MANAGER FEELS BAD MAKING INTERNS DO WORK, BOSS SAYS “DON’T SPOIL THE INTERNS”

0

Hi all, Let’s keep this short,

I work as a manager of a certain company and we have interns working with us on an ongoing basis, and I sometimes feel bad for giving them too much work as I know that they are just an intern and they are paid less.

I tend to dote on my interns so I usually take on some execution work myself so that they can get some work-life balance and end at a proper 9-5 job without OT.

But recently, my boss wants me to take my hands off execution work and just throw all the work to interns to handle as she wants me to understand that interns are here to learn and not for me to spoil.

But if I were to do that, surely my interns will have OT and likely break down one day or perhaps feel uninterested and quit the job. (Happened before to a few interns)

I know that there’s like a work-life balance kind of thing in the genZ mindset but then there’s also the “You are here to learn” mindset from professionals working in the industry. What do yall think?

Netizens’ comments

  1. While the interns are learning, your boss is also having you develop people management skills too.
  2. You do realise your boss is developing you in people management area right? Let interns learn, learn to let go. Everyone happy.
  3. I think there must be a balance. They are interns, not full time staff. You cannot be totally hands off and let them run the show. If they screw up how? Is your boss going to be responsible
At the same time, you also can’t hold their hands forever if not they will never learn. I think just add on the workload slowly and systematically, and most importantly communicate and tell them your plan is for them to be self-sufficient and able to hold the fort at their own work one day
Maybe give them bit by bit, hear their feedback. You will still need to guide them. Never be the absent leader.

WOMAN “TOMPANG” COLLEAGUE’S GRAB RIDE, GETS A FREE RIDE HOME & DIDN’T OFFER TO PAY

0

You calling Grab? Can I tompang.

I went to a seminar with some colleagues. When it was time to go home, A asked how I was going home as she stayed in the same area.

So I said that I will be calling for a Grab. A asked if she could tompang. I was taken aback and wondered what that meant. Did she mean sharing the cost of the grab? But nevertheless I was caught off guard and said ok.

During the ride, i kept thinking if she was going to say anything about sharing the cost. In the end, she did not but at least she didnt ask to be sent to her place.

I reached home feeling kind of disgusted. Am I wrong to think that A was ‘buay paiseh’ (not shy), cos this is something that i will not do.

I will not even wanna trouble anyone even if that person drove and offered me a ride. I always tell myself do not do something i dun want others to do to me.

I asked my family members, some agreed with me but some said I was too calculative. What do you guys think? Btw, the grab ride is from my own pocket, cant claim.

CO-WORKERS ASK GIRL WHY SHE WEAR “AUNTIE CLOTHES” IN OFFICE BUT WEEKENDS WEAR SO NICE

0

(Rant) So many people say – Just be yourself, do what makes you happy – and then judge/criticise your every decision.

“Why you order prawn mee without the prawn? Why you order BKT never eat the meat? Damn waste money leh”

Is because I like it that way. Are you paying for my lunch? No, I’m the one paying, then what’s wrong with that?

“Why u study so hard for masters degree then go into HR? That one even O level/diploma holder can do leh”

I studied hard for my own personal fulfilment and achievements. Did you pay for my school fees? No, I saved and paid everything myself. I get 7k/month for my HR job that “any auntie in Singapore can do”. I’m not even 24 yet. I go to work at 10am and finish by 5pm. I enjoy my work, get to come home on time, and my role is in high demand, what’s wrong with that?

“Huh you like BTS? All auto tune and they ah gua leh, you no boyfriend issit?” If you don’t like them, don’t listen to them. If you think you’re better than them, why aren’t you the one with a net worth of 25 million dollars? And yeah, I have a bf but I like BTS, what’s wrong with that? Also, what’s wrong with being ah gua? Not as if they (or any person for that matter) would find u attractive….

“Why you come office always wear auntie clothes but on weekends wear so nice?”Because I don’t want my bosses/co workers to see my chest and (flat) *ss hanging out. Why tf would I come to work in a tube top and high waisted shorts? If I want to cover myself at work, and yet wear revealing clothes outside of work, what’s wrong with that?

And yet, people like this still have the cheek to preach some nonsense like “oh just be yourself, do what makes you happy, don’t care what others think”. For the sake of professionalism, I’m forced to entertain stupid remarks like these with a smile on my face and casually laugh it off. One day, I’ll probably lose it and ask them with a poker face

“It’s because it makes me happy, you got a problem with me being happy?”

S’PORE MAN REFUSED ENTRY INTO M’SIA BECAUSE HIS PASSPORT HAD A PAGE TORN OUT

0

Facebook user Casper Chu shared how he was refused entry into Malaysia at the Johor immigration office because he had a missing page in his passport.

Chu said that the incident happened on 26 September at the JB Customs, and he received a Notice of Refusal of Entry after being denied entry into the country.

The reason for his rejection was stated as “not having a valid passport”, and he was apparently missing a page-14 of his passport, which appeared to have been torn out.

He said that the last time he returned from Malaysia, his passport was complete and that no one had touched his passport ever since, so he is baffled.

He captioned his post: “Kena yesterday at JB custom. The last time I came back from Malaysia, my passport was complete, and no one touched it during this period.”

Netizen’s comments

  • that’s why, it is very ultimately important, that you check your passports after getting them back from the customs officer. do not immediately leave in relief, despite kena jammed for hours
  • it is not unusual for passports to not be chopped or torn by customs officers, in order to sabotage you, and cause you trouble.
  • Check your passport before you travel period. You cannot accuse custom officer of damaging your passport when you did not check before travelling.

The netizen, told STOMP that she had opened the app to check the prices on 26 September at about 2.43am, to check the prices.

The woman ended up booking a ride with Grab instead, which set her back $42, which is more than $100 cheaper than Ryde’s cheapest option.

Netizen’s comments

  • Ryde fares are normally better than the others. Most likely a Glitch or problem with route tracking lah.
  • The car Tyres running in pure gold… you guys know the math
  • Roll’s Royce ah?
  • are you sure this is by car, not an airplane?? wah!!
  • Even paying $42 on grab is too much, rather take normal cab lor..max $35..if the uncle decides to take you around sg…also at 2.40am in the morning, there isn’t so much traffic..
  • What kind of currency are they charging SGD??? Rob a bank in broad daylight would be better.

0

The girl captioned her video “I was just vibing happily with my friends when a man appeared and grabbed my chest”.

Potential penalties

The offence of outrage of modesty is punishable under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871.

The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.

S’pore Police guidelines on preventing molestation

Police would like to share some steps you can take to keep yourself and all our loved ones safe.

  1. Be alert and attentive to your surroundings, especially when you are in a crowded and confined space (i.e. in public entertainment night spots, in lifts, MRT, buses etc.) or alone with a stranger that moves very near to you.
  2. If someone rushes into the lift at the last minute and you are alone, it is safer to step out and take the next one.
  3. If someone is following you, head to a crowded area; if someone moves uncomfortably close to you (e.g. someone deliberately stands or sits close to you in a bus or MRT), move away if possible.
  4. Avoid going out at night alone. If you have to, go out in a group or get someone (parent, close friend) to accompany you.
  5. Avoid letting your young children wander around alone, teach them to be wary and move away from strangers who try to get close to or touch them.
  6. Consider investing in a shrill alarm for you and your loved ones as they can come in handy to sound for help during emergencies.

XIAO DIDI SUDDENLY DASHED OUT ONTO ROAD WITHOUT LOOKING, GETS HIT BY VAN

A video emerged online showing an accident between a schoolboy and a van, after the former had inexplicably dashed out onto the road.

The van was seen approaching the zebra crossing and slowing down as it neared the hump when a schoolboy came running out of nowhere and onto the road.

The boy didn’t even look out for traffic and simply dashed full bloodedly across the road, catching the driver of the van by surprise.

The schoolboy was then hit by the van and flew backwards onto the ground, as the driver came out of his vehicle, appearing to check if his van had pinned anyone under.

Netizens’ comments

  • How could this have been the drivers fault? Surely the driver slowed down or the impact to the boy would have been worst.
The boy dashed out all of a sudden. No driver could have anticipated as the road was clear at that point.
  • Actually I think the driver did slow down at the zebra crossing, if never slow down I think the boy will be under the wheels already. The driver is kind enough to check on the boy and not check if his vehicle is damaged or not.
Some more why is the kid all alone and running across the zebra crossing? Where are the parents/guidance? Count the boy lucky to be still alive.
  • The boy dashed out is the root cause of the accident. Pedestrian crossing is stop look n cross. Not dash out to cross..
  • Obviously the boy fault, the van was already very slow though the video looks deceiving. The boy is very lucky, because if the van is travelling at high speed, he would be in heavens now. I once too dash without looking, just to chase bus when I’m at his age and indeed I was lucky to only being horn at.
  • Zebra crossing doesn’t mean the pedestrian is always in the right! I remembered when my school brought us to some enrichment class to learn how cross roads safely, we were taught to stand at the zebra crossing to make sure the incoming car comes to a stop, before we start to cross the zebra crossing.
  • Human vs car. Don’t be stupid la.

MAN THOUGHT HE SAW GUAN YIN MA IN THE SKY, THEN FIGHTS WITH STRANGER, JAILED

0

34-year-old Philip Ong Guo Xiang, was sentenced to 11 months and 2 weeks imprisonment on 27 September after fighting with a passer-by and assaulting his wife.

What happened?

Ong was with his 34-year-old wife near Block 206 Bedok North Street 1 on 28 September 2021, to buy a screen protector, and also to meet their social worker.

The couple were outside the social service office having a smoke break when they heard about the Chinese goddess Guan Yin Ma appearing in the sky, and they started taking photos.

A 62-year-old food delivery rider then passed by and asked them what they were doing, and Ong then told him that they were taking photos of Guan Yin Ma in the sky.

However, the rider couldn’t see any resemblance and called Ong a scammer, before taking photos of the couple and refusing to delete the photos after Ong told him to do so.

The rider then confronted and challenged Ong to a fight, and threatened to beat up the couple if they ever went to Geylang Lorong 20.

Ong then shoved the rider and kicked him in the knee, before a woman who passed by saw the incident and informed the police.

Attacked wife on numerous occasions

Among the other charges that Ong faced, he also pleaded guilty to punching his wife in the eye because he was not happy with her for oversleeping.

He also punched his wife during an argument over how they were going to split the $500 financial assistance that they had gotten from the social service office.

Throwing hot water at his wife because she had allegedly called him an “ah gua”, which the wife has denied; and accidentally hitting a woman in the arm with a traffic cone when he threw it at the wall because he was upset at not being able to find his TraceTogether token at Bedok Point.

Ong said that he had apologised to his wife and she had forgiven him, as he asked for a chance from the judge.
