Gabriel Heng Jing Heng, 26-years-old, pleaded guilty to 3 counts of criminal intimidation, and 1 count each of unlawful stalking, mischief and voluntarily causing hurt.

He was sentenced to 1.5 years jail and fined $3,000 on 15 June, and is currently out on bail to settle some personal affairs before serving his sentence on 13 July.

What happened?

Heng met the victim in 2016 and was in an intimate relationship with her, who cannot be named due to a gag order to protect her identity.

They were however not dating.

From July 2018 to September 2019, he stalked, insulted and degraded her through vulgarities and demanding her to behave according to his wishes; showing up at her home numerous times.

The victim decided to end things with him in December 2017, which made Heng unhappy, and he continued to contact her, who relented and stayed in touch with him.

He demanded to meet her on several occasions, using vulgarities and threatening her via both text messages and verbally if she refused.

She the started ignoring him from 27 July 2018, and she received more than 100 missed calls from Heng within a few days.

He said that he can’t control himself anymore and that if she doesn’t meet him at 9pm, that day, he would burn her house down.

He also added that if she continued to ignore him, he would slash her mother when she opened the door and make sure one of her family members would be killed.

He then sent her pictures of himself in a car, telling her that he was on the way to her home inside a Grab car.

The victim then blocked him on Whatsapp and Telegram.

She also moved out of her home in August 2018 to stay with another relative until January 2019, so that she could avoid him.

Heng then used another mobile number to contact her on 25 July 2019.

The victim then ignored him and he then told her that he would kill her, her mother and her boyfriend.

One of his messages read: “I make sure you kneel down on the floor and beg again. I make sure I turn your whole life upside down.”

That same say, Heng knocked on her door at about 4pm and go tno response; he then threw a packet of coffee at the door before leaving, which was captured on the family’s CCTV.

Heng then told her “Hope you mum enjoyed the coffee”, before assuring her that he would go over again the next day with someone else.

Heng was charged 2 days alter and released on bail after his grandmother bailed him out, but he then breached his bail conditions by sending more text messages to the victim via his friend’s mobile phone.

Heng then sent photographs of her and her boyfriend’s instagram accounts to her Whatsapp.

Assaulted own grandmother

Heng went to his grandmother’s house to ask for money to hire lawyer in late October 2019.

She refused and Heng then punched her shoulder, telling her that he would burn down her house.

His grandmother then discharged herself of her responsibilities as his bailor.

Other misdemeanours

Heng also assaulted a colleague when he was working as a valet driver, as well as fighting with another driver at the Bukit Timah area in yet another incident, taunting him to fight.

A woman allegedly refused to put on a mask on board an SBS bus and challenged the bus captain to call the police, causing the bus journey to be delayed and resulting in 15 passengers having to alight and board the next bus.

The incident happened on 14 June at around 10.20pm, on board Bus 69 at Bedok Bus Interchange.

An eyewitness said that after the woman sat down, the bus captain tried to persuade her to put on a mask but she refused, getting into an argument with him.

The bus captain had to radio to his dispatch for help.

The woman then used vulgarities on the bus captain and challenged him to call the police.

The fiasco lasted for about 15 minutes and 15 of the passengers refused to be delayed any longer, deciding to alight from the bus and board another one.

The woman eventually also got off the bus.

An Indian girl shared her experiences growing up with racism.

She wrote that when she was at RGPS, she remembered being called a “black monster” by a group of Chinese girls who ran away in tears, screaming because she stared at them.

She also shared that a girl looked her dead in her eyes and told her “I don’t need an Indian to tell me what to do”, after she tried to explain to her what the teacher was saying.

Soon, the girl went to Secondary School and she thought things would change.

She shared that when she bought a plate of Chee Cheong Fun and poured the sweet sauce over it, a classmate laughed at her and said “you’re so lucky.”

The girl then asked “why?”

To which the classmate replied “if you spill the sauce on yourself, no one will notice, it’s the same colour as your skin hahaha.”

She wrote that she is now in JC, and is still facing the same racism.

She shared that during her 3rd day of orientation, she was called a “black girl” by a boy she had never met before, who explained that it was because he didn’t know her name.
