WOMAN FEELS THAT CAR DEALERS ARE ALWAYS TALKING TO MEN INSTEAD OF WOMEN

0

I tried posting on legal advice but it said only trusted people can post… and I’m not sure where else to put it, but I’m guessing some of you have gone through similar shit…

My husband and I each had our own cars when we got married. His car sucked. Mine is fairly reliable but pretty old. I have a 40-minute commute to work and he works down the road, so we decided to trade in his car and get a new one for me, and he’d start driving mine.

I got approved for a loan from my bank and added my husband to it because he has little credit history right now. thought it would just help his credit score over time.

We went to a used car dealership. My husband knows nothing about cars, I did all the talking. But the salesmen responded to every one of my questions by talking to my husband. We found a car with less than 100k mileage with a solid maintenance history for a good price.

He had my husband sign the paperwork. We asked about it, and he said as long as we’re both on the loan, it doesn’t matter who signs the purchase agreement. No problem, I thought.

We go to the bank and get a check for the dealer; it only has my husband’s name.

We purchased the car, and he only had my husband sign the paperwork. He tells us that we will both be on the title when it comes in the mail. Three weeks later, the title comes out, and it just has his name.

We go to SOS and they tell us they can’t add me to the title without the banks permission. Okay, makes sense, we go to the bank and ask to have me added.

They tell us the title cannot be changed until the loan is paid off.

I understand that we’re married and share property and all that, but why is it that I can’t be added to the title of a car that we bought for me? I’m the one that took out the loan. We added him as an afterthought because his credit history is practically empty. He never even set foot in the bank during this; they just called him to verify some information.

Every step of the way, I was told I’d be in the title. I have no idea why I can’t be added, and the bank refused to give me a reason. It’s just that it can’t be modified until the loan is paid off. Is there anything I can do, or is this just how stuff works? Ever since we got married, I’ve been treated as “less than” my husband when getting insurance, paying for HDB etc, and it’s just kind of disheartening.

DAUGHTER MAKES IT BIG INVESTING STOCKS, BUT MOTHER THINKS IT’S NOT A REAL JOB

0

I (F25) graduated from a prestigious university. During my second year in university, my dad died from stomach cancer. It was tough for my family.

All of the time, I wanted him to die because we suffered from his hands and when he did, I just felt lost. I struggled with my studies, failed some of my courses, and was delayed for one year until I graduated last year.

I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I don’t have the will to start looking for a job because I know I can’t handle the mental torment of being in one.

But I knew I needed a livelihood, so when I was still a student, I invested my allowances on stocks. Up to this point, I am receiving quarterly dividends.

I already have an immense amount of savings that helped me buy my condominium and let me live a life that is above-average. It also gave me the capacity to send my mom’s allowance every month.

This kind of life also helped me pursue my dream of being a novel writer.

My mom, on the other hand, disagrees with my way of living. She told me to look for a real job. She asked me why I studied for my bachelor’s if I won’t use it.

I told her about my stock dividends, and she said that I can’t rely on them all the time.

I showed her my savings, my emergency funds, my retirement savings, and my health insurance. She was shocked at first but still insists that I look for a stable job.

I know my mother means well, but I know she’s embarrassed by me not having a title job, unlike my older siblings who are an accountant and a chemist. When there are gatherings, she also loves to talk about my older sisters’ success in their work fields. I know I’m embarrassing her because the one who she hoped to be the most successful doesn’t have a decent job. I also feel bad.

LTA CONDUCTS CHECKS ON ILLEGAL MODIFICATIONS ON VEHICLES

0

Together with the Traffic Police, our enforcement officers carried out checks at several locations from the eve of National Day to deter vehicle-related offences.

On LTA’s end, we were on the lookout for illegal modifications such as having non-compliant exhaust pipes, overly-tinted windows, and modified lighting systems (e.g. installation of strobe lights). These vehicular modifications not only endanger the drivers but also pose a risk to other road users.

Road Blocks

Roadblocks such as these are conducted by TP and LTA to detect vehicle-related offences.

Checking on a group of cars at Stadium Boulevard for illegal modifications. A total of 35 vehicles were booked for vehicle related offences such as illegal exhaust modifications, tinted windows and number plates.

Officers stopped a van at a roadblock for various illegal modifications such as an unapproved front lamp, sunshade and protruding spoiler.

This motorcycle was suspected to be installed with an illegally-modified exhaust and was escorted by our officer to the inspection centre for further checks.

This vehicle was booked for illegal exhaust modification. Tampering with the exhaust system may adversely affect the road worthiness and compromise the safety of the driver, passengers and other road users.

#Reminder Do not carry out illegal modifications to your vehicle and do your part in keeping our roads safe for everyone. #BeSafeNotSorry

WOMAN TRIES TO SELL $8K “SELF DEVELOPMENT COURSE” TO JOBLESS FRIEND

0

Few years back, I was jobless for a good 18months. Money was very tight and I was nearing broke!

However, I still managed to hit the gym as my health was a priority. My friend wanted to accompany me. I was more than glad to welcome her to my space! So we went to the gym on a Sunday and attended class.

After which, she asked to take a break and fill up water. So we were drinking and just resting out in between sessions. And she pulls out another of her stunt. Says she wants to talk to me about something important.

She starts preaching to me about the importance of self development bla bla. And shares about this course she’s doing and how it has helped her heal trauma as a kid from a kindergarten friend who didnt want to befriend her.

Long story short, she insisted that I attend this $5-$8k++ course. And make a downpayment of over $2k. Mind you, she jolly well knows that I was jobless and broke and trying to find a job. I flat out told her I cannot at this point as I dont have the money. And I was saving up to buy a laptop for job hunting.

Instead of sympathy, she scolded me for not wanting to invest in myself with the course. And saying why I cant even part with only $2k downpayment for it! I told her I’ll consider it down the line when I have more money, but at this point, I can’t as I dont have the money.

So, the gym session was just a pretext for her to sell me to buy into this program she was doing.

Fast forward 3-4 weeks later, she asks to meet up for dinner. We agreed on eating at the food court, cos I was down to my last hundred dollars or so. Ok. When we met at the meeting point at the mall, she was with a group of friends from this “program” she was enrolled into. I thought they were on their separate ways.. but alas! This entire group of strangers to me was there to accompany us on dinner! And she feigned igorance. One of the girl in the group started introducing herself to me and then asked where I wanted to have dinner!?

I was confused and look at my friend but she just acted dumb. But I was blowing up mentally, so I said huh!? I thought it’s just 2 of us having dinner!?? So I told my friend its okay you guys can go ahead, I will meet you another time then.

Then the group decided it’s ok I can have dinner solo with my friend, and then we can join them after. (No, thank you!).

Later on, I found out this group was from her “course program”. They needed to each recruit 5-7 people to sign up for the course. This friend of mine on the pretext of meeting me alone for dinner, actually thought I’d chin-chai and give in and join them for dinner to talk me into signing up for the course.

So, what do you think? How do I carry on with this friendship? I dont want to rock the boat cos I do value the 20yr friendship, but also, I feel I’ve been thrown under the bus twice now already.

Did I say? For her recent birthday, I spent $200+ on dinner with her.. wine and all.. but for mine, she gave me a bag of chips from the $1 store??

Mind you, she earns well $5-$6k and has little/ no financial obligations from what I know.
