MOH – MORE THAN 150 PPL TESTED POSITIVE FOR TB @ JALAN BUKIT MERAH

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a media release on 24 June that about 30% of current and former residents, stall holders and their workers at 2 Jalan Bukit Merah have tested positive for tuberculosis after going through voluntary testing in May.

MOH added that they would be running further tests for those who tested positive to determine if they have a TB infection or an active TB disease.

The tests were offered to residents and workers at the block last month after 7 people at the block were diagnosed with TB between February last year and March this year.

Here is MOH’s statement

The Ministry of Health (MOH) will extend Tuberculosis (TB) and chest X-ray screening for current and former residents of 2 Jalan Bukit Merah, as well as stallholders, shop owners and their employees at that location, to 24 and 25 June 2022. This follows an earlier round of voluntary TB screening for these residents and workers from 27 to 31 May 2022. On-site chest X-ray will also be conducted for selected residents who require further testing.

2.     As of 23 June 2022, a total of 574 out of 749 persons in the block have attended the TB screening. Of these 574 people screened, about 30% have tested positive for TB through blood test. Further tests are required to determine if these persons have TB infection or active TB disease. Those with active TB disease will be treated while those with latent TB infection will be given appointments for follow-up at the TB Control Unit and offered treatment if suitable.

3.     We have also detected one more case that is genetically linked by Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) to the cluster. Contact investigations for the new case are ongoing.

4.     The extended screening exercise and further tests will be conducted free of charge. All persons living or working at the block who have not been screened for TB are required to participate in the extended screening exercise. The screening is mandatory under the Infectious Diseases Act (IDA). Persons who have been recalled for further tests will also be required to complete these tests. Staff from the National Centre for Infectious Diseases have conducted visits to non-respondent units to engage and urge residents who had not been screened earlier to undergo screening. Screening is not necessary for individuals who had occasionally visited the block or vicinity as the risk of transmission to persons who are transient contacts of a TB case is low.

5.     The screening station will be located at the Queenstown Hock San Zone Residents’ Committee (RC) Centre at Block 3 Jalan Bukit Merah. Residents who are unavailable to attend the screening on these two days can get tested at the designated SATA Clinic (Potong Pasir Medical Centre) before 5 August 2022.

Health Advisory

6.     The symptoms of TB disease include persistent cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer, low-grade fever, night sweats, fatigue, weight loss and chest pain. TB is typically spread through close and prolonged contact with an infectious individual, and not by contact with items or surfaces touched by a person with TB. Therefore, persons who are contacted and screened following the detection of a TB individual typically comprise family members, close workplace colleagues and acquaintances from common social activities with close and regular interaction. This approach is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is practised in Singapore.

7.     TB is endemic in Singapore. TB infection is not uncommon in Singaporeans, with the prevalence of TB infection as high as 29% among those aged 70 to 79 years. Persons with TB infection do not experience symptoms of TB and are not infectious.

8.     TB is curable and the spread of TB is preventable. Early detection and prompt treatment of cases remain important in helping those infected and rendering them non-infectious. For individuals diagnosed with TB disease, adherence to treatment is important.

WOMAN ALMOST GROPED BY DISABLED MAN, FAMILY THINKS ITS A JOKE

0

I got sexually harassed at work by a disabled man and am feeling really invalidated by my family/colleagues reactions.

Let me preface this by saying I’m also disabled (professionally diagnosed with Autism).

He’s wheelchair-bound and has limited speech capability (not sure of his actual diagnosis). He gets dropped off at the business next door and will sometimes come over to chat to the guys up front. This mostly constitutes of him swearing loudly and other inappropriate behaviours.

Yesterday, he was coming down the back through the employee area, being pushed by the worker (our store).

As he was coming past I turned to move a box out the way of his chair, and when my back was to him he reached over and tried to grab my butt. If it wasn’t for the worker physically stopping him he would have groped me.

I know lots of people have been through far worse, but I’ve never felt grosser and more violated. What made it worse was the reaction of my colleagues. The workers who witnessed it laughed like it was joke, and my sister (she + my brother also work there, and my dad is the owner) dismissed it as ‘not that bad compared to what other women have to deal with’.

My mum was very supportive and reassuring, but she and dad are overseas so there’s only so much comfort she could give. I’m going to talk to dad about not letting that man in the shop, or at least not down the back in the employee only area.

They dimiss my concerns and struck it off as a joke.

GIRL AGAINST BF TAKING MOTORBIKE LICENSE – “RIDERS ALWAYS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN ACCIDENTS”

0

How do I convince my boyfriend to NOT take a motorbike license?

Now hear me out, I have nothing against motorcyclists. On the contrary, I even enjoy being the pillion because the speed and ‘thrill’ being on a moving motorbike brings.

But how do I tell my boyfriend I do not want him to take on a motorcycle license because it’s too risky?

I will not deny him of learning another skill but the thing is he even has the intention to get a motorbike (i mean no shit right, who would want to learn how to ride without the intention of getting a bike lol).

But I refuse and hate the idea of having my loved ones learning or being the one riding a motorcycle. From what I’ve seen, accidents that have motorcycles involved, be it the motorcyclist fault or not, mostly end up being fatal or leaving the rider and/or pillion severely injured.

The fact that motorcyclists are also completely exposed with no bodily protection except a helmet while riding, gives me anxiety.

And also, having a helmet or not or regardless how safe or careful you are of a motorcyclist, doesn’t really make a difference to me because the thought of how motorcyclists have to also go between or around vehicles (sometimes large cement mixers and such) just induces greater fear.

I also have many relatives, friends and friends of friends who have unfortunately passed away due to motorcycle-related accidents. Of course, not all motorcyclists will end up in accidents, but the risks are still there and it makes me scared.

I am not the only one against my boyfriend planning to learn how to ride, his family members are also against it because his best friend’s brother also got into a coma for weeks after skidding on the road while riding.

We are all afraid and have tried to persuade him time and time again but he just constantly assures us he will be careful but him being careful doesn’t guarantee safety on the road.

I don’t want to deny my boyfriend from learning another skill BUT he is intending to get a bike after learning (i mean no shit, who would willingly take their license and then just put their skill to vain) but we rly never know what will happen on the road, and I cannot afford to take that risk.

What should I do in this situation?

LAB TECHNICIAN @ SEC SCH MOLESTED 13 Y.O BOY, JAILED 10 WEEKS

A 33-year-old man who worked as a laboratory technician at a secondary school, pleaded guilty to molestation and was sentenced to 10 weeks imprisonment on 24 June.

He had hugged a secondary 1 boy from behind and kissed him on the cheek.

The identity of the man and the school cannot be revealed due to a court order protecting the identity of the victim.

Background

The man started working at the school in 2013 and met the student in 2018 when he was in secondary 1, and the victim would approach him for help with his school work.

Between January 2019 to June 2019, the victim was doing his schoolwork alone with the man in the science lab, the man hugged him from behind and kissed him on the cheek without his consent.

The incident was revealed in October that year when the management of the school noticed the man not keeping a professional distance from the students on several occasions.

The school management then looked into the man’s interactions with the victims.

The victim made a police report on 24 October 2019 about being molested by the man earlier in the year.

The man is currently out on bail and was ordered to surrender himself to the State Courts on 15 July for the commencement of his prison sentence.

GIRL CAN’T MOVE ON BECAUSE BF SAID HER “DOWN THERE” VERY LOOSE

0

I (23F) can’t move on from the time my BF (22M) told me I have a loose vag.

We’re doing very good together now but I can’t help but feel insecure when I remember that a year ago after the first time we slept together, we got home and he told me that I have a loose vag.

I told this to my best friend and she said maybe I do because she said her bf would never tell that to her. I felt very bitter with her comment.

Both of them said sorry when I opened up that I felt hurt and it wasn’t brought up again after that time but I still remember it especially when we sleep together

How would I remove my insecurities from his and my best friend’s comment or at least remember it less?

Netizens’ comments

  • Sounds like neither him or your friend understand how vaginas work to begin with. If you’re “tight” (i.e. tensed up) it actually means you are not aroused. The vagina “loosens” when it becomes aroused. You’re not loose, your boyfriend is just an idiot.
  • was your boyfriend genuinely apologetic for his comment? you should be honest and tell him that it still weighs on you. does he usually say mean things like this? if this isnt the only time, re-evaluate the relationship.

SHELTERED GIRL DEVELOPED A SENSE OF FEAR AGAINST MEN

0

Is there a way to tell whether a guy is a potential threat? What should you do if you feel you’re in danger.

So, I’ve been pretty sheltered the majority of my life, and have always brushed possible scary situations to the side. However, reading through all these stories and experiences from women on the internet has made me develop a fear of men.

I kinda wish it weren’t like this, but it is what it is. It sucks that our most primal fear lives amongst us.

Are there any signs I can tell if I’m around someone, tell if they are potentially dangerous and may hurt me? I’m often alone by myself, and it would be easy for someone to just grab and do all sorts of things to me. Also, what should you do if you’re ever being assaulted or approached by someone who wants to harm you.

I just saw a post of a girl who left the gym and said a guy came up behind her and touch her and she was able to get away by biting and stuff, but is there a better way to get away from someone, especially if they’re much bigger than you?

What do you do if you see someone else who you suspect is in a life threatening situation?

I just saw a video of a girl freeing herself from trafficking during an overseas trip. She was taken out in broad daylight. How would I intervene if I saw her? Are there any signs?

This guy was obviously slapping her around, but I’m sure other times are more subtle. What should you do in these situations? We all hope to be the superhero and knock the guy out, but it’s usually a very dangerous situation and they often have weapons on them and can very seriously injure you.

WIFE FORCED TO DO HOUSEWORK WHEN SHE IS NOT WORKING

0

I’m a teacher, so I’m off during the June holidays. I guess I didn’t realize that during this time every year, I must become the sole person responsible for housecleaning, according to my partner.

I’m confused to say the least. Like we both live here, why is sharing the weight so hard? I’ll keep the house clean for a few days, then stop doing anything to it for a couple days, and instead of cleaning what is bothering him, he gets mad at me when I ask him for help cleaning that thing.

I’m going to add that these past few months have been kinda traumatic. I had an emotional outbreak, which cost me my last job. I have since signed a contract for somewhere else, but it really just made me feel super worthless hearing him speak about what my responsibilities are. I’m supposed to be an unpaid maid during the summers?

He told me to make a chart of the house tasks and when they need to be done, so I did. I just don’t know what to think. He’s going to help from now on, but he talked to me like I was stupid and below him.

He said something along the lines of, “I’m sorry you can’t live up to my expectations.” What? How is that an apology? It sounded like it was said to bring me down.

Who agree that partners should share the housework?

GIRL WRITES GRANDMOTHER STORY HOPING MEN WON’T HARASS HER

0

To all the men in here, and anywhere else, I’m gonna tell you how simple & easy it is to be considerate and not make a woman uncomfortable.

Title is self-explanatory but I’m gonna break it down because I see and hear things that drive me absolutely bonkers.

Story Time:

My buddy has a 4yr old dog, we’ll call him B, and will sometimes drop him off at a doggy daycare during the day while he’s at work so the little dude doesn’t get lonely. Other times, if I’m working from home, I’ll take a lunch and pick B up.

We usually go to a regular park depending on my workload. Two Fridays ago I took B to a dog park and he poo’d but I forgot my poo bags. I was searching the bags at the park for one but I can’t seem to find one. A young lady was standing next to me saw me looking for a bag. She asked if I wanted one and I said yes please. Our interaction was short and simple.

Her: Did you need one?

Me: Yes, please.

Her: Here you go. (She made brief small talk to be friendly.)

Me: Thank you. (Also made brief small talk to be friendly.)

That was it and it literally only last about a minute or two. End of interaction. Some guys will take this as a cue that she’s into you or that she wants to go home with you. Why? Because she talked to you? Did you a favor? No. Smarten up! Please, thank you, move on. You’re not owed anything. Read the cues and respect personal space.

Conclusion:

I grew up around 4 women, plus a mom, and no dad. I heard these stories of discomfort growing up. Sexualizing girls at a young age, staring down women at the MRT station, hollering at them while they’re walking down the street.

You’re not entitled to anything. If you’re a guy that does this, I hope to gods you get sprayed on by a skunk, after walking through poison ivy, while wearing shorts. I would say how I really feel but I want to be as civil as possible, which is exponentially more than you deserve. The excuses you tell yourself are about as intelligent as the rock you threw at a river when you were a kid. This awareness, this human kindness, is for anyone and everyone.

To all the men who are gonna want to fight or disagree with me: Take your head out from where it is, put it back on your neck, and learn to be a decent person.

DRUNK GIRL SHOUT AT FRIEND WHO ALWAYS TAKE HER MONEY

0

first time posting, English isn’t very good… I’m 18-years-old F have been diagnosed ASD for years and i go through periods of mania where I don’t remember things.

i was out drinking with friendsy and ended up sick due to heat exhaustion and other factors (lack of food which was my own fault). a friend took care of me outside until i felt better and our other friends, including Y (18M), came and found us and Y was pissed off with the friend who took care of me and myself.

Y and i have a history together and our friendship was strained at first because he insulted my physical appearance behind my back for a few months – he apologised and i forgave him.

Y has financial troubles and I struggle too but help him whenever i can, for food, transport, etc. he tells me during this manic episode that i was yelling through the streets and he said I tried to manipulate him using financials.

people around us have commented on him using me for money but ive never listened to them more than an intrusive thought – i also say i don’t feel good enough for him and that he deserves better and im wondering if i said something like “even after how much i do you’re angry at me for not being enough” and he (also misinterprets social cues to be self depreciating) took it the wrong way but i still don’t know what i said and my friends cannot remember either.

the day after and i remembered vaguely something had happened i reached out and apologised multiple times and said i had no idea what had happened (and i still don’t). i care about him a lot and i don’t know what to do and i feel genuinely awful but people around me have a mixed opinion on whether i’m a bad person or not.

MASK WEARING IN THAILAND IS NO LONGER MANDATORY

0

As of 23 June, According to a statement published in the Thailand Health Ministry, the wearing of face masks outside and in public places is no longer mandatory, and people are free to choose whether or not to wear one.

The adjusted measures come as the COVID-19 situation has improved, with the number of new infections, serious cases, and fatalities progressively declining in recent weeks, allowing people to resume a normal life.

Still recommended

The Thailand authorities recommend that individuals should continue to wear masks in crowded locations or settings where social separation is impossible or ventilation is inadequate.

Groups of people who are over the age of 60 and have a number of health problems are recommended to continue wearing a mask as contracting COVID-19 could complicate conditions of those who have illnesses

Individuals infected with Covid-19 and their high-risk contacts, as well as those suffering from respiratory disorders, should all wear masks for their own protection.

The announcement added that entertainment venues, pubs, bars, and cafes serving alcohol are permitted to operate as long as they follow the law and take disease control measures.

Although the wearing of face masks outside was established in 2020, it became mandatory in April 2021, when the country experienced a fresh increase in COVID-19 infections.

The number of cases and fatalities has decreased in recent months, prompting the easing of restrictions like as the recent reopening of pubs and clubs and the abolition of the “Thailand Pass” required for overseas visitors on July 1.
