A 23-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of using stolen credit card information to conduct unauthorized purchases.

On March 11, 2022, the Police Department received a report from a victim who noticed many unauthorized transactions on his debit card.

Officers from the Bedok Police Division uncovered the man’s identity and apprehended him on April 19, 2022. Preliminary investigations indicated that the individual allegedly obtained the victim’s credit card details by unlawfully photographing the victim’s debit card without her consent. The man is also accused of using the victim’s debit card to make online in-game purchases and pay for medical consultation expenses totalling more than $1,200.

On April 21, 2022, the individual will be charged in court with illegally acquiring personal information and access with the purpose to commit cheating.

The crime of illegally acquiring information is punished by imprisonment for up to three years and a fine under Section 416A of the Penal Code 1871.

The offence of access with intent to commit cheating, punishable under Section 4(1) of the Computer Misuse Act 1993 read with Cheating under Section 417 of the Penal Code 1871, carries an imprisonment term that may extend up to 10 years, a fine not exceeding $50,000, or both.

The Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple has been closed on Sundays for a while now, but according to Shin Min Daily News, the temple will be open on Sundays and public holidays with effect from 1 May onwards.

However, devotees of the temple will still not be allowed to make offerings for the time being.

The Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, which is located at Waterloo Street, will be open on Sundays and public holidays from 7am to 6.30pm.

The afternoon queue will also be closed at 12.15pm and reopen at 1pm, where the temple will be undergoing some cleaning.

The updated opening hours is the first time the temple has opened on Sundays and public holidays since July last year.

Devotees visiting the temple are still required to put on their face masks and scan the SafeEntry to enter the temple.

The temple has also gotten rid of the odd-even NRIC numbers entry requirement earlier this year (February).

Malaysian death row inmate Nagaenthran Dharmalingam is set to be executed in Singapore on 27 April, said lawyer M. Ravi on a Facebook post dated 20 April.

Despite concerted efforts at appealing the decision, his death sentence is scheduled to commence next Wednesday.

Kokila Annamalai, an activist, shared in a Facebook post that Nagaenthran’s family learned of his impending execution via a phone call.

“Nagen’s family in Malaysia has just been informed via phone call that his execution will take place next Wednesday, 27 April.

Nagen’s sister Sarmila called us, sobbing. This is what she said.

“Just yesterday, I spent all day at the temple, praying for Nagen once again. I got to speak to him for 15 minutes on the phone, and told him about the prayers. He said he dreams of tasting the temple food once again. He was very upset because with the borders opening up and in-person visits now a possibility, the prison was going to stop his phone calls to his family. ‘I don’t know how I will get by without hearing your children’s voices. I’ll beg them for permission and call you one last time next Sunday. I want to hear our grandmother’s voice too,’ he said to me.

I was just talking to my husband this morning about getting passports for our children because Nagen is yearning to see them. I was so sure we could do something to help Nagen with all the campaigning, and all the attention. I even had some new ideas yesterday for other campaign possibilities. I can’t believe this is happening. When the prison officer called, I thought it was a dream. I still think its a dream. How can this be happening?

21-year-old Leong Jun Xian is linked to the OCBC phishing scam cases that cause many victims to lose a substantial amount of money totalling $12.8million.

Leong pleaded guilty yesterday to two counts of dealing with the benefits of criminal conduct and two counts of rioting.

Apart from Leong, there were 6 others who were part of the scam

• 19-year-old Brayden Cheng Ming Yan
• 20-year-old Jovan Soh Jun Yan
• 20-year-old Muhammad Khairuddin Eskandariah
• 21-year-old Lim Kai Ze

Two more accomplices cannot be named as they are below the age of 18.

Leong will be back in court in June for his sentencing.

For dealing with the benefits of criminal conduct Leong can be jailed up to 10 years and fined up to $500,000

Anyone found guilty of rioting can be jailed for up to 7 years and caned.

Leong who is a member of a gang gathered with 8 other gang members in November 2020 and fought another four people at Chinatown, Oriental Plaza.

According to Straits Times, The fight started because of staring. One of the gang members in Leong’s group belonged to Sio Kun Tong “18” and stared at another boy which triggered the fight.

Public advisory

SPF has also advised the public to remain vigilant at all times and not to let third parties use their own bank accounts or phone lines as they will also be implicated into the crime should their bank accounts or lines be used in criminal activities.

They also said that all efforts will be expended by the SPF to establish the identities of anyone involved in scamming others and once they are caught, they will be dealt with firmly and lawfully.
