A new two-lane, 250-metre stretch of road, called Sang Nila Utama Road, is set to be partially opened to traffic from 25 September, ad it will be replacing the existing Vernon Park Road in the Bidadari estate.

Sang Nila Utama Road, which is named after the Malay prince who founded Singapura in the year 1299, will have one lane in each direction initially.

By the time it is fully opened in the first half of 2024, it will have two lanes in each direction.

A new 250-metre Sang Nila Utama Road will be partially opened to traffic from Sunday, 25 Sep 2022 at 8:00am, with one lane in each direction. With the new road opening, the existing Vernon Park Road will be permanently closed to traffic. Sang Nila Utama Road is expected to open fully in the first half of 2024, with two lanes in each direction.

New Sang Nila Utama Road

2     To facilitate traffic towards Mount Vernon Road, the new Sang Nila Utama Road will link to Mount Vernon Lane and connect back to Mount Vernon Road. With the expunction of Vernon Park Road, motorists travelling from Upper Aljunied Road to Mount Vernon Road and vice versa are advised to use the route along the new Sang Nila Utama Road and Mount Vernon Lane.

3     Barricades, diversion signs and traffic controllers will be stationed to guide motorists. Motorists are advised to drive carefully and observe the information signs displayed. Please refer to the layout plan at Annex A for details on the road closure and diversion routes.

Commemorating Bidadari’s Heritage

4     The master plan for Bidadari was launched in August 2013. To preserve the rich heritage and memories of the estate, the former Upper Aljunied Road has been pedestrianised to become part of the new Heritage Walk. Working with the National Parks Board, the 700-metre Heritage Walk is lined with a canopy of mature trees and will have a series of storyboards to recount the history and stories of Bidadari’s rich heritage, including prominent personalities of the past.

5     In 2019, the Ministry of National Development and the Street and Building Names Board decided to name a new road in Bidadari estate as Sang Nila Utama Road, in tribute to the contributions of Sang Nila Utama. His arrival on our shores in 1299 marked the beginning of Singapore. Fittingly, the new Sang Nila Utama Road is located right next to the site of the former Sang Nila Utama Secondary School, one of the first two Malay-medium secondary schools in Singapore, which played an important role in developing Malay education in Singapore. Additionally, a section of the Heritage Walk will also be named Sang Nila Utama Boulevard.

6     Other heritage elements in Bidadari include the Alkaff Lake, which seeks to recreate the memories of the former Alkaff Lake Gardens built by the well-known Alkaff family, as well as a memorial garden to commemorate the heritage of the former Bidadari Cemetery and prominent pioneers who were buried there.

7     With the plans for Bidadari being progressively realised, residents can look forward to living in an estate with a rich heritage and strong sense of identity.

Facebook user KT Ram shared on Facebook that she placed an order with a company called Nordic Space via the Atome app but felt suspicious of the company.

So she contacted Atome and asked if they could “hold” her remaining payments, but her payments continued to be sent to Nordic Space.

She added that “now I have fully paid for the items and received nothing.”

Here is what she said

I was browsing Atome app and chanced upon Nordic Space. I placed an order on 12 May 2022. On 23 May, I wanted to check on my delivery status, however the website link on Atome app became a dead link. I felt suspicious of the Company and quickly alerted Atome on this and requested if they could hold on to my balance 2 payments. However, they replied me that they would investigate on this.

3 months down, I have sent at least 10 emails to Atome to check on my order. They not only did not hold my payment and continued to pay to Nordic Space (despite my warning of Scam), each reply is ‘we need more time to check.’

Their customer service is totally unhelpful and have no sense of urgency to this matter. They could have prevented me from losing more $ if they have stopped my balance payments as alerted in May. Now I have fully paid for the items and received nothing.

Don’t Atome has a responsibility to scan through the list of merchants before placing them on their company platform? We ordered from Nordic Space because we believe they are authentic since they are on Atome app.

Former lawyer Nicholas Yeo Shao Yi pleaded guilty to 2 counts of voyeurism and was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment, with another 2 charges of criminal trespass being considered during his sentencing.

He had filmed his neighbour showering on multiple occasions and told the investigating officers that he did so because he was feeling stressed from being a lawyer, as well as the pressure he felt from the circuit breaker.

What happened?

Yeo and the victim lived in terrace houses that shared a wall, with the victim’s master bedroom having a toilet that was overlooking a small balcony.

On 23 November 2020, at about 7pm, the victim was showing while playing videos on her phone, a habit that the former lawyer was familiar with.

He then proceeded to climb out of his window upon hearing the sound and climbed over the parapet that linked his house to the victim’s balcony to film her.

The victim then saw Yeo’s arm through the open window, holding onto an iPhone while she was drying herself after the shower.

She then shouted and Yeo then escaped the scene, climbing the wall that divided their two balconies – the victim told her husband about what happened and they then went to confront Yeo.

The former lawyer then repeatedly apologised and asked them to lower their voices, before asking if they could resolve the matter any other way or talk elsewhere.

Yeo then offered them to check his phone and they didn’t find anything, but the victim decided to call the police anyway.

The voyeuristic lawyer then confessed to officers that he had filmed the victim in the shower a few months ago but deleted the footage.

He told them that he did so to relieve the “work-related” stress that he was going through due to his lawyer job and the circuit breaker at the time.

Yeo’s electronic devices were then examined by investigators, who didn’t find any other such content.

HOME RECOVERY PROGRAMME FOR MONKEYPOX CASES

 19TH AUG 2022

From 22 August 2022, monkeypox cases will be able to recover safely at their place of residence under the Home Recovery Programme (HRP), if they are assessed to be clinically stable by a doctor and their place of residence is suitable for home recovery. Cases assessed to be at higher risk of complications will continue to be managed in hospitals.

2.             All confirmed cases will be issued with an Isolation Order and are required under the Infectious Diseases Act to remain isolated until they are medically assessed to be non-infectious.

3.             Local and international data continues to show that monkeypox is typically a mild and self-limiting illness where the majority of patients recover within two to four weeks without requiring hospitalisation. As the transmission of monkeypox requires close physical or prolonged contact, including face-to-face and skin-to-skin contact such as s—-l contact, the risk to the general public remains low.

4.             Currently, all confirmed cases assessed by public hospitals to be clinically stable recover with telemedicine support at a Monkeypox Isolation Facility (MIF). From 22 August 2022, confirmed cases may recover at home with telemedicine support if they are assessed to be clinically stable by a doctor and their place of residence is deemed suitable by the Ministry of Health (MOH) for fulfilling the following conditions:

a.    The case can self-isolate in a bedroom with an attached bathroom, and there is an additional bathroom for other household members’ use.

b.    None of the other household members are (i) pregnant; (ii) children aged below 12 years; (iii) seniors aged 80 years and above; (iv) individuals who are undergoing dialysis, immunocompromised or on immunosuppressants; or (vi) individuals at higher risk of being infected (e.g. with caregiving needs).

c.     There are no pets at home. This is to avoid any animal-to-human transmission which may occur when an animal contracts monkeypox from an infected person and then spreads to other persons through bites, scratches or through direct contract with skin, mucosa, blood, and bodily fluids.

5.             Cases may continue to recover in the MIF if their place of residence is not suitable for home recovery.

6.             Cases on HRP will receive regular telemedical consultations to assess their state of recovery, and may be conveyed to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) for additional reviews if necessary. They can also call a dedicated MOH hotline if they require any assistance during the period of recovery. In the event that cases experience any shortness of breath, chest pains, severe headaches, stiff neck, changes in mental state (e.g. mood, behaviour), or unusual symptoms with their nerves (e.g. numbness, weakness, changes in speech or vision, abnormal movement of the arms or legs), they should call 995 immediately and inform the operator that they are monkeypox patients.

7.             At the end of the isolation period, cases will be conveyed to NCID to undergo a discharge review. If they are medically assessed to have fully recovered, they will be able to exit isolation. If they have not recovered, they will continue to be isolated until the next appointed discharge review.

8.             In line with the shift to home recovery, suspect monkeypox cases who are assessed to be clinically well will no longer be required to isolate in the hospital while awaiting their test results. They may instead isolate themselves at home if they are able to do so. Those who are unable to self-isolate in their home will be isolated at an isolation facility while awaiting their test results. Suspect cases who are assessed to require admission for clinical care will continue to be managed in hospitals.

9.             MOH will continue to monitor the monkeypox situation closely and calibrate our preparedness and response measures as needed. Members of the public are encouraged to exercise personal responsibility by monitoring their personal health, maintaining good hygiene, and avoiding high-risk activities, such as having multiple partners or casual intercourse, especially during travel. They should also avoid close contact with individuals known or suspected to have monkeypox infection.
