POSB SCAM EMAIL OFFERS $110 TO TARGET GREEDY PEOPLE

Scammers are actively targeting POSB customers through phishing emails. Targeted customers will receive emails from non-POSB email accounts. These emails claim to be a POSB Passion Rewards survey and that 500 customers who fill out the survey will receive a cash reward or air miles.

How to identify:

If a customer clicks on the link, the customer will be redirected to a phishing site and asked to fill out a survey before providing their personal information and credit or debit card details, such as date of birth, mobile number, card number, expiration date, and CVV. Should a customer provide this information, the phishing site displays a page requesting the customer’s SMS OTP.

The scammer will exploit the stolen information to conduct unauthorised card transactions.

If you have provided your credit or debit card details and CVV combination to this phishing website, we strongly recommend contacting us immediately using our official hotline numbers.

Customers are reminded to ensure they are on DBS’s official website or use DBS’s official mobile applications to conduct any DBS bank-related requests. Go directly to https://www.dbs.com to ensure that you are on our website.

A 49-year-old Australian man, Andrew Gosling, pleaded guilty on 25 February to committing a rash act that led to the death of 73-year-old Nasiari Sunee.

He also admitted to causing grievous hurt to the deceased’s wife, Ms Manisah Sitri, was suffered injuries to her right shoulder.

Gosling had thrown a wine bottle down from the 7th storey of a condominium in Spottiswoode Park Road in 2019, and as a result, cause the death of Nasiari who suffered a fatal skull fracture.

What happened?

Andrew Gosling was at the lift landing on the 7th floor on 18 August 2019 at about 8.30pm when he threw a wine bottle down at a group of people on the 5th floor barbecue area.

The deceased was attending a housewarming party of a relative when the wine bottle hit him, and it also hit his wife.

The deceased’s eldest daughter, spoke to Straits Times in an interview that their relatives had heard two thuds before her father fell onto the floor with a wound on his head.

A glass bottle was then spotted nearby and one of the relatives who is a nurse, attended to his injuries before he was conveyed to SGH in an ambulance.

The eldest daughter said that her father’s heart stopped three times during the treatment and the family ultimately decided not to revive him if it stopped for a fourth time, because they didn’t want to prolong his pain.

The victim passed away the next morning at 9am after his blood pressure dipped, and he was buried on 20 August.

The police then went door to door at the condo in an attempt to find the suspect after the incident, and residents were reportedly shown a picture of an Italian wine bottle.

They were also asked if they were willing to provide fingerprint samples and if they had been drinking wine, and Gosling was then arrested on 28 August.

PRC MEN ARRESTED, MORE THAN 1.6K CARTONS OF CONTRABAND CIGGS SEIZED

Two male Chinese nationals aged 32 and 42 were arrested by Singapore Customs and more than 1,600 cartons of duty unpaid cigarettes were seized in an operation conducted near Marsiling Crescent heavy Vehicle Park on 23 February.

The Singapore Customs put out a media release detailing the events of the operation.

Singapore Customs arrested two male Chinese nationals, aged 32 and 42, and seized more than 1,600 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes in an operation on 23 February 2022.

Case information

During the operation conducted in the vicinity of Marsiling Crescent Heavy Vehicle Park, Singapore Customs officers spotted two men transferring goods covered in black trash bags from a Singapore-registered truck to a Singapore-registered van.

Suspecting that they were dealing with duty-unpaid cigarettes, officers moved in and found 1,636 cartons and 80 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes. A follow-up search at one of the man’s residence led to additional seizure of one carton and six packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes.

Both men were arrested. A total of 1,637 cartons and 86 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes and the two vehicles were seized. The total duty and Goods and Services tax (GST) evaded amounted to about $140,390.00 and $11,170.00 respectively.

Court proceedings against both men are ongoing.

Buying, selling, conveying, delivering, storing, keeping, possessing or dealing with duty-unpaid goods are serious offences under the Customs Act and the GST Act.

Offenders can be fined up to 40 times the amount of duty and GST evaded and/or jailed for up to six years. Vehicles used in the commission of such offences are liable to be forfeited.

Singapore activist Gilbert Goh shared a story about an elderly man that he met during one of his charity events and who lives alone in a house with no chair, no mattress, no tv, no fridge, no table and etcetera.

Here is the story

Bumped into this elderly uncle who lives alone and offered him our meal pack and $50 angbao during  yesterday’s meals distribution.

He does not have much in the house – no chair, no mattress, no TV, no fridge, no table, no washing machine, no stove among many no’s we come to know as must-have so that we can live decently.

The team was appalled at the sheer emptiness of the house and how someone can live like this.

He uses a table and some cardboard to block off peering eyes into his house which initially caught our attention as it’s quite unique and innovative.

He also has some difficulty opening his lock which is numbered and it took him a while to allow us to gain access to his place.

However, he is friendly and open to assistance as we assess what essentials to get for him so he can live better.

He also informs us that his mother recently passed away and lives alone by himself.

The government has being providing him some assistance and he mentions about monthly CPF payment.

We spent a while talking to him and a volunteer will look into purchasing some essential household items in the near future.

Empty homes like his is quite a common feature nowadays as elderly residents just don’t have sufficient resources to purchase any household items. They rather save up for essentials such as food, rental and electricity bill.

Do something good for Singapore – a charity movement to alleviate the hardships of displaced elderly Singaporeans.

The taxi driver who drove a man who was armed with a knife to Clementi Police Station and ultimately got shot by the police, was awarded for his efforts.

The taxi driver, Goh Wui Teck, was awarded with the Public Spiritedness Award for his help.

On 24 February 2022, Clementi Police Division presented the Public Spiritedness Award to three members of the public for rendering timely assistance to the Police in relation to a case of Criminal Intimidation and Voluntarily Causing Hurt with a Dangerous Weapon.

Case Commended for Public Spiritedness Award

On 17 February 2022 at about 8.40pm, the Police were alerted to a case where a 41-year-old man was purportedly assaulted by a 49-year-old man with a knife along Block 420A Clementi Avenue 1. The 41-year-old man suffered injuries on his right arm and wrist and was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

The 49-year-old man then boarded a taxi to Clementi Police Division and was seen holding a knife and standing outside the Police station. On duty Police officers approached the man, and he was observed to be shouting incoherently. Despite the officers’ repeated instructions to drop the knife, the man refused to comply with the verbal warnings and charged towards one of the officers, while armed with a knife. As there was imminent threat to the officer, he then fired one shot at the man with his service revolver. The man was then detained by the officers. The 49-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm. He was conveyed conscious to hospital and is currently in a stable condition.

Mr Goh Wui Teck, had promptly alerted the officers deployed at the guardhouse of Clementi Police Division when he found out that his passenger, which turned out to be the 49-year-old man, was carrying a knife onboard his taxi. He had also returned to the scene of the shooting to assist the police in investigations. His action of providing timely information to the Police had allowed the officers to appreciate the situation very quickly and assisted in the arrest of the man. The 49-year-old man was charged on 18 February 2022 for the offences of criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.

Two other members of the public had also provided timely information of the man’s whereabouts and rendered first aid to the 41-year-old man who was slashed by the 49-year-old man before he was conveyed to the hospital. Their vigilance and selflessness helped the Police in the arrest of the man and prevented a potential loss of life.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Marc E, Commander of Clementi Police Division, expressed his appreciation to the award recipients for their public spiritedness. He said, “ We would like to thank the members of the public for their assistance in managing the incident. Their assistance in rendering first aid to the injured man had helped save a live, and their alertness and timely information to the Police on the whereabouts of the assailant, had helped us to resolve the incident quickly and decisively.”

Between the 11th and 24th of February 2022, officers from the Commercial Affairs Department and the seven Police Land Divisions undertook a two-week operation.

A total of 167 males and 77 women, aged 15 to 77, are now aiding in investigations for their alleged involvement in frauds as money mules or scammers.

They are suspected of being involved in over 510 incidents of scams, mostly Internet love scams, e-commerce scams, tech support scams, China/Government Officials impersonation scams, investment scams, employment scams, and loan scams, in which victims lost over $4.3 million.

The individuals are being probed for suspected cheating, money laundering, and offering payment services without a license.

Cheating is punishable by up to ten years in jail and a fine

Money laundering is punishable by up to ten years in jail, a fine of up to $500,000, or both under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking, and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act of 1992.

Carrying on a company to provide any sort of payment service in Singapore without a licence is punishable by a fine of up to $125,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both under Section 5 of the Payment Services Act 2019.

Here is the story

I turned down a guy who won’t take no for an answer and I have to see him in person again, how can I turn him down without bringing danger to myself?

I (f18) recently turned down a guy (m18) in my class by text because he made me uncomfortable. We had only talked for a total of maybe twenty minutes in person over the span of a few days.

He ended up blowing up on me and argued with me for three hours.

I could have and should have just stopped responding and blocked him immediately, but I struggle with making anyone unhappy and I just wanted the conversation to leave off on at least a neutral note.

This didn’t happen. I have to see him again on Monday and he scares me.

He has a list of girls he wrote fanfiction about and I made the mistake of not saying no to a date with him when I didn’t know about it (didn’t say yes either).

He told me I owe him at least one date and that things could be dangerous for me without him. I feel extremely uncomfortable around him, and missed school for a day just to not see him.

A PRC woman was charged in the State Courts for assisting others to retain benefits from criminal conduct, cheating and forgery on Feb 25.

A victim who lost USD$952,000 (Over a million Singapore dollars) was defrauded into transferring the money to a Singapore company that was run by Chen.

Investigations revealed that Chen was a director of the Company. Sometime between March 2019 and 28 July 2020, she was allegedly concerned about an arrangement to allow the Company’s bank account to receive criminal proceeds.

Sometime in June 2019, she allegedly forged three invoices for the purpose of cheating the bank as to the source and purpose of the funds. Between April 2019 and September 2019, Chen had also allegedly cheated an employee of a corporate service provider (“CSP”) into making lodgements with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (“ACRA”), pertaining to the transfer of two companies’ directorships to an individual, when the said individual did not so consent.

  1. One count under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crime for allegedly being concerned in an arrangement to facilitate the retention by another of the benefits from criminal conduct.

  2. Three counts for allegedly forging three invoices for the purpose of cheating the bank as to the source and purpose of the funds.

    If found guilty of the offence, for each count, one shall be liable on conviction, to imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine; and
  3. Five counts for allegedly cheating the employee of the CSP into making lodgements with ACRA.

    If found guilty of the offence, for each count, one shall be liable on conviction, to imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, a fine, or both.

So this is about my mother, not MIL. My wife and I are planning a trip to USS, just us and the kids.

My mother watches the kids since she is retired. My wife mentioned the vaca when picking up the kids yesterday.

Today I drop the kids off in the morning. My mother: I heard you’re going to USS.

Dad: You better bring your mother with you, that’s why she bought that scooter.

Mother: Are you bringing me with you?

The incident happened only a day after Ukraine was invaded by Russia. The tank deliberately manoeuvres into the pathway of the car to crush it.
