JOSEPH SCHOOLING “DISAPPOINTED” WITH SANCTIONS BY SPORTS-SG FOR HIS DRUG USE

0

Following the revelations of national swimmers Joseph Schooling, Amanda Lim and Teong Tzen Wei admitting to using drugs overseas, SportSG has since suspended their support to the swimmers and imposed sanctions.

Joseph Schooling has since responded to the sanctions via an official statement, saying that he is disappointed with it: “As a national athlete, we need all-rounded support to help navigate us in our journey in all aspects of life.”

However, he added that he accepted the consequences and said that he would continue to train independently outside his NS commitments, saying “I made a mistake and I accept the consequences.”

SportSG announced on 28 September that they have suspended their support for the trio, who are under their High Performance Scheme.

The trio tested negative for controlled drugs while being investigated by CNB but admitted to consuming the drugs while they were part of TeamSG overseas.

As part of the sanctions, they will not be allowed access to SportSG facilities and services for a month with effect from 1 October, among others.

BF WENTS MIA ON GF AFTER HE IS “DONE” WITH HER, GOES BACK TO EX

0

How to have closure when your bf leaves you without saying a word?

Is something wrong with me? I thought we were doing ok. He was so loving and nice in the beginning. He refused to tell me about his ex gf.

I don’t even know when they broke up only that it was not very long ago. I suspect I was a rebound but I had no way of knowing since he doesn’t want to talk about his past. He insisted that I’m not.

We spent a lot of time together. I would go to his place during the weekends. Netflix. Have dinner nearby. Walk in the park. I thought everything was fine. I didn’t sense anything amiss as his parents are also very nice and kind to me.

Then things changed, we made arrangements to meet and he would not show up and not pick up my calls. I was left stranded twice waiting for him for over an hour only to give up and leave the place. He started to cut short our conversations, saying he’s busy.

I didn’t want to overthink but I was getting frustrated and I chose to leave him alone as I was prepping for my papers.

Then I heard from my friends that his group has a new girl and he’s always hanging out with her. I asked him about it and he told me to leave her alone. What? I can’t even find out what’s going on from him?

Not long after, he didn’t even have the guts to tell me it’s over. He got a friend to inform me instead. He blocked my number and ig so I can’t even contact him. I can only communicate through his friend? The worst part is his friend tried to be funny with me at the same time.

Talking to me in a dirty and offensive way. What is this? I’m not desperate for love. What on earth did he tell his friend about me that I would be treated in such a disrespectful and demeaning way?

Is this how people break up? I’m not even worth the effort to be told what I needed to hear face to face? I feel so worthless.

A part of me tries to not believe myself but if he can throw me away like this I must be not worth loving.

NOT SO SMART BF LAYS NEWSPAPER ALL OVER CAR SEATS SO IT DOES NOT GETS DIRTY

0

Bf is too protective over his car

How do I talk to my bf about this? His behavior towards his car is bothering me.

My bf overall is an ok guy. We are not perfect so I didn’t expect him to be. But I am starting to lose patience with him over his 2nd hand car. I won’t even bother mentioning the brand and model.

I know it’s his baby and I don’t have issues with how he dolls up his car. But he has the most ridiculous demands when it comes to his car. I am not allowed to eat in his car. I can drink but only water.

If I spill I must clean. I am to clean up each time when I leave his car. He lays newspapers over the seat and flooring and expects me to sit over it while he does the same. I am to replace the newspapers after each ride. So I cannot wear white shorts or white anything whenever I sit his car because I don’t want to stain my clothes from the newspapers. I also have to clean my shoes before stepping in. Once I took out my hair clip to tie up my hair while in the car and he made a huge fuss about picking up my hair strands and demanded that I clean it up.

Wth?! When I bring plastic bags or carrier bags from buying things I am not allowed to put it in the back seat which is lined with newspapers all over. Only the boot, also lined with loads of newspapers. My handbag must be on my lap, not at the backseat. Isn’t newspapers dirtier?! He didn’t want to explain further to me and just demanded that I follow his ways if I still want a ride.

He likes to send me to work but I couldn’t take it anymore and started to go to work on my own again. I didn’t expect him to behave like this when it comes to his car because other things he doesn’t behave this way. How do I talk to him about this?

He doesn’t listen that its bothering me and I don’t know how to make him that see his car ways makes no sense to me.

MAN ATTENDS UNI IN LATE 30s, FACES ELITISM FROM YOUNGER STUDENTS

0

not the first will not be the last

grew up poor, started working part-time since 14, many decisions made in life are always about which is cheaper, bring more money home to pay bills, which is needed

decided to plunge into uni for bachelor’s in my late 30s and I stick out like a sore thumb in y2 and will likely continue sticking out until y3 and graduation

now reaching my 40s, I don’t understand much of what classmates say

i am not able to speak up for class participation and no one in my entire y1, lecturer, tutor, classmates, administration office staff, ever had to patience to wait for me to think through my thoughts to ask questions or participate in any way

as with many other adults, I need to help out financially at home and I am earning a living with part time work, rushing from work to school and school to work, burning my weekends with job too

but not eligible for financial aid because my parent rents out one of our rooms and works in a cashiering job which nicely reaches the cut-off for financial aid

I had to learn how to use the laptop, spend money to buy a laptop that works with the software needed, and spend money to upgrade my internet during covid university (512 just don’t cut it for live lectures that lecturers refuse to record)

now there’s money for ‘enrichment’ and lost opportunity financial cost because of compulsory face-to-face briefings for IA and all that

the hardest has been the elitism within

I don’t know whether it’s my course or is there a problem with me but classmates easily say let’s go to the cafe for lunch, buy bubble tea, meet for 4h project meetings that are mostly silent because no one bothers to come prepare

while in my head I’m just thinking how much all these are going to cost me – and that project meeting habits that everyone seems to have? I lose working hours (I am paid by the hour so the travelling time and project discussion time in total adds up to 1 month’s electricity bill per project meeting easily)

I know I’m not high class, and I have given up trying to fit into the high-class standards since y1 week 3. yet, it hurts, because people mark you down in group appraisal, tutors say I don’t speak standard English and at the same time insist that as a nus student they have every right to judge and lecture as us pampered students who don’t know the sufferings of the poor, and classmates will not spend time understanding me because my input is always assumed to be of a lower quality too

they say in sg you study then got better future

I beg to differ

in sg if you can cope with the elitism you study got better future, if you can’t it crushes your soul even more

if you can afford u as a lower class person, avoid nus

at least you wont be treated like dirt by all the elitist in nus

does any real lower-class student out there have any real constructive suggestion to how to survive the next 3 years? I cannot change school and course, too much sunken cost.

GUY STEPS IN TO STOP UNCLE FROM FIGHTING AT FUNAN MALL, “EVERYTHING’S FINE”

TikTok user Marc Yang shared a video showing himself breaking up a fight between an elderly man and another person and preventing it from escalating.

An elderly man was seen in the video shouting hokkien vulgarities at another man who was wearing a security uniform.

The man who was wearing the security shirt was seen avoiding the elderly man, as he used his phone and tried to walk away from him.

The elderly man then continued following him and things were starting to get heated, when Yang then stepped forward to stop him.

He was seen in the video telling the elderly man to calm down and asking what happened, as the elderly man told him that the other guy was being unreasonable.

Without context, the elderly man said “this is a shopping mall leh, but he said it is his house.”

LORRY SUDDENLY BRAKES & TURNS 90 DEGREES, THEN CRASHES INTO 2 CARS ON SLE

A video emerged online showing a accident between a lorry and two cars on the SLE on 29 September at about 6.47pm.

The lorry was seen travelling along the SLE before suddenly braking, resulting in the vehicle “drifting” sideways and turning almost 90 degrees to the right.

A red coloured car was driving at full speed and not expecting the lorry to abruptly turn into its lane, then crashed into the lorry.

The lorry then skids before slowly drifting towards the opposite end of the road, hitting another car along the way.

MAN WHO MADE BOMB THREATS ON SIA PLANE, TESTS POSITIVE FOR DRUGS, CHARGED

0

The man who was behind the bomb scare on board a Singapore Airlines flight SQ33, has been revealed to be a 37-year-old American, La Andy Hien Duc.

He has since been charged in court on 29 September for causing alarm and voluntarily causing hurt during the now-infamous incident, where he allegedly claimed that there was a bomb onboard the aircraft.

His urine test also came back positive for controlled drugs.

What happened?

SQ33 arrived from San Francisco to Changi Airport on 28 September at about 5.50am, while being escorted by RSAF fighter jets.

Andy had made a bomb threat before hitting a cabin crew member, and he was then restrained onboard the flight.

The Singapore Police said that apart from shouting that there was a bomb on the plane, Andy also grabbed the luggage of another passenger from the overhead compartment.

Cabin crew staff tried to stop the man but were allegedly assaulted by him, and the crew later found no suspicious items inside the luggage after checking.

The man was charged in Singapore under Singapore law despite the offence taking place outside of Singapore, this is because it took place on an aircraft that was controlled by Singapore, according to the Tokyo Convention Act 1971.

The police said that they will take action against those who cause public alarm with false threats:

“Beyond the fear and inconvenience caused to other members of the public, the making of false threats comes at a cost, in the extensive public resources that have to be deployed to deal with the incident.”

Singapore Police Force’s statement

A 37-year-old male foreigner has been charged for allegedly causing alarm and assaulting a cabin crew while on board flight SQ33 from San Francisco to Singapore on 28 September 2022.

The man has been charged on 29 September 2022 with an offence of using threatening words likely to cause alarm, which is punishable under Section 4(2) of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014, read with Section 3(1) of the Tokyo Convention Act 1971, and an offence of voluntarily causing hurt, which is punishable under Section 323 of the Penal Code 1871, read with Section 3(1) of the Tokyo Convention Act 1971.

The offence of using threatening words likely to cause alarm carries a fine of up to $5,000. The offence of voluntarily causing hurt carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

Under the Tokyo Convention Act 1971, if a crime takes place on a Singapore-controlled aircraft flying outside of the country, the offender can be charged with the offence under Singapore laws.

Preliminary investigations indicate that during the flight, the man had allegedly shouted that there was a bomb on the plane and grabbed another passenger’s luggage from the cabin’s overhead compartment. A member of the cabin crew was allegedly assaulted by the man when he tried to intervene and restrain the man. Checks by the cabin crew did not reveal any suspicious items in the passenger’s luggage.

The plane landed safely in Changi Airport at about 5.50am, under the escort of two of the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s F-16 fighter jets. For the safety of all passengers and crew, officers from the Airport Police Division and Special Operations Command’s K-9 Unit, as well as the Singapore Armed Forces’ Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosives Defence Group, were mobilised to investigate the threat, which was found to be false.

As a result of the additional security measures implemented to ensure the safety of all persons on board flight SQ33, there was a delay of more than four hours in disembarkation. The 17 crew and 208 passengers disembarked at only around 9.30am.

Preliminary investigations by the Central Narcotics Bureau revealed that the man’s urine tested positive for controlled drugs.

The Police will not hesitate to take action against anyone who causes public alarm with false threats. Beyond the fear and inconvenience caused to other members of the public, the making of false threats comes at a cost, in the extensive public resources that have to be deployed to deal with the incident.

0

A new law went into effect back in July, banning smoking at all public parks, gardens and the 10 beaches in Singapore.

Smokers were given an adjustment period of 3 months by the National Environment Agency, where offenders who breach the new law would receive a verbal warning instead of a fine.

Howveer, the adjustment period comes to an end on 1 October 2022, and those who are found guilty of smoking at the prohibited areas will be fined $200.

NEA’s press release

JOINT ADVISORY BETWEEN NEA, NPARKS, PUB AND SDC

3          To allow smokers to adjust to smoke-free parks, Designated Smoking Areas (DSAs) are provided in some larger regional parks and within the vicinity of the three beaches in Sentosa (refer to Annex B for the list of places where DSAs are available). ‘No Smoking by law’ signages, posters and banners have also been installed at the new smoke-free locations as additional visual reminders.

GIRL HAS PROBLEMS SLEEPING – CLASS STARTS AT 9AM BUT ONLY SLEEPS AT 6AM

0

Anybody else have trouble sleeping?

I’ve always had difficulty sleeping, i usually go to sleep at 5-6am or even not sleep at all when i have a 9am class.

Sometimes after coming back after a long day of not sleeping, i would still sleep at 3am. Then i’d stay up longer as an attempt to fix my sleeping pattern, but that only lasts for 2 days.

I don’t want to self diagnose myself as an insomniac, so i’m just a night owl for now. I know it’s unhealthy to not have a proper sleeping pattern.

I’ve been this way for years now. When i force myself to sleep, i end up just closing my eyes for 3 hours straight, not falling asleep, and then just giving up.

Anyone have this problem as well?

Netizens’ comments

Having trouble falling asleep, or falling asleep at 11pm but waking up in the middle of the night is actually pretty common.

It might be due to stress, or your brain is too active from too much thoughts. I myself usually sleeps at 3-4am and waking up at 8am, it’s becoming more of a habit nowadays.

Some suggestions you can try for a better sleep:

  1. Melatonin candies, aids in sleeping
  2. Exercising after dinner, healthier lifestyle and tires you out
  3. Stop any digital activities 1 hour before your bedtime(insta, tiktok, drama chasing etc.)
  4. Try to have a fixed routine and sleeping at a fixed timing
  5. Reduce caffeine intake throughout the day(?)
  6. Listen to “rain sounds, or soothing music” to doze off
  7. Making a warm cup of lavender or chamomile tea before sleep
