PM LEE – THE PAP DOES ITS UTMOST TO FIELD A DIVERSE TEAM OF MPs

0

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spoke during at an appreciation dinner on 12 July at the party leader of the People’s Action Party, which would’ve been held after the 2020 General Election but wasn’t due to the pandemic.

He shared how it is a mistaken view that all the MPs of the PAP hold the same perspectives, saying “some think that since PAP MPs all wear white and white, they are also monochrome in their ideas and perspectives. This view is quite mistaken.”

He said that “in fact we do our utmost to field a diverse team, and make sure that every MP brings something different to the table.”

TRANSCRIPT OF SPEECH BY PARTY SECRETARY GENERAL LEE HSIEN LOONG AT THE POST-GENERAL ELECTION APPRECIATION DINNER ON 12 JULY 2022

A very good evening, Comrades!

Tonight’s dinner is to thank our Comrades who retired as MPs in GE 2020, as well as all our MPs and candidates for your hard work and good fight in that General Election. Normally we would have held it soon after the General Election, but because of COVID, we have had to postpone the event until now. So I am very glad that we can finally gather in person tonight.

It has been a tough two and a half years, fighting COVID. The battle is not over, but we have come a long way and made much progress. As a whole, Singapore has not done badly. We have protected the lives and livelihoods of many Singaporeans.

A key factor in this has been the strong trust between Singaporeans and the PAP government, and more broadly the high trust levels within our society. This trust was not something established only when the pandemic hit us. It is the result of hard work and bonds forged over decades, by successive generations of PAP leaders and MPs and the voters who have supported us, and supported the party that we stand for. This enabled the PAP to win the mandate of voters and to serve Singapore, especially in a crisis.

Tonight, I would like to acknowledge the good work by the 20 MPs who have retired, and thank you for your many contributions to the Party and to Singapore. I have recorded some of these contributions in my valedictory letters to you. Preparing these letters, I was struck afresh by the wide range of issues that you handled, the diversity of projects you implemented, as well as the intensity of your engagements not just with residents, but also other community groups, in order to win their support and consolidate the ground.

A significant part of your duties was in Parliament. Asking questions and speaking up for your residents. Providing feedback to help improve Government policies. Ensuring that bills are thoroughly debated and properly scrutinised before they are passed. Often you did this work through the Government Parliamentary Committees (GPCs), where you could focus on a specific ministry and make a deeper contribution. Depending on your personal backgrounds and interests, different MPs have championed different issues close to your hearts. Lily spoke passionately for the elderly and under-privileged. Zainal advocated for lower-wage workers. Hin Kee spoke up for taxi and private hire drivers. Bee Wah championed her residents at every opportunity with every Minister, and did so memorably and vividly. Your questions and interventions in the Chamber have shown Singaporeans that their voices are being heard, and their concerns addressed.

The other major part of the MP’s job is outside Parliament, to tend the ground in your constituencies and wards. Every constituency is different. The profiles of residents vary, along with their needs and aspirations. So the MPs have set different priorities, and shaped their constituencies in different ways through various projects. Chok Tong oversaw the transformation of Marine Parade into a vibrant waterfront hub for MParaders over 43 years. Hng Kiang reinvigorated Telok Blangah and brought nature closer to residents. Yaacob developed beautiful waterways through the ABC Waters Programme, including in Kolam Ayer. Yi Shyan rejuvenated the 40-year-old Bedok Town Centre with Heartbeat@Bedok, an integrated community hub. You and your grassroots teams have given much thought and attention to your constituencies. The Government has supported promising ideas, and worked hand-in-hand with the MPs and grassroots advisors to deliver results.

You have also initiated schemes to expand common spaces, mobilising residents and bringing different groups together to build the community spirit. Boon Wan re-imbued the kampung spirit in his 3 residents, encapsulated in the Sayang Sembawang tagline. Fatimah organised many fun community events in Geylang Serai, adding something like 25 entries to the Singapore Book of Records, including one Guinness World Record – the “largest mass mini-trampoline workout”. Ho-Pin popularised brisk walking groups at Bukit Panjang and then North West CDC, which grew into a national network, and Teng Koon initiated sports programmes for the youth at Woodgrove Division.

As MPs, you have spent countless hours listening to and engaging your residents. Understanding their problems and working hand-in-hand with agencies and community partners to solve them. Like Cedric who advocated for the formation of Frontier Primary School, eventually and successfully. Sam Tan led rejuvenation projects in Radin Mas to make amenities more accessible. Ser Luck offered free co-working spaces at Sengkang Community Club for residents. He should have IPO. One issue which every MP pays close attention to is taking good care of the vulnerable in our society, including especially low-income families and the elderly. They deserve all the help and support we can give. So not surprisingly many of you implemented your own schemes to support them in your own constituencies, on top of what the government is doing. Intan had a Home@Jalan Kayu scheme that improved home conditions for needy families. Shi-Lu helped set up a Silver Zone in Lengkok Bahru. Chia Hsing launched an initiative for residents to pay it forward, by buying coffee and tea for vulnerable residents.

But most importantly, besides all these community activities, you did the political work, mobilising support for the party and winning votes in elections. We must never do things solely for political advantage. But unless good policies and good work translate into votes and electoral success, they cannot endure. You never shied away when the Party needed you to contest during election time. Charles Chong is a prime example. Each time the Party anticipated a tough fight, we sent him to do battle there – and he always carried the day for us, through his savvy campaigning and I was going to say personal charm but better to say 4 personal touch. Swee Say too, in a quite different way. We redeployed him more than once, and each time through his unique brand of retail politics, intensively cultivating residents block by block, explaining things in the way only he can, which is if I may say, same same but different, he won them over.

These are just a small sample of all the work that you have done, over many years as MPs. But they give a sense of the scope and significance of MPs’ duties, and explain why being an MP is so demanding, yet so fulfilling.

And this is also perhaps why for many MPs, stepping down is not an easy adjustment to make. It is hard to let go of the close ties formed with your residents. You hanker for that adrenaline rush. The next problem to solve. The next Minister to hassle. For me too, it has been a difficult task to ask you to step down to make way for your successors. I am grateful for your understanding and big-heartedness on this, for your efforts in guiding and supporting your successor. And for your appreciation that we need to do this to keep up leadership renewal in our Party, and make sure that Singapore always has the strongest team to lead it, both now and into the future.

So to all the comrades who have retired. Thank you once again for your service to your constituents and to Singapore andalso a big thank you to your spouses and families. They have sacrificed much, so that you could devote time and attention to your residents, and give your best as MPs and Advisors.

The Party continues to need new generations of people like you to come forward, enter the political arena, and fight for the support of Singaporeans and the future of Singapore. People with integrity, commitment and ability. People with the grit to take the rough and tumble of politics, and the passion and imagination to build a better Singapore. Also people with diverse experiences and backgrounds. Some think that since PAP MPs all wear white and white, they are also monochrome in their ideas and perspectives. But this view is quite mistaken. In fact we do our utmost to field a diverse team, and make sure that every MP brings something different to the table. Each of you represents the aspirations and concerns of a different segment in our diverse society. Each of you has a slightly different network and different people whom you reach out to.

Your varied perspectives help make our policies more rounded and robust. We must maintain this diversity in our ranks, keep our Party a broad tent, and field the best possible team in the next General Election. And that work is well underway.

In these very challenging times, and especially in such times. We must keep the Party renewed, vigorous and in touch with Singaporeans. The MPs currently serving have taken over the mission from you, and will build on what you have accomplished. You can rest assure that they will do that so that the PAP can continue to serve Singaporeans well, and secure our future for many years to come.

Thank you!

BF USES GF’S MONEY TO BUY HER THINGS, THEN SAYS HE’S THE ONE WHO BOUGHT IT

0

My(31f) BF(30m) convinces himself he’s bought me things that I bought with my own money.
Been dating this guy for just over a year and he’s really nice and we get on well.

Before we started dating he seemed to flaunt his high paid job and bought me expensive gifts like a soup maker and printer, just because we’d briefly talked about them at some point.

It felt like love-bombing so I thanked him but also mentioned that they were a bit much and I’d like to spend time together instead of have large gifts, so he didnt buy me any more and we started dating, our dates were based on enjoying each others company instead. This was perfect.

We split dates 50/50 taking in turns to go up and get drinks and splitting food, and occasionally treated each other to small things over the past year. This was all great.

However, over the past year he keeps bringing up times he got me gifts in the past, which wouldnt be too bad… but a lot of the stuff he ‘remembers’ getting me, he never did.

For example, we were watching something and a girl said “I feel I owe it to the guy to sleep with him if he pays for our dates” My boyfriend made the comment “Oh I hope you didnt feel that way when i was paying for all of our dates For the first 6 months.” This confused the heck out of me, because our dates were always 50/50. Also we only went to cheap bars because neither of us like restaurants.

I mentioned a video game that I was really excited for and remember going to the store and purchasing on the date it came out (it came with a free gift) He said ”Oh yeah I remember buying you that.“ And I argued that he didnt buy it me, he said “I definitely did.” I had to show him the free gift, which he didnt remember and get up on google that the game came with the gift, before he would believe me.

We went overseas on a trip which he booked but i sent him half the money for, he keeps bringing up the time “he took me on a holiday” and is insistent that he paid for it all.

The final thing that I found weird as heck is, he made a comment in front of my brother. We were talking again a bout a video game that we are playing through together (hes got his own file as well, this ones just for fun) where he does the missions and I spend the in-game money on dumb stuff like hats. He made the comment that ”It’s just like real life, I make all the money and she spends it all.” And I have NO idea where this came from. We both work full time, we don’t combine finances, we don’t live together, and I hate shopping and barely buy myself anything. He buys himself loads of things all the time, and I don’t care at all. I have never touched his money.

I really like him but this is getting more and more frequent. Also when I got him an anniversary present he acted really upset because he didnt get me anything, even though I never wanted anything (he said he would cook for me but didnt).

It seems like his materialism is a extreme and he bases too much worth in physical possessions. To the point where hes convincing himself hes buying me things that I bought myself. How can we address this?

NETIZENS WHO DOXXED ROAD RAGE WOMAN, IDENTIFIED IN POLICE REPORT

A netizen, u/a_concern_sgrean, shared photos online of a police report made by an unidentified person, regarding the doxxing against the woman who went viral for a road rage incident at the Second Link Malaysia Checkpoint.

A slew of netizens were identified and named in the police report for doxxing, including Hardwarezone forum users.

The unspecified person’s police report also cited an alleged lack of action against the doxxers who posted the road rage woman’s personal information online.

The report also mentioned an incident that happened earlier this year, where a Bentley driver pushed against a security guard at the Red Swastika School, and referenced the similarities between the two incidents: where the vehicle continues driving forward despite there being a person in front.

For some reason, the police report also mentioned the consumption of drugs.

The MPV driver’s son, Mhzq Ziq, who posted the videos of the incident online, was also mentioned in the police report.

WOMAN WHO BLOCK CAR, RECEIVED ALMOST 100 UNKNOWN MESSAGES & CALLS

Shortly after the incident of the woman blocking the car and ripping off the license plate went viral, the woman told Shin Min Daily News that she did not dare to leave her home for 2 days.

She received close to 100 calls and messages from unknown people after the incident went viral.

Shin Min Daily News reported that some of the messages were of a threatening nature and one of the messages even said “Don’t let me see you outside”.

She told the Chinese Newspaper that she did not dare to leave her home for 2 days after receiving the threatening messages.

She has also deactivated her Facebook account after the incident.

Previously, netizens from various local forums posted information regarding the woman’s name and family details which even include her husband’s job role and family photos.

She has since made a report against it.

Background:

A video emerged online showing a road rage incident that happened on the Tuas Second Link, involving a driver who is presumably from Singapore wearing an Innova Junior College shirt and a female passenger.

The woman was seen leaning onto the black MPV with her back facing the driver, and violently trying to rip out the license plate of the vehicle.

She then threw it onto the windshield of the MPV, as her partner (the man wearing a blue Innova JC shirt) came running out of his car and towards them.

He then stood at the side of the road pointing his middle fingers at the driver as She-Hulk pushed him away and they then got back into their car.

Another cut of the video shows the POV from the black MPV driver’s viewpoint, with the woman standing right in front of their car and filming them.

She was then seen folding her arms and staring at the driver and his passengers, before leaning forward onto their bonnet and gesturing at the other passing cars to drive on.

GUY PIAK PIAK WITH FIANCEE IN BED, AND SHE FARTED IN HIS MOUTH

0

My fiance farted in my mouth when we were getting it on in bed.

The other evening i (24M) went down and my fiance (24F) in an effort to seduce her, as one does. It was fresh after a shower which is our normal requirement for any intimate activity so that neither one of us our putting the whole days sweat in our mouths or in her body.

Anyway, everything was fine and dandy. Nothing out of the ordinary. Then i messed up by deciding to move south to lick on her bum. She thoroughly enjoys it and i dont mind doing it.

On this particular evening however, i mustve either had her in a different position than normal or something because after about 10 seconds of having my mouth directly over her poop hole, she ripped a mean fart right into my mouth.

I didnt make a big deal about it as things happen but it definitely ruined the mood. We did share a good laugh about it. I still am chuckling about it.

I can still feel the fart in my throat. Im not sure how long to expect it to stay there. I hope its not much longer. It leaves a weird aftertaste of everything else that i put in my mouth. Food, drink, etc.

ROAD RAGE @ M’SIA CHECKPOINT – SON OF MPV DRIVER WANTS DOXXING TO STOP

The now-infamous incident of road rage at Tuas Second Link took over the headlines in recent times, with the woman being seen ripping out the license plate of an MPV, followed by allegations by both parties and police reports being lodged.

The son of the MPV driver, 25-year-old Muhammad Haziq, first shared the videos of the incident onto Facebook.

He was not present inside the MPV at the time of the incident.

He spoke to Straits Times that his intention of posting the dashcam videos online was to reach out to the woman from the red Kia to reach an amicable resolution.

He added that the way is being treated is “unfair to her” and that he would “appreciate it if people stop posting up her pictures.”

The police also confirmed that a police report has been lodged for doxxing.

Haziq said that he wanted the woman to step forward and settle the issue, and added that his father “just wants to get his car fixed and claim for the damage that the woman has caused.”

Driver’s POV

Haziq recounted his father’s point of view from the incident, saying that he was driving at the time and saw a gap on the right lane during the traffic jam towards Johor.

His father wanted to switch lanes and flashed his signal before moving into the gap, and the red Kia then drove forward into the gap, resulting in both cars coming into contact.

He added that his father had let the red Kia through before getting out of his car to speak to the inhabitants of the other vehicle to settle the issue of damages being incurred.

Haziq added that the driver of the red Kia, now revealed to be the woman’s son, had allegedly refused to get out of his car and also allegedly used vulgar hand signs to provoke his (Haziq’s) father.

His father then returned to his vehicle feeling like there was nothing else he could do and had intended to make a police report in both Singapore and Johor.

The woman then proceeded to stand in front of his father’s car and the rest, as they say, is now etched permanently in social media history.

GF QUESTIONING IF SHE IS RIGHT TO NOT PAY FOR DATES WITH HER BF

0

Am I wrong for not paying in my relationship? I’ve been with my boyfriend for 2 years.

He always took pride in “his girlfriends never having to pay anything”, supposedly it’s because he’s from the some atas country.

That said, he always paid for all expenses with his previous girlfriends and pumped so much money into gifts for them (bags, dates, even paying for their friends). Since I’m with him we always split every bill for vacay (flight and airbnb) evenly. He always paid for our food tho (but I always told him I was fine with whatever food, he always wanted to go to good restaurants). Well I made it a habit so slip him a $100 after vacations like this. I’m a student and not working full time, he’s been working full time for several years.

Also, I always offered to pay. He always refused. Even when we’re at home I always tell him not to go get coffee together and making a point trying to save up his money for him. He has never saved a dime before he was with me. I inspired him to do it and always refused expensive gifts or expenses that are avoidable. I never want him to spend much on me. If we go for drinks or get takeout he’a the one that inspires it and wants to do it. Anyways We recently got into an argument about how he feels like I never pay for anything which makes me feel dumbfounded. It’s true, most of the time I don’t pay for our drinks/ food etc. And if I sometimes do he will refuse and l’Il literally have to urge him to let me pay. It’s weird for me and I feel offended. I’m the first girlfriend of his that doesn’t deal with his money as in fun money.

But he want to be a “gentleman” by showing off his money.
