S’PORE TIKTOKERS USING ELDERLY ICE-CREAM UNCLE FOR VIEWS, PRETEND TO HELP HIM

0

Facebook user Larry Lai previously shared about an elderly uncle who makes less than $300 per month selling ice cream outside Sim Lim Tower.

He appealed to TikTokers not to take advantage of the elderly uncle, sharing that some of them took videos of the uncle under the pretext of helping him for views on their TikTok videos.

However, when Lai went to check on the elderly man’s stocks, he found that the number was still the same and it hadn’t moved.

Here is what he said

Paiseh. Thousand apologies.

Don’t mean to spam you with ice cream man Boon news but many message me on his well being and also on whether is he a illegal hawker. So I will clarify here.

Boon has a valid license. I masked his ic number in the picture below. We will help to renew his license for next year soon.

His type of license is not issued to new applicants anymore. In Singapore there are 8 of them itinerant hawkers left. If Boon die then there will only be 7 of them left in Singapore.

Boon can sell ice cream anywhere. Many ask me why don’t he sell elsewhere. He wanted to sell in Orchard Road. Any of you guys gonna cycle for him from his house in Geylang Bahru for him? And back.

Last time he cycled to Sim Lim Tower he already kena langa and got knocked down by lorry already. To Orchard Road even worse. And manoeuvring a ice cream cart is not as easy as it looks . Those who have pushed wheelchair before will know what I mean.

He also don’t want to go to Si Beh Lor. Waterloo Street. There more people plus he old man people sure buy. But as there is already a Magnolia ice cream vendor there, he feels it is unethical to go compete for customers. How many of you can be so noble. In a cut throat world, such gentlemanly behaviour is rare.

When he finishes at the end of the day, he will go Berseh look for Aunty Chia who will bring him to MRT station and sometimes, home. He can read without reading glasses. At 90. Assuming you live till 90, I am sure your eyesight will not be as robust as his.

He was already there cleaning his cart, rearrange his stock and repacking his dry ice at 7am this morning when I visited him. Today he don’t want kopi o so I went Chinatown buy him porridge before I go to work. If any of you guys are around do ask him if he need a drink. He seldom accept food as he don’t eat a lot.

And my appeal to tik tokers, please don’t take advantage of him. Do video with him as a prop and pretending to sell ice cream for him while videoing yourself . I went check his stock and they are still the same. Minimally buy $20-$30 from him mah. And stop sticking your label on his cart. If need to do so please talk to Aunty Chia.

Today we also arrange a social worker to go visit him at his home. I will not share the arrangements made but I can tell you that Irene Woon has given him a walker and did some great arrangements for him. Thanks Irene

Ok end of short update. I don’t think I can live till so old. But here is a 90 year old man (he is older than his ic age), who is so independent, robust for his age (though he is getting weaker after he was C+) and really manifests the spirit and strength of the Silver Generation.

That’s why his life journey is so compelling.

*Ding Ding Ding. Please buy an ice cream. Sim Lim Tower near the OCBC ATM from Ng Teak Boon.

S’PORE GUY TO M’SIA POLITICIAN, “M’SIANS COME SG WORK CAUSE YOU NEVER TAKE CARE OF THEM”

0

Nga Kor Ming, a Malaysian politician from the Pakatan Harapan party, was speaking during a rally ahead of Malaysia’s general election and said that Singaporeans will be the ones seeking jobs in Malaysia instead, if his party wins.

TikTok user @tommynbcb shared his thoughts on Nga’s speech, hitting back at the Malaysian politician and saying that Malaysians come to Singapore to work because the Malaysian government is not taking care of them.

He said that these Malaysian politicians like to NATO “No Action, Talk Only” – when it comes to talking, they like to promise people the sky.

But when it comes to actually doing, they won’t do anything or deliver on their promises.

He asked Mr Nga, “Do you think Malaysians will come to Singapore to work meh, if they can find work in Malaysia?”

“They come to Singapore to work because you guys cannot take care of them! When it’s time for elections, you all talk so loud, after election can’t even see your shadow”.

“Then you knn bring Singapore into the conversation for what? you are the ones treating Malaysians as sohai, making them listen to you talking gibberish and doing nothing.”

“What makes me the most dulan is why are you insulting Singaporeans in your speech? We didn’t force them (the Malaysians) to come here to work, you are the ones who caused them to come here to work.”

“I also wish my Malaysian friends can stay and work in Singapore instead of being stuck in the customs every day just to earn that little bit of money in Singapore.

“We Singaporeans appreciate your Malaysians more than your own government.”

DENNIS CHEW IS FAMOUS AMONG SPIRITS, HAD GHOSTS WANTING TO MEET HIM DURING 7TH MONTH

Radio DJ Dennis Chew, who is better known for his ghost stories on his radio and TV shows over the years, is apparently well known among the ghostly community and is treated as a celebrity by spirits.

Chew was speaking on the ScreamApura Tales show on YouTube where he shared some supernatural experiences with host Hafidz Rahman.

He shared that during the Hungry Ghost Month earlier this year, he was burning paper offerings on the last day of the hungry ghost month and was flipping two 20-cent coins as a moon block, to get “permission” from the hungry ghosts to begin his prayers.

Moon blocks

Source: 粤海清庙 Temple

For context, a monoblock (or Jiao Bei in Chinese), is a tool used in Chinese prayers to get answers from spirits and/or deities, consisting of two blocks of “heads” and “tails”, where it is tossed into the air and lands on the ground.

Moon blocks with one side showing “heads” and another side showing “tails” would mean “yes”, whereas any other combinations (heads-heads or tails-tails) would mean “no”.

Trying to get permission from the spirits for prayers

Chew was using two 20-cent coins as moon blocks and was trying to get “permission” from the spirits so that he could commence with his joss paper burning, with his crew members behind him.

However, despite trying many times, he kept getting “no” throughout his numerous attempts. He was wondering why he couldn’t get a “yes”, as his crew members behind him (some of whom he claimed to be able to “see” the spirits) kept silent because they didn’t want to scare him.

He finally succeeded on the 7th try and then went on with his joss paper burning.

Ghostly “fans” wanted to see him a little longer

The next morning, he boarded a PHV vehicle to go to work – he was opening the car door at the time, when the PHV driver then opened his window and appeared to be listening to people talking.

Chew then greeted the driver and said “hello”, to which the driver said “wow, it’s you ah! not bad ah? so early ah?”

Throughout the ride, the driver kept quiet, before breaking the silence and asking Chew “How are you? Did you pray?”

Chew then said “yeah I prayed last night,” and the driver said ‘I know, I know. Last night when you were praying, you tried very long to get permission right?”

Chew was dumbfounded and asked the driver “how you know?”

The driver then told him “just now when you got into my car, did you notice I winded down my window? So many of ‘them’, they were chatting about you”.

He added the ghosts were saying “oh this is Mr Zhou! Always telling ghost stories, don’t so fast give him permission (for the prayers he did the previous night), let him throw a few more times, we want to see him.”

There were many spirits looking at him

Chew said that he feels both happy and scared about this because it’s a compliment but at the same time, because there were so many of “them” looking at him, it spooked him.

He then shared the story with his crew members, including those who could “see”, they told him that on the last night of the hungry ghost festival when he was struggling to get a “yes” from the hungry ghosts, they (the hungry ghosts) were all standing far away but all looking at him, and his crew members kept quiet so as not to scare him.

26 Y.O GUY FRACTURED FATHER’S HIP, THEN PUNCHED HIS MOTHER IN THE FACE, JAILED

0

26-year-old Kiong Boon Wee was previously given a 12-month conditional stern warning for assaulting his elderly father and causing him to fracture his hip after the latter refused to let his son learn gymnastics in April 2021.

The younger Kiong then assaulted his mother in September this year after she also refused to give him permission to learn gymnastics.

He was sentenced to 7 months and 5 weeks imprisonment on 2 November after pleading guilty to charges that includes 2 counts of assault.

What happened?

Kiong was with his 73-year-old father at their Ho Ching Road home on 23 April 2021 when they got into an argument about the former wanting to learn gymnastics.

Kiong then slapped and punched his elderly father in the face and used both his hands to push him onto the ground, before returning to his room.

The victim felt a sharp pain in his right hip after getting up and tried to make it better by applying medicated oil, but the pain was too much.

The victim and his wife then went to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital the following day and the elderly Kiong was then found to have fractured his right hip.

The police were then alerted to the incident by the hospital, and the victim was then hospitalised before being transferred to Jurong Community Hospital for rehabilitation.

In another incident, Kiong was home with his 60-year-old mother in May 2021 when he punched her in the face. Three months later, he punched her again.

Court documents didn’t mention why he assaulted his mother on those two occasions.

The mother then filed for a personal protection order against her son, which was then issued on 31 August 2021.

Kiong was given a 12-month conditional warning on 17 February for his assault on his father, but he then breached the PPO that his mother filed against him by assaulting her on two separate occasions after they had a tiff over his interest in joining a gymnastics class.

On 27 September, Kiong grabbed his mother by her shoulders and sunk his nails into them, before hitting her in the face.

He assaulted his mother again the next day and pulled her hair, hitting her face and grabbing her shoulders – she cried for help and their neighbours then alerted the police.

57-year-old part time tutor, Teo Thian Hoe, was sentenced to 4 days imprisonment on 2 November after pleading guilty on 17 October to a charge of assault, with another similar charge being considered during his sentencing.

He had attacked his 8-year-old student for giving wrong answers during a tutoring session at the girl’s home, and was caught by the victim’s father.

What happened?

Teo was hired by the girl’s father in January to provide private tuition for her.

He also grabbed her head and pushed it downwards as the victim cried.

His actions were captured on a CCTV camera that was installed inside the room, and the girl also told her father that Teo would punch her suddenly whenever she didn’t do her work properly and that her arm hurt.

The father thought his daughter was being dramatic but decided to observe proceedings through the CCTV camera.

On 22 March, Teo lost his temper again during the lesson and scolded the girl, flicking her forearms and knocking her head with his knuckles 4 times.

He also slapped her right hand and punched her left upper arm twice, grabbed her neck and pushed her head downwards.

The girl suffered a bruise on her left arm and was crying.

The father was home at the time of the incident and heard the tutor yelling at the girl, and he saw Teo assaulting his daughter through the CCTV.

He then confronted the man and told him to leave his home, before he alerted the police to the incident.

S’PORE FLIGHT ATTENDANT KILLED AFTER BEING HIT BY DRUNK DRIVER IN TAIWAN

A Singapore flight attendant in his 30s to 40s, was killed after being in a car accident while he was in Taipei on 1 November, at about 9 pm, according to The Straits Times.

He was crossing the road in the Da’an District in Taipei when a Porsche crashed into him, and the impact was so significant that Porsche’s front bumper was dented badly.

The flight attendant was rushed to the hospital and later declared dead despite the doctors’ best efforts to resuscitate him.

According to Taiwan News, the Porsche driver, a 52-year-old man identified as Hsiang, had reportedly admitted to drinking a “few glasses of red wine” with his friends earlier that night.

ETToday reported that the driver has a history of drink driving offences.

His breathalyser test showed that his blood alcohol level was 0.58mg/l, exceeding the local legal limit by 0.15mg.

Hsiang had believed that he was sober to drive, and blamed the accident on the “dark and rainy” conditions, adding that the victim had dashed across the road suddenly.

According to Yahoo News, United Airlines is liaising with the local authorities to fly the deceased’s remains back to Singapore.

The authorities in Taipei are currently investigating the incident.

Here are what netizens think:

  • This is so heartbreaking to see, the moment it started to get crowded to the point where you couldn’t stop walking without being pushed people should have gotten out of there immediately. Nothing good ever comes from being in a crowd and being unable to get out or being unable to even move because of how crammed it is. My deepest condolences go out to all the people who are hurting from the loss of someone close to them. Please stay safe, especially when around crowds and holidays times.
  • This is why I HATE crowded places. I get anxious just seeing the big crowds and to actually be inside that? heck no!
  • I’m always the one person in my group that refuses to join the crowd. I always say I’m gonna wait right here where no one is around until the huge crowd of people disperse and they never want to listen to me and sometimes force me to walk with them. Now I can show them this and the consequences if they refuse to listen to me.
