nations? Singaporeans hardly do this. In fact, Singaporeans praise cuisines from other countries a lot, including from Malaysia.

And we haven’t even gone to the messy topic of the origins of some dishes, with Malaysians constantly claiming that everything was invented there when talking about Singaporean food, as well as with Indonesia and Indonesian food.

WOMAN SAYS THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS “LUCK”, AND POOR PEOPLE NEED TO WORK HARDER

0

My friend said there is no such thing as luck and poor people need to work harder

That was honestly hurtful to hear.. especially cause she has never had to “work harder”… everything has been handed to her.. I’ve never told her or anybody up until this post that I once ate spaghetti from her sink drain and a tart from the trash when I was at my brokest. My friends assume I have a lot of savings cause I’m frugal but I’m frugal cause I have no money..

I’ve been working for 14 years. I haven’t had a weekend night off in about 5 years.. I wasted my 20s.. and I have nothing to show for these sacrifices. I don’t have debt.. at least there is that.. my credit score is great but I can’t afford shit anyway.. but I cannot leave.. cause my parents are in their mid 60s and still working for minimum wage .. I know one day soon I’ll have to help them out financially

It feels like life is kicking my ass. If it’s not one things it’s another.. most of my teeth have holes in them.. I can barely chew.. all stemming from parents that didn’t teach me the basics… my parents are immigrants who only know work. I was a latchkey kid.. been on my own almost all my life.

I’m so sick of how my life currently is.. I can’t handle worse.

I feel hopeless.

GUY ORDERED FOOD TO CHEER GF UP, BUT SHE’S ANGRY HE DIDN’T BUY FOR HER FAMILY AS WELL

0

I don’t even know whether I’m in the right or wrong….. Gf and I are in a 5Y RS.

Basically what went down was, my girlfriend had a bad day so I surprised her with Mac delivery and she was dumbfounded by why I only ordered for her, and in her opinion I should have ordered for her family as well.

Her argument was that if she was the one ordering for me, my family can’t be watching me eating only (but what’s wrong with that???) she goes on to comment that why do i do such things, the things I do are weird and we have diff mindset.

Anyway my POV is that I’ve never met her family before and ordering for them just didn’t cross my mind, all I knew in my head was: gf feels down > order food to make her feel better

Never thought that I’ll have to deal w this negative feedback from her.

Edit to add in as to why I haven’t met her family:

I’ve recently ORD (23M) just started my career and will be starting PT uni soon.

I haven’t “met her parent’s standard” yet and she doesn’t want her family to worry or feel disappointed for her since I started dating her when we were 17 and I had nth to my name while her sister’s bf were I’d say kinda rich(?). Their bfs lived in condo, had cars and already had a degree. My family was completely the opposite, we weren’t well off, had debts to clear etc. I guess that’s the part that she thinks will worry her family.

SIBLINGS FIGHT OVER BUNGALOW WHEN MOTHER HAD JUST PASS AWAY RECENTLY

0

Am I wrong for thinking I should inherit my late mother’s house over my sister?

I’ll try to make it short because I honestly don’t think I’m in the wrong here.

My mother passed away a few weeks about and her house has become an issue between my sister and me. I’m married with three kids my sister is married but no kids yet. We both live in small apartments.

I think because I have a family and she doesn’t I should get the house. She is fine with me getting the house but wants me to pay her for her half. I feel like I have never heard of that usually one child inherits the house.

I think that’s crazy we are a family and I have three kids and a wife to provide for and she is using our mother’s death as a payday. There’s no way I could afford to give her that much and she knows it.

Now she wants to sell the house and split the money from it. My wife and I think she is being beyond selfish and putting money above family and being an all-around brat. Now she is demanding i decide what I want to do with the house but I’m not budging.

When she wants to grow up and put family before money we can talk.

Here are what netizens think:

  • Actually, selling the house and splitting the proceeds is what usually happens in situations like this. Sorry, the idea of sister gifting you the house is not a fair result to your dilemma.
  • I cracked up reading how OP acts as if this sort of agreement is rare or doesn’t ever happen.
  • wow entitled much, it’s actually the common standard to buy the other one out if one wants to live on the property. You and your spouse are the ones needing to grow up. Your children dont make you more important

PRC WOMAN IN $200K DEBT FROM ONLINE SHOPPING, DULAN FATHER STABS HER TO DEATH

0

A woman in China who was addicted to online shopping, got herself in debts of more than SGD$200,000 (1 million yuan) from shopping online, according to Xinmin Evening News.

Her father used his own savings and took loans from relatives to help his daughter pay off her debts, but she continued shopping online and borrowing money to fund her shopping sprees.

The father and daughter then got into an argument over debt repayments and he then stabbed her to death.

Earned about $600 to $800 a month

China’s Xinmin Evening News reported that the father and daughter worked as security guards for a local train station.

They were not poor but not rich either, they could afford clothes and food but nothing more.

The 30-year-old woman first got addicted to online shopping in 2019, with her family receiving a few credit card statements every few days, and receiving packages every day.

It got to a point where before they could open an older package, a new one would already be delivered and waiting at their door,

The woman, who earns about SGD$584 to SGD$778 (3,000 to 4,000 yuan), couldn’t pay her credit card debts and turned to her father to help her out, which he did by using money from his savings and borrowing from relatives.

But her shopping spree didn’t stop and she borrowed money from other relatives and even took online loans to do some more online shopping.

This resulted in her father receiving calls from her debtors.

Borrowed from loan sharks

The father then confided to his relatives that his daughter had borrowed even more money for her spending habits, and his relatives then lent him another SGD$3,898 (20,000 yuan).

On the day of his daughter’s murder, the father was drinking with a relative during dinner, who told him that his daughter may have borrowed money from loan sharks.

The man then drunkenly replied that because of their debt, he would die with his daughter.

Their relatives then lent him another SGD$5,848 (30,000 yuan) to help them with their debt, but it still wasn’t enough.

The father then went home and he saw his daughter on her phone, and they got into an argument over her debts.

He then stabbed her to death with a fruit knife, before calling the police and waiting for them to arrive at his home.

He was later sentenced to 15-year imprisonment and stripped of his political rights for 2 years, after being convicted by the Shanghai No.2 Intermediate People’s Court.

CRISTIANO RONALDO SLAMS MAN UNITED – “THE CLUB BETRAYED ME & WANTS ME OUT”

0

In a shocking tell-all interview with Piers Morgan, Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo claims that he is being forced out of the club by the United hierarchy, including manager Erik Ten Hag.

He said that he is being forced out of the club by “not only the coach, but another 2 or 3 guys around the club, I feel betrayed”.

He added that “I felt some people don’t want me here, not just this year but last year too.”

On his relationship with current United boss Erik Ten Hag, Ronaldo said that “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t respect me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”

He also shed light on an incident when his daughter was sent to the hospital back in July, revealing that Man United doubted his story and showed a lack of empathy when he didn’t arrive for pre-season training on time as a result of his daughter’s hospitalisation.

Ronaldo also said that the progress that the club has made since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement has been “zero,” adding that he saw “no evolution in the club”.
