The now-infamous Beach Road slasher who allegedly used a chopper to hack away at a woman outside an eatery, is reportedly separated from the victim, according to Straits Times.

The 46-year-old man and the 41-year-old victim have two children together (a son and a daughter), and the workers of the restaurants in the area said that they come from China.

An employee from Zhong Hua Steamboat, Mr Wei Chen Xiang, spoke to ST and said that the victim was a friendly woman who has been working at Chong Qing Steamboat for about a year.

She was described as a good-natured person who always said hello with a smile.

The owner of Samurai BBQ, Mr Leonard Shi, told ST that the woman had planned to return to China some time ago, but chose to stay on to help her boss with his business here.

The staff members of Chong Qing Steamboat declined to speak any further and said that they were in the midst of assisting the police with investigations.

The owner of Chong Qing Steamboat, Edmund Tan, also revealed his account of the incident on a Facebook live stream, alongside his visibly traumatized daughter.

SPCA uploaded photos of cats getting hurt after getting trapped on glue traps on Facebook. The glue traps are typically used to catch rats but the poor community cats ended up getting stuck to it.

STOP USING GLUE TRAPS – YOU’RE KILLING OUR CATS

Cats turning up to our #SPCASingapore Community Animal Clinic covered in glue is a constant and painful occurrence. It’s so common that sometimes we can get up to 3-4 cases in just a week.

We have long advocated against the use of glue traps due to the harm and extreme suffering it causes to the unintended victim. When an animal gets caught in these traps, their struggle to escape causes chunks of fur to be ripped from their skin. If the glue is excessive – it is impossible for an animal to escape, and they may very likely lose their lives.

Even when rescued and brought to an animal clinic, the removal of glue from the animals is a painstaking process, and unfortunately, not all survive the traumatising experience.

There are numerous other humane alternatives for pest-trapping, and we urge the public to make a change. Stop using glue traps to stop killing the animals.

A video of a SBS Transit double-decker bus is currently circulating after it appeared to have mounted the kerb and knock over a signboard at the taxi stand.

The incident happened along Telok Blangah Road, it somehow ran onto the roadside lawn and knocked over a taxi stop. Fortunately, no one was injured.

According to a video, a double-decker bus No. 145 of SBS Transit was parked in front of a bus stop, and the entire front and left side of the bus rushed onto the roadside lawn, believed to be stuck and unable to move. Two passengers, one old and one young, got out of the car through the rear door.

The video also shows that there is a fallen “taxi drop off (point)” sign on the lawn in front of the left of the bus, which is believed to have been hit by the bus.

Kinokuniya is closing down their outlet in at JEM on 9 May because they are not able to afford the rent anymore, according to The Straits Times.

Yukihiro Kawakami, the Asia-Pacific group managing director for Kinokuniya, told ST that over the last 2 years, their rent had been affordable due to the subsidies by the government.

However, they are facing increased rental charges brought about by the new normal.

He also revealed that even before the start of the pandemic, they were facing prolonged sluggish sales, impacting their investment returns.

The workers, who number less than 10, will be redeployed to other outlets.

Once the JEM outlet closed, the Japanese bookstore will be left with 2 remaining outlets at Bugis Junction and Ngee Ann City.

Kawakami added that they’ll “play it by ear as we’re trying to minimise stock return to local suppliers for overall damage control.”

He added: “We seek book lovers’ support for all of us in the book industry through these rough times.”
