ANG MOH NOT HAPPY BECAUSE SHE WAS TOLD TO “WAIT AWHILE” AT S’PORE CLINIC

TikTok user @alisoninasia shared on her page about how she was offended when she was told to “wait a while” at a Singapore clinic.

She said then when she first moved to Singapore, there was a phrase that really confused her – she was checking in at a clinic when the receptionist told her to “wait a while”.

Unfamiliar with the colloquial lingo, she was offended and thought the receptionist was being rude by telling her to wait a while.

However, she later learned that “wait a while” in Singapore means “wait a minute” or “wait a few seconds,” before adding that Singaporeans are not being rude by telling you to wait a while.

Netizens comments

  • Wait how is “wait a while” rude?
    • Because in customer service you don’t order someone to wait, you ask them to politely and apologise for the delay. Also, in US/UK to be waiting a ‘while’ means a long time. So to be ordered to wait a while is pretty rude in UK and US.
That being said, I’ve been living here for about a year and this woman with her ‘I’m such a special tourist’ attitude is embarrassing to watch
  • nothing wrong in what she said, as she explained, the word has different meaning in her country, “awhile” means a long duration in her country thats why she made this video to clarify
  • awhile
    /əˈwʌɪl/
    adverb
    for a short time.
    “stand here awhile”

    for a while

GUY DIDN’T KNOW GF WAS MARRIED, CALLED HER & HUSBAND PICKED UP

0

I found out my girlfriend is married.

I found out when I called her cell and a man answered. I was super confused and double-checked the number and asked who it was and he said it was her husband his name and she was busy.

I accidentally yelled out loud and sighed then told him we’d been seeing each other and not once did she mention she had a husband and she never had a ring on.

I apologized profusely and told him that I had no idea and we would not be seeing each other anymore.

The poor guy was obviously crushed and angry at first but he understood and believed I didn’t know.

I told him again how sorry I was especially that he found out like this and told him to feel free to tell her she and I are done when they talk and we cut the conversation short.

Later she started blowing up my phone with calls and I didn’t answer. She texted me and was legitimately angry I told her husband.

I texted her back and told her she and I were done and what she did is scummy and blocked her number.

I know I did the right thing and that because I didn’t know none of this is my fault but I still feel like shit.

We’d only been dating for about a month but it still sucks. I just met her at a bar and we’ve hooked up at my place exclusively because her “roommate works early and needs sleep”

she also never stayed the night because she needed her “sleep apnea mask at home” God I’m such a moron.

The entire act was captured on the CCTV of one of the resident’s home, with the netizen who posted the video saying:

“My ah ma’s panties missing, please help.”

MAID BORROWED MONEY FROM LOAN SHARKS, GAVE EMPLOYER’S NUMBER & ADDRESS

Anyone here been harassed by a loanshark before?

Domestic helper took loans from multiple loansharks, in the process gave them my parents’ mobile numbers and our home address.

My parents replied to the loansharks’ messages initially, but after a while ignored them. The loansharks then started calling them, which they ignored as well.

Not sure what else to do now (we have made a police report), or what to expect.

An ah beng friend says we have to be prepared to endure ah long harassment from runners for the next 1-2 years – is this true?

Netizens’ comments

  • Let the police handle it. Install CCTV at your door incase they splash paint on your door etc…
  • The loan quantum should not be that high, possibly few hundred or low thousands. Thus unlikely these are “big time” loan sharks, probably just small potato types that use low cost harassment methods.
After making police report, nothing else you can do, maybe can consider changing your phone number, after a while it will stop as they r not getting any additional money and so not worth their effort to harass. |
Is your helper still going to repay them? I read from another forum of a ballsy employer who talked to the loan sharks and manage the helper’s payment plan, every month make sure the helper’s salary go direct to the loan shark to repay lol

POLICE INVESTIGATING HWA CHONG INSTITUTION’S ANTI-LGBT PRESENTATION

0

The Singapore Police Force confirmed that they are investigating a discriminatory and anti-LGBT+ education talk given to students from Hwa Chong Institution by a school counsellor.

The police confirmed on 22 July that they were following up on reports made, but stopped short of divulging who made the reports and what laws have been breached.

The school counsellor has also been suspended by the school and reprimanded, and HCI added that his presentation was not approved by the school.

Recap

A photo emerged online showing discriminatory remarks being made against the LGBTQ community in Singapore during a school assembly session.

The photo shows a slide pertaining to “community health”, with the header “what are LGBT so proud of? emblazoned at the top of the slide.

Prejudices against LGBT community

The slide displayed prejudices against those from the LGBTQ community, with statements such as “33% of homosexuals have problems with alcohol”, and “33% of homosexuals are pedophiles and rapists”.

Hwa Chong Institution

According to Instagram user @heckin.unicorn, the school in question is Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), as the netizen provided evidence that the photo was taken from HCI.

They identified the school’s logo on the podium stand and compared it against another photo taken at an event that happened earlier in May.

Principal to address students

To further corroborate the allegations against the school, a message was also purportedly disseminated to the secondary 4 students addressing the issue.

The message was from “Mr Pang, Ms Lim and Mrs Chin”, who thanked the students for their feedback and concerns relating to the assembly in question.

They said that the school takes a serious view of the matter and that the principal will be addressing the entire cohort on Monday (18 July).

According to inside sources, the presentation was not vetted by the school and was presented solely by the school counsellor, with no external organisations involved.

Email to the students

“Dear Sec 4 Students,

Thank you for your feedback and concerns with regard to Wednesdays assembly session. We appreciate your comments and reflections, and for reaching out to us directly.

The school takes a serious view of the matter. Principal Mr Pang and the school leaders will be addressing the entire Sec 4 cohort next Monday (18 Jul).

Please report to the the High School Auditorium at 7.30am for the morning flag-raising, followed by the session. You need not report to the school terraces.

Should you have any queries, please feel free to reach out to the School Leaders or your Consortium Director directly. We look forward to the engagement session on Monday. Have a good weekend ahead.

Best regards, Mr Pang, Ms Lim and Mrs Chin”

ENGAGED COUPLE MONTHS AWAY FROM WEDDING, ARGUING EVERY WEEK

0

Me (33M) and my fiance (32F) are less than 3 months from the wedding and we are at a breaking point
TLDR; 3 months from wedding and we have really bad arguments every 1-2 weeks.

We’ve been living together about 7 months and have a wedding in less then 3 months. Been a couple for just under 3 years.

The first year of our relationship felt nearly perfect. But then we had our first big fight, which was my fault. I was in regular contact text contact with a close female friend who I had known for 7 years.

This friend was someone who had helped me a lot over the years, and was struggling with her mental health and I was on her short list of contact for her therapist in case of emergencies.

My finace knew about this friend, but she didn’t know that we had tried to date for about 2 months (3 years prior), and after it not working out because we had zero romantic compatibility we decided to stay friends.

When she found out that I had dated this friend she exploded, and said she didn’t want any ex’s in my life and that I need to cut contact immediately. I tried to explain that neither of us had romantic feelings for each other, but she basically said I need to chose between the two of them.

So I chose my fiance and told the friend that we shouldn’t be talking anymore. I accepted responsibility for this mistake and agreed that I shouldn’t have been hiding this situation from her. (Was this the right thing to do?)

After cutting off the friend, she was still angry with me for 6 months, often blowing up over small things and yelling at me for hours.

I don’t like confrontation and arguments and for most of this time I just tried to disarm the situation and move on. But often she would escalate any disagreement into a shouting match in an attempt for me to agree with what she says.

It got so absurd that one time I was making fresh coffee in the morning, because I know she loves coffee, and she got mad at me because I didn’t ask her first if she wanted to out to get coffee. There’s no reason we couldn’t have just went and gotten coffee…

Anyway, there were a lot of blowups like this for months, then things seemed to get better for a couple months and I thought we had worked through the issue. I was still very optimistic about our life together, I thought we were returning to the way things were in the first year.

A couple months after engagement we were on an international trip together and she started a fight over something that wasn’t true. I kept pointing out that it wasn’t true but she insisted until it turned into a huge fight and she said she was going to take the next flight out and leave me. I was devastated and told her to do whatever makes her happy. She left the room for an hour, then came back and said she was sorry and that she wouldn’t actually leave.

This is one example, but she’s used this false threat of leaving a lot, explicitly saying if she leaves she will never come back. I will not engage in this hostage type behavior and I’ve always said that she really feels that way then she should leave. I assume she wants me to beg her to stay, but I wont do it. I’ve told her this is toxic behavior and after a while she stopped.

The reality is that this blowups are still continuing, our primary issue is that when we have small disagreements on how we should be treating each other, she will often blow up on me, very angry and yelling.

At first I was very shocked by this, I don’t respond well to angry yelling and I’ve never had it in any of my previous relationships. But after the past year of being berated, I’ve started responding the same way. I feel like my rights aren’t being respected and that if don’t push back as hard as she’s pushing, she will trample me as a person.

It’s very strange because 90% of the time, things are great, she’s kind, we both like each others families. We split housework well and are a great team for tackling projects.

Now we’re close to the wedding date and things haven’t gotten better. She’s tried saying its stress from a laundry list of things, but all the “stressors” are things she’s been dealing with for years before she met me and will continue to exist into the next decade.

I’ve also noticed her snapping at her father sometimes which I had never seen until we got engaged. This really scares me, because her father and I are both easy going people, who almost never get angry. But maybe she thinks this is normal, possibly how her mother treats her father?

I know I made a big mistake, and maybe that broke the relationship. But at this point I’m starting to wonder if there’s any hope things will get better. I’ve told her I’m unhappy and expressed how I feel about the all out screaming arguments happening every 1-2 weeks. It’s not sustainable for me.

Someone close to me recently reached out to ask me if everything was okay because I seemed sad. My fiance says that she loves me and that I’m the perfect person for her, that I’m the only person she ever wants in her life and that I make her incredibly happy. My fiance says that I’m only seeing the negative and that she will work on herself to be more like me. I feel lost and sad.

WOMAN RECEIVED A SENSUAL MESSAGE FROM A DRUNK COLLEAGUE

0

I (23F) am about one year into my first job. I have been on this team in particular for four months and I’m finally getting the hang of it. One colleague (30M) and I got along immediately, as we have a lot of common interests.

We talk a lot during the day, but I have not been flirtatious. Recently, he put me on a few projects that are really great opportunities-

I was feeling good because not only am I getting along great with my team, but I’m getting great experience!

I recently ended a long-term relationship, and something in me told me to not tell him because I could tell he was interested in me. I thought he would be professional enough to not make things weird. Sure enough, earlier this week he sent me four long drunk paragraphs expressing his interest.

In the message (which was quite sensual) he said he was sorry and that he was drunk and would be deleting the texts so he did not have to know what he said. I got the text at midnight and didn’t want to deal with it so I went to bed.

He responded again in the morning and apologised and I said it was fine, let’s just do our jobs.

I am so so angry about this. I’m annoyed that he himself is responsible for deleting the message while I get my whole week thrown off. We spend a lot of time together during the work day and I really just wish he had kept it to himself and been professional. I enjoyed our friendship and now I just feel weird. Am I overreacting?

Why are men incapable of being friends/why couldn’t he have politely asked me on a date instead?

MAHATHIR – M’SIA IS A “COUNTRY OF THIEVES LED BY THIEVES”

0

97-year-old former prime minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, called Malaysia a “country of thieves led by thieves” in a lengthy Facebook post.

He was addressing his predecessor Najib Razak, warning that he could get a full pardon for his crimes and even return to being prime minister again.

Here is what Mahathir said on Facebook

JAILING NAJIB

1. UMNO’s Deputy President said (he denied afterwards) that Najib should go to jail first before asking for pardon.

2. I don’t think Najib relish the idea of going to prison. He would want to be pardoned without going to jail. Of course only the Agong can pardon him.

3. But events seem to indicate that a full pardon is possible. This will enable Najib to contest in elections and to become Prime Minister again. Malaysians can then kiss his hand more ardently.

4. The world will laugh. But Malaysians don’t mind. Najib has made Malays shameless. Stealing is okay, especially if you are the boss.

5. We are a kleptocracy, a country of thieves led by thieves. Come General Election 15 we will vote for them because we get a little of their stolen money.

6. Many say there is no alternative. All politicians are corrupt. Fortunately this is not quite true. There are politicians who are not corrupt, who love their country, and who want Malaysia to once again be an Asian Tiger.

7. There are also Non-Governmental Organisations who want Malaysia to be a great country. Unfortunately NGOs are not political parties. They hope to persuade the politicians to reject corruption. The dirty politicians who now rule Malaysia will ignore them.

8. The best way for NGOs to achieve their struggle to clean the Government is for them and their followers to vote for clean politicians who are not in power now but who wish for Malaysia to recover as an Asian Tiger.

9. Alternatively they can stand for elections as candidates of clean parties without joining the parties.

10. In the 14th Elections, Parti Keadilan lent its symbol and flag to candidates from Bersatu, Amanah and DAP and they won and set up the Government called Pakatan Harapan.

11. The same strategy can be used in the 15th General Election. This way the NGOs would be in a better position to carry out their struggle but of course they must get the permission of the party whose symbol and flag they choose to use.

12. As far as jailing Najib is concerned, the Federal Court which is hearing the appeal will decide.

13. If the finding is not unanimous, it is likely that a pardon would be given.

14. This is the wish of corrupt people who believe that a corrupt government will tolerate their corruption.

15 Y.O SISTER PREGNANT, FATHER FORCES HER TO ABORT BUT SHE REFUSES

0

Firstly our family came from a wealthy background, something that was done incorrectly will be looked down on and now my parents are worried that friends and relatives will find out.

My sister (15 ONLY!) is pregnant and also won’t tell who she “piak piak” with and now won’t go out of her room.

My father whose very furious right now is angry saying we can’t keep this baby wanted my sister to abort this baby, but my sister refused.

My family right now is just a complete mess and my sister has not eaten anything for the past few days, she says she does not want an abortion and even though some people say it’s wrong I want to help her, I have even tried to talk to my father.

I know no one will read this but I just needed a place to release my feelings because everything just feels so dark right now and I’m afraid for the future of my sister.

to the few who are reading, I really appreciate some kind words thankyou.

GUY HASN’T TOLD HIS MUM THAT HE IS GETTING MARRIED, FAMILY HATES HIS FIANCEE

0

Fiancée(m25) has not told his mother we’re getting married – Me(F24) raising major concern

This whole thing has a lot of details that I will try to condense as much as possible but to get started here’s some background. –

My fiancée(m25) and I(F24) have been dating for 9 years.

We have a 5 year old daughter together and have lived together since my pregnancy. His family has never been a big fan of me and has been fairly open about their distaste in the past – although more recently haven’t been as negative about me. I would say their dislike had it’s height at the end of my pregnancy –

when my partner made the choice not to tell them until I was already 8 months pregnant. I was not close to his family at this time in our lives’ other than the occasional visit so I did not feel at all comfortable being the one to tell them – I was 18 and trying to figure out how I was going to take of a baby.

When he did finally tell them – his mother specifically was horrible to me because I refused to move in with them rather than staying with my own parents who had already prepared space for me and baby.

His mother often brings up that she feels she is put 2nd to my own family and his very rude about. I’ve tried many times to reason with my fiancée that it is not that I mean to put my own family first by any means but simply that my family goes out of their way to include us where his family simply does not.

A good specific example is around the holidays – my family always has had a Christmas lunch rather than dinner and my partner’s family has a dinner. Since we all live in the same city we generally spend the morning with just us(myself, fiancée and daughter) Lunch/early afternoon with my family and Dinner/evening with his family.

Both families truly get equal time and if anything I have cut my time with my family short on the holidays to make sure we get to his families house at time the consider decent to avoid a fight.

Another example of their dislike is they have constantly asked him in the past ”why he likes me, why does he want to stay with me, is he really happy”.. etc.

It’s overall not been a great situation but I’ve tried my best to still be kind and I’ve never once kept my daughter or partner away from his family even when I have chosen to stay home or away from them after a major blow up from his mother.

Onto the most recent concern – I(24F) want to get married – I believe marriage is important and that especially since we have our daughter together, have been dating for 9+ years and living together for 5+ that we should get married.

I respect those who don’t want marriage or don’t view it as important but for me personally it is an important step that I want to take with my partner.

My partner on the other hand does not view it in the same light and has put it off many times. I finally told him this year that it was the next step for me in a relationship and that he needed to make a decision either it was for him as well or not.

He did ultimately ask me to marry him earlier this year(April 2022) and we have a set date for early next year(2023). I’ve told my family and close friends almost immediately out of excitement.

He on the other hand has not told a single soul besides his father. He told his father we were planning to get married but not any other detail as far as when.

His father told him that he was happy for him if that is what he wanted. His father and mother are together but his father has kept his lips sealed per his own choosing and even instructed my partner he shouldn’t tell his mother immediately as she was ‘already in a mood'(this was around end of April early may).

We are now at the end of July – and my partner has still not told anyone else about our engagement and the fact we are full swing planning a wedding together. He tells me that I should keep planning and that he does love me/wants to be with me but get’s extremely stressed/upset/angry/depressed anytime I bring up telling his family.

I’m very concerned that his mom is going to feel similar to how she felt when he did not tell her about our pregnancy. I feel at a loss of what to do because it’s not he is estranged from his parents it’s just a really odd relationship – like he almost seems fake around them.

Like he can tell them about his job, hobbies but not about our relationship what so ever. I don’t feel comfortable telling his mother based on past occurrence’s but also feel like a fraud sitting across from her over dinner and she asks what we’ve been up to – like oh you know just planning a wedding you know nothing about??

I love my partner and I do truly believe he love’s me but this is something he has not been able to work through – the communication with his family is awful and puts a lot of stress on me and I am worried how it will affect our daughter and our family unit moving forward. Like I either want them to be involved and supportive – or to stay the hell away from me and my family(my partner & child).

Any advice?
