WOMAN ASKED FOR $100 PAY INCREASE, JOB INTERVIEWER GOT ANGRY & FELT “INSULTED”

0

Went for an interview, one of the interviewers got really insulted that I negotiated for a slight increase.

I want a second opinion on this, so I wanted to share the full story of what actually happened.

I went for an interview for a job that was paying between 2.3 – 2.5k it was a 5.5 day job that was opened for people with ‘no experience’.

I was quite excited about it and applied for the job, fast forward later I got a video interview. The video interview went well enough.

What I learned about the job was it was a ‘family business’ and the interviewer (daughter) love highlighting the fact that their business paid better compared to other businesses and they had really long term workers who worked for them. Sounded good I thought. I said goodbye to the interviewer and looked forward to hearing again from her.

Few days passed and I got a message to have a face to face appointment with another lady (mother), I accepted it, of course. I went there and learn the ins-and-outs of working there. It went well enough and there wasn’t anything else to say about it other than the fact again, this older lady keeps highlighting the fact that their business paid more compared to other companies.

After the tour we had a face to face to talk about certain expectations for the job, questions, and things like that. So first thing was ‘notice period’, I was currently a part time teacher, and I said my job, I need to give a months notice. The lady told me “but part timers are usually 3 weeks notice, not one” So I said, okay but the fact is I did check with my colleagues prior to this and they too agreed it was one month. I said to her, I will check with my boss again for confirmation.

After a few more questions and conversation, I brought up the issue of salary. As it was a 5.5 day job, I wanted to try negotiating a salary of 2.4 instead of the 2.3k, I asked if it was okay to have a salary of 2.4k instead or is 2.3k a fixed amount?, and she mentioned that because I had no experience in said job, I couldn’t request for that amount. I just agreed, and didn’t say much about it.

So she was friendly throughout everything and I thought things went well for the time, I never got the vibe that anything was wrong.

Few days later I got a message from the original interviewer (daughter) that told me ‘I was the only candidate that never provided a notice period’ and until I could provide a notice period and copy of my current job, I would not be considered. So I went to collect and shared my current contract that stipulated it was a ‘1 month’ notice period, like I mentioned before.

Few days later I got a message saying she wanted to talk to me again, and I agreed. When she called me in the evening I was honestly very shocked by her tone. She sounded so angry at me like I did something wrong. She started with “What exactly did you say to make them so unhappy”. I explained my situation, I did not say anything that was untoward and I apologize profusely in case I did say anything wrong.

Apparently she explained that asking for the salary increase had made then leave a bad impression of me, lady(mom) who was on a face to face interview with me had let the others know about me negotiating about the pay increase. According to her, they were really unhappy and said things like “they are just a part timer with no experience, not even a full timer and still asking for 2.4k” and also the fact I couldn’t bring up my current job contract/notice (Again, please note I have mentioned my notice period during the interview originally)

I was honestly shock at how they reacted. I had to explain to her what exactly I had said and how I did not argue for the salary or anything, that I was fine with the current pay after her explanation. She had told me she will have to have a discussion with the rest and if I got rejected/accepted she will let me know.

Anyways last night, I decided to withdrew from the job application. I felt it wasn’t worth the headache to go through such a thing during the interview period. If they were acting this way and talking shit behind your back for the interview, why should I try to stay?

For the record though, i would like to mention my previous full time jobs were 2.5k and they were 5 day jobs. This particular one wanted to pay 2.3k for a 5.5 day job. Also most of the job interviews I went to have never asked to see my current job contract, so I was also abit taken aback by the request.

Was I in the wrong? I just wanted to get this off my chest cause it was really bothering me last night. I would appreciate a 2nd opinion.

Edit: Since everyone seems to be curious, I was applying for a job related to healthcare.

Netizens’ comments

  • No you’re not wrong. They’re cheapskate and it‘s a family business, please run
  • dodged a bullet. as much as they’re interviewing you, you’re interviewing them too. i think you did right by yourself by withdrawing your application. if they treat you like this even before you’re an actual employee, imagine the headache when you’re under their payroll.
  • Family SMEs are like worst of the lot, glad that you withdrew your application. If they cannot even give you an additional $100 pay bump for the 0.5 extra day of work, imaging negotiating for leave/mc/and etc

MAN JAILED 24 YEARS & GIVEN 24 STROKES OF ROTAN AFTER RAPING 14 Y.O DAUGHTER

0

A man was sentenced to jail after he took advantage of his daughter while his wife was not around.

On Monday (Aug. 8), the accused was sentenced to 24 years in prison and the statutory maximum of 24 cane strokes.

A gag order has been issued to protect the identity of his daughter, therefore the father and his biological daughter cannot be named.

Background

According to CNA, the father began his crime on his daughter in May 2019 and continued for many months.

The victim kept quiet every time his father did it to her by pretending to be asleep and after committing it on several different occasions he was finally caught.

His wife entered the daughter’s room and saw that the accused was not wearing any clothes on the lower half of his body.

The wife hit him and the noise woke up his other daughter who was asleep in the same room.

After the incident came to light, the victim revealed that she did not want to report her father’s assault as the family depended on him and needed his father to pay for his mother’s cancer treatment.

The family then made arrangements for the daughters to sleep in the same room as their brother.

The assault did not stop

Even after moving the daughters to their brother’s room, the assault did not stop.

While the mother was away in the hospital, the father tried to do it again but he was alarmed after his son sneezed.

The victim informed her mother about the incident and the mother had to take action against her husband, the incident was eventually reported to the Police and the mother applied a personal protection order to protect her children.

The mother later died from an illness.

FT KICKED POLICEMAN IN THE GROIN WHILE BEING ARRESTED FOR HARASSING PEOPLE @ SEMBAWANG

35-year-old Mongolian, Boldbaatar Odonchimeg, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant and another count under the Protection from Harassment Act.

She was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment on 8 August, and was also fined $3,000 for her misdemeanours that happened last year.

She had kicked a policeman in his groin while she was being arrested for harassing customers at a Sembawang Road coffeeshop.

What happened?

The incident(s) happened on 6 December last year at about 8.45pm, Boldbataar was harassing the customers of a coffeeshop and a staff member then called the police.

She was drunk and behaving rowdily when the police officers arrived at the scene.

They (the police officers) got her to leave the coffee shop and she was then arrested and handcuffed, as she continued to act aggressively to passers-by.

Senior Staff Sergeant Dhanaletchmi Kuppusamy and her colleague, Corporal Muhammad Islam Angullia Yussoff then arrived at the scene to escort Boldbaatar to Woodlands Division Police Headquarters.

Throughout the journey to the police HQ, she kept struggling and behaved very aggressively towards the police officers and even refused to exit the police car after they reached the police complex.

She was then brought to the Covid testing area where she started crying and refused to sign a consent form, and no test was then done on her.

Boldbaatar continued to resist and shout, and she used vulgarities on Senior Staff Sergeant Dhana and another police officer who tried to make her sit down.

She was then taken to the lock-up where Senior Staff Sergeant Dhana uncuffed one of her hands so that she could handcuff her to a metal bar that was attached to the wall.

She continued resisting throughout and Corporal Islam and other officers then went to restrain her, and she then kicked Corporal Islam in his groin.

Despite being kicked in the groin and in pain, he continued to restrain Boldbaatar and she was eventually put in a wheelchair.

He then sought medical treatment at a hospital where he was given 2 days of medical leave.

SON RANTS ABOUT HIS MOTHER WHO TAKES HIS MONEY AND DOES LITTLE HOUSEWORK

0

Dear Housewifes you only got 1 job.

While I leave the house at 0630 to work and only reach back at 2100 every day to earn money to give you 1.3k a month for “filial piety”.

You wake up at 0800 every day, put the so very limited amount of laundry into the washing machine, since we are just a family of 3 fully grown adults, watch an hour of drama while eating breakfast, sweep and mop the house while watching another hour of drama, hang the clothes, go out jalan jalan with your friends settle lunch outside for like 4 hours or watch more drama, buy groceries downstairs to cook dinner for you and your husband, then continue to watch drama.

But somehow I have to do all the dinner dishes? Dinner which I don’t eat. Somehow I have to settle our lunch and dinner on the weekend cos you need breakdays? effing hell your whole week is slacking 70% of the time, you complete 3 drama series a week!

Do your effing job!!!!

Here are what netizens think:

  • If you are refering to ur wife u need to have a good talk with her. My wife is a housewife too, all the household expense and her allowance are on me. Don’t say things like if she go work she can earn more den the allowance we gif. Lidat guys also can say ask her go work and get a maid we still can save more. This is mutual understanding. Unless u have kids den maybe different story or u living in a huge mansion if not honestly how tough can house chores be. I have no kids but have 3 dogs at home my wife still have the time to watch drama and go shopping.
  • If your mother had taken care of you for over 20 years, you want to be calculative with her over chores? Wow. Wait till you reach her age. See you got the energy or not. Its time for her to relax a bit because you’re all grown up. If you ever breed, don’t even think about passing your babies for her to take care. If you want to define being a housewife’s duties as work, she’s at her workplace 24/7. She’s on call 24/7. Try being in the office 24/7, being on call 24/7. See if you’re mentally tired. You obviously are not mature enough and lack empathy and appreciation for your mother for bringing you up. She should have swallowed you. And hello you also stay in the same home, the chore must have connection to you then you can do is it? Your mother didn’t draw line with you last time now you want to draw line in the house? Selfish. Pity your future wife.
  • Rather then cursing your spouse or two other grown up in the house , which is the root cause of many house dispute, talk to them in a calm manner and air your grivences and then listen to their daily routine. Be a man and communicate and dont manage your house like a work place.

GIRL HATES SPENDING MONEY & GOING OUT WITH FRIENDS WHO SPEND $20+ ON MEALS

0

Don’t enjoy going for expensive meals with friends

I’ve always been earning lesser than my group of friends and am a simple eater. Before my financial commitments started I kept quiet about shelling out more cash just so I can spend them with them.

Now that my financials are tighter, I really don’t enjoy spending so much on meals ($20/pax to me is extravagant but they go way more).

I don’t drink so sometimes they remember to minus my share (if I ask), I’ve been declining going for gathering because I simply don’t enjoy the spending.

The conversation topics are boring too — usually gossiping about people. Or money things (cars, property, etc). They also like to stay out late whereas I like to be home by 10 and slowly go to bed early.

These are good friends whom I know will be there for me if I’m ever in a difficult situation. But I don’t enjoy spending time (and money!) with them.

What should I do? Sigh.

And one piece of chopped cucumber.

Here is what he said

Yishun outlet 925 chicken rice $3.50 give this few pic chicken now chicken expensive lol 4 tiny slices

Netizens’ comments

  • This shop now no standard ask for chicken breast give chicken tail more and more no standard chicken also few piece got name already but anyhow never maintain the standard.
  • Same to me.. I pay $5/- for drumstick and given me these same as photos.. I was very angry and disappointed.. Stop buying 925 chicken rice ..
  • Actually raw chicken price went up 3 times within a month. So can’t blame them
  • Although chicken prices have increased, this could be considered as pure profiteering. Let market forces decide on their business volume
  • Nothing to do w chicken price. Standard alr like that months ago. We stopped buying from them

WOMAN ACCUSES FAMILY OF STEALING HER MONEY, AFTER OVER $700 GONE MISSING

0

So I (19F) am back home from school and I live with my mother, brother (30M), and boyfriend (22M). My birthday was a few days ago and I received around $600 in cash.

I keep a loose inventory of cash around in case I ever need it for emergencies. I went to count my money, which should’ve been around $1,700, but noticed there was less than $1,000. I have only taken $100 out of it once, as it’s only for emergencies.

For context: No one comes over to my house, even on holidays, my family is all very introverted. Plus, it was relatively well hidden so someone had to have been snooping pretty intensely to find it.

I sent a text to my brother asking if he knew/ heard anything about it, really just making him aware that I was missing this money and I also included in the text that I did not even think it was him. I didn’t ask my mom yet as she was still sleeping. and the times I have counted the money where when I left for schoond when I came back, so it couldn’t have been my boyfriend, who goes to the same school as me.

An hour later my brother asks my mom about it and she freaks out, begins slamming doors and telling me and my bf to stay somewhere else, and that she can’t believe I would accuse either once of them of stealing money from me.

I honestly thought that maybe one of them could’ve just borrowed some money and forgot to tell me, but I feel like I said the wrong thing and made my family extremely upset as now they’re both texting me telling me how disappointed they are in me and how they are also upset that I left after they told me to.

Now my mom is telling me she should’ve charged me for summer rent and can take a couple thousand out of my bank account, and I’m really worried to close the account because I feel like it will only make this even more tense, when really I just want it to be over with.

WOMAN ASKED IF SHE IS PREGNANT AFTER GAINING SOME WEIGHT

0

Pls be nice:) To preface my story, I work at a clinic and I’m just doing reception while I look for private uni schools to attend next year. I LOVE to wear dresses, skirts and frilly slacks. Nothing weird just on the fancier side. Today I was wearing a simple black top with a floral maxi skirt.

After my lunch, I went to the coffeshop to get more water and one of the cooks shouts across saying “are you pregnant?” I’m horrified! But I still managed to recover and respond light-heartedly saying “no but I did just eat lunch so I might just be bloated”.

No big deal right? No, this woman responds with ” no way.. you are small but can’t keep that belly a secret.

“You should come here and let me pet that baby” and the only other staff that was there was a woman who follows that saying “omg she’s definitely gonna be like, I have to toss this outfit now”.

Both of them are laughing it off and im just like defending myself between saying no I would know if I was pregnant, thanks.

Here’s what I am struggling with. I know the world is mean, and I might be a tad insecure about my body since I just gained 3kg from my the holidays but I can’t shake off her comments.

I wish I was making this up. I’m 154cm and 53kg. Im scrambling in my brain trying to find the audacity of this older woman that literally harassed me even though It wasn’t a mistake imo.

Although i know my belly grows outward a little and i have been asked if i was prego before I got fit, I still feel just defeated.

How do I not let her comment get to me?? How do I not let this send me into another dark year of body dismorphia?? Any advice would be amazing!!

MAN EARNING $10K/MONTH, SAYS IT TOOK HIM 12 YEARS TO REACH THAT LEVEL

0

A lot of people seem to earn more than 10k. I’m curious what these high-earners do and how long it took for them to get there. Would love to hear from those of you that earn 5 digits!

Fyi median personal income in Singapore is about $5877.

Even then, there is much more to life than financial success. Your physical and mental health, relationships etc. are all equally big wins that I argue are worth significantly more than 10k/mth.

Netizens’ comments

  1. Took me 12 years to reach 10k
I’m a PMET working in MNCs. I worked across manufacturing, automotive, logistics, medical cos my skillset is very versatile
I really think 10k is not difficult to hit these days. As long as you are working in MNCs and you are making regular job hops with like 20-30% every 2-3 years, you will reach 10k in 10 years time. If you are in industries that are very profitable or exceptionally hot skillsets, I’m very sure u will reach there faster
  2. I reached 10k at 31. In the finance industry working in an IT role. Currently 33 making about 13k.
So that’s about 7-8 years since graduation to reach 5digit.
Honestly my lifestyle hasn’t change since the days I started at 3k salary. Just got my bto after waiting 5 years so a household income of about 20k is really quite comfortable when both our lifestyles are unchanged and living hdb. The only difference is, buy things don’t need think so much lor.. Parents get a few k each month.. Renovation just buy what I like. Nothing much is different. I still like to wear my army tee, shorts and slippers out. Hawker centre and cook at home mostly. And spare time is spent on ps5 and jogs at night
  3. started as IT support in an investment bank for 5.5k. got retrenched after 2 years and moved to an investment firm as a junior research analyst – 7k. took another 2 years to get to 10k. in my 11th year as a senior research analyst. makes about 500k a year now. have a degree in comp sci.

GIRL BECAME 2ND CHOICE AFTER MAN PUTS HER OFF & WENT AFTER A MODEL

0

All of a sudden this man I have known for a while is interested in me. He has been in my outer circle for a long while and is my cousin’s husband’s friend.

A long time ago (when I was 23), my cousin actually introduced me, thinking we would make a good match.

I had zero expectations but was put off by his demeanour as he took one look at me with a scowl on his face and resumed the conversation he was having with someone else…leaving my cousin and me to stand there.

Years later I would hear comments from my cousin about how he is “chasing some model and is 100% sure he will get her.” Well, he clearly hasn’t.

After that, I used to see him on dating apps but never swiped right due to the negative first impression I had of him.

His dating app bio also seemed very superficial, “I am tall, fit and fun.”

Anyways, lately, I have caught him staring at me during events and he even came up to say hi.

ut I still can’t shake the feeling that he has run out of good options and decided to try his second choice/s, a.k.a. me. My cousin’s husband is practically begging me to give him a chance, saying he has ‘changed.’

I am afraid my self-esteem won’t let me go there but has anyone given someone a second chance that turned out ok?
