30 Y.O WOMAN STILL AFFECTED BY PARENTS SAYING SHE’S “NOT GOOD ENOUGH” 10 YEARS AGO

0

I’m a 30F and still can’t move past some awful things my parents said to me when younger

I still think about it and I feel like it’s definitely effected my psyche in some way. Some background, I’m also Asian American with immigrant parents.

1 major thing they’ve said to me is that I’m not “smart enough to be a doctor” and that my mom thinks I’m “smart, but not very smart.”

When I didn’t get the job I wanted, my mom told me that I’ve never been the type of person to get a good job right away after college (whatever that means).

These were said about 10 years ago at the beginning of my young adult life.

I made my husband promise me that he’d never say things like this to our son, who we’re expecting next month as I’m currently 8 mo pregnant.

I’ve talked to therapist about it before and understand that my parents were just projecting their own insecurities onto me..doesn’t stop it from hurting all these years later though.

And yes, I’ve brought it up with my own parents before who claim they don’t remember saying these things.

RAGING LOCAL BASKETBALL PLAYER PUNCHED REFEREE IN THE FACE AND GETS 2 YEAR BAN

Competitive sports can cause rage because of the intensity of the competition. The desire to win, the pressure to perform, and the need to be successful can all lead to intense emotions.

When a team or individual loses, it can lead to frustration, anger, and sometimes even rage. Additionally, players may become angry if they feel that they are being unfairly judged or treated.

Mega-punch

The match took place on 26 November 2022 between Singapore Adroit and Pegasus Sports in Johor Bahru’s Batu Pahat Association Basketball court

Local team Adroit’s Poh Wei Hao was unhappy after the referee call a technical foul after colliding with another player.

Right after the referee puts out the hand sign for a foul he threw a punch in the face of the referee.

Following the event, the basketball league banned Mr Poh for two years and imposed a S$3,075 (RM 10,000) punishment on the player’s club.

We have embedded the point in time where the punch took place

A netizen who saw the incident said: “I don’t think this behaviour and action is acceptable on the court! Strongly suspended for the whole life!”

Some netizens called for his arrest “He should be arrested for doing that.”

Here are what netizens think:

  • How many were wished to be able to get into a pro team and compete even locally, this dude just threw away his entire career, hope he gets ban
  • Not saying punching it s right but but to be fair, that did not warrant a technical foul, Malaysian help Malaysian. Lose liao then give this kind of foul.
  • In the face sia, hope the referee enjoyed it.

GUY SAY LIFE WITHOUT CAR IS LIKE ‘HANDICAPPED’, CANNOT TAKE MRT

0

My uncle who is my mother’s only brother is quite well to do as compared to my family as his business was doing pretty well ever since I was in Primary School.

My cousin, his only son has been living a luxurious lifestyle for the longest period of time.

He had always been driven around in luxurious branded cars and has never taken the MRT before in his whole life.

If he had no one to fetch him or could not get the car to use, he would just hire a car from any of the ride hailing apps even if the place that he was going to was very accessible by MRT.

Every time I asked him if he wanted to take the MRT when we went out, he would always refuse and say that he hates to squeeze with so many people and smell their odour.

Even when taxis and private hire services are at a high surge price, he would rather pay the extra prices than take the MRT.

He got his driving license suspended a while back because he accumulated too many points and had his credit card cancelled by my Uncle because he was spending too much and had no choice but to take the MRT.

He would go on complaining and raging on our family group chat on how ‘handicapped’ he felt without a driving license as he could not drive to wherever he wants to go and had to take the MRT.

He would also blame my Uncle for cancelling his credit card making him unable to book private hire rides or taxis, resulting in him having to take the MRT.

It has been a while since he lost his license, and he is still feeling ‘handicapped’ till today.

BOSS WEARS ROLEX & LUXURY WATCHES BUT HAS NO MONEY PAY HIS STAFF

0

I used to work in a bar/bistro somewhere in the city area as a waiter for almost a year before I had enough of my boss not paying my salary on time and always finding excuses to delay payment.

I shall not name the place because I don’t want to have any trouble since I have already left the establishment and got all my overdue wages back.

Business as the bar/bistro is not bad to be honest, we are always full house and have many loyal supporters who always come back to give us business.

Our boss is a watch lover and likes to judge people based on the watches they wear so for example if you wear luxury watches like Rolex or watches which are priced in a close to five figure range, he will think that they are well to do.

If your watch is not a Rolex or equivalent, he will not even bother to talk to you.

He will then start to ‘carry the balls’ of all these Rolex wearers and try not to say no to their requests be it how absurd it is.

Every time when it is time for everyone to get paid, the boss will come out with excuses like ‘business is not doing well’ or ‘the company is not making money’, but still appears with a new Rolex watch to show off to his friends and those customers.

Since he is a ball carrier, some of the staff assumed that he would also like his balls to be ‘carried’ and so they start to compliment him on his new Rolex watch purchases and will always find the chance to suck up to him whenever they see him.

To these staff who always compliment his Rolex watch, they will always get extra ‘bonuses’ every pay day and their pay will not be delayed for too long.

For people like me who does not compliments his Rolex watches but rather just want to work properly and be genuine to everyone, we will always face his many excuses when it comes to receiving our pay.

We suspect that he has been taking money out from the business secretly to fund all these Rolex purchases and has not been accountable to other of his business partners since he is in charge of finances.

The longest I got my salary delayed is about 3 weeks, and because of that I ended up having to pay interest for my own bills due to late payment.

I’m just so glad that I am out of that mess after almost a year.

UOB RAISES INTEREST RATES OF SAVINGS ACCOUNTS TO 7.8%

0

On Thursday (Dec 1), UOB raised the interest rates for its flagship savings account, the UOB One, to 7.8 per cent per annum for balances between S$75,000 and S$100,000.

If customers credit their salary to the bank and meet a minimum spend of S$500 a month on an eligible credit and debit card.

More interest

For balances up to S$75,000, rates have been raised to a range of 3.85 per cent to 4.85 per cent per annum, up from 1.4 per cent to 2.5 per cent previously.

With the same salary and card spending criteria, interest earned on balances up to S$75,000 has also been raised to a range of 2.5 per cent to 4 per cent per annum, with no changes to interest rates for balances above S$75,000.

PayNow has been included as an eligible salary credit to help more customers qualify for bonus interest.

Jacquelyn Tan, Head of Group Personal Financial Services at UOB, commented: “We hope that the updated rates for our UOB One Account will help our customers in reducing some of the inflationary impact on their hard-earned savings.”

GUY LATE FOR WORK EVERYDAY BECAUSE OF WORLD CUP, END UP GET SACKED

0

My boss recently terminated a colleague of mine, lets call him JJ, because he had enough of his ‘punctuality issues’ or so he says.

What is even funnier that or job allows us to Work From Home during this period of time because it is the World Cup Season and because almost everyone in our department watches football, my boss approved of this arrangement just for this one month.

His only condition is that we all gather on Zoom at 10am everyday for a short briefing before we go on to work on our respective tasks for the day.

Ever since the first day of the World Cup, JJ has not attended any of the meetings and would wake up as late as 2pm on certain days and only start working at around 3pm.

He would often apologise to all of us saying that he overslept or come up with some excuse that he is feeling unwell or something last minute cropped up etc.

This made our whole team unable to function properly and affected our productivity as what we do is reliant on each other’s effort and because of that, we had missed a lot of important deadlines.

He would also go missing in action when we asked him for something or needed him to do something and only reply at 6pm when the first World Cup game started.

In actual fact, we all know that he dozed off again due to watching every game of the World Cup.

We know this because he can update our group chats whenever something ‘major’ happened in certain games which start as late as 3am.

I think he really deserves to get the sack.

GUY ALREADY LOST 20K @ WORLD CUP BETTING BEFORE KNOCKOUT STAGE

0

The biggest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup, held once in every four years is now at the phase of the last group stage game.

People from all walks of life, even my friends and colleagues who do not gamble will gamble a little during this once every four year tournament just for the fun of it while watching the game.

I usually make quite a few thousand dollars from major tournaments like the World Cup and thought of making an even bigger killing this year.

Hence, during the build up to the tournament, I decided to read up a little to see which teams to put my money on.

However, I finally got the meaning of the ‘ball is round’ this World Cup as a lot of results did not go as I would have expected it to be.

I punted big money on the powerhouses such as Argentina and Germany which turned out to be a mistake.

Like how in the world can Argentina lose to Saudi Arabia and Germany lose to Japan?

As the results turned against me, I decided that I had to punt even more to try to recoup my losses, I started to do ‘live betting’ and I would ‘play big’ when the game time was just a few more minutes to go before it ended, thinking that there would be no last minute goals and I would surely win.

I guess luck is really not with me as those games I lost a lot on those live betting games.

I am down about 20K now, which is almost half my annual income.

RONALDO SET TO EARN S$283 MILLION/YEAR WITH SAUDI CLUB – HIGHEST PAID ATHLETE OF ALL TIME

0

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to sign a record breaking deal with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, which will guarantee his status as the highest paid athlete of all time.

Following his controversial departure from Manchester United, the 37-year-old superstar has reportedly agreed a £173 million (S$283.7 million) a year deal with Al Nassr on a 2.5 year contract.

The total amount of money that he stands to make from his deal, stands at S$709.25 million.

Recap

Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo is set to leave the club with immediate effect, after both Man United and the player agreed to terminate his contract following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan where he claimed the club betrayed him.

The player had called out the club for lacking empathy after his newborn son died during childbirth, and added that he was being forced out of the club by the manager and the club executives.

Man United had initially sought legal advice to explore what kind of actions they could take against Ronaldo for allegedly breaching his contract with the interview, but they have since decided to terminate his £500k/week contract instead.

Ronaldo is now effectively a free agent.

Man United’s statement

Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.

Ronaldo’s response

Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.

I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.

Singapore Airlines SQ33 SFO-SIN with built in corgi seating area

For those asking

Yes possible with ESA documentation. We did import permit for Thailand and transshipment license for Singapore. We relocated from Bay Area to Thailand thus had to bring our dogs on a oneway ride to Thailand with us.

As for bathroom needs – we modified their feeding and water schedule about a month in advance so they’d be basically take their final poddy right before we left for the airport. Our older dog, had an accident as we got off the jetway in Singapore but it was ok since we had pee pads, poop bags, and baby wipes at the ready. PROTIP: at Changi, we went looking for the sunflower garden for them to go potty but it was under renovation. One of the passenger transport golf cart drivers pointed us to the outdoor smokers garden right under the SilverKris lounge and it worked like a charm (except had lots of smokers so probably shaved a few days off our lives).

Both dogs mostly slept on the plane as we gave them gabapentin at various intervals. We timed it perfectly so they’d fall sleep right as we were about to take off and land.

For those opposed to dogs, I get it but I purposely chose the row nearest to the exits. Also our dogs are well behaved so it’s not like they were barking or running around. Mostly just slept and cuddled.

Other stuff we did to prep:

We had them sleep at home listening to an airplane sounds video on YouTube for several nights before our flight so they wouldn’t be as surprised by the noises. We had a surround sound system so it sounded quite realistic. Didn’t seem to bother them and they slept soundly every night.

We also took them to the airport on a Tuesday night a few weeks before to meet the ground crew, Clear checkpoint people, and TSA agents who would be working around the time we would be checking in the upcoming Tuesday night of our flight. Totally worked! The dogs got the celebrity treatment (as usual) with the ground crew taking selfies with them and giving them lots of cuddle and pets. We also got time to ask questions and verify the document list we had was correct. We also talked to some folks over at TSA on the process of bringing the dogs through security which was very helpful.

Also shoutout to Little Chonk – we put Peanut (our two year old boy seen here on the right) fin their backpack on my back while checking in and before going through security. Helped out a ton as he’s a very curious little guy and loves to sniff new places. He was quite happy in the backpack and just chilled on my back while we checked in and getting to the security check point. After that he walked with Mindy (out girl on the left) to the United Polaris lounge to await the flight. They were both super well behaving in the SFO United Polaris and SIN SilverKris lounges

EDIT: wow! This blew up. If you wanna know more about our dogs, follow on IG @mindyandpeanutcorgifam

Or here on Facebook Mindy the Corgi – they’ve lead quite good live as mascots for our art school and are now retired with us in Phuket, Thailand.
