I’m a proud father of another beautiful baby daughter born yesterday, I’m amazed at how many people subtlety express ‘disappointment’ that I didn’t have a son.

This is our third daughter. My wife and I are 3 for 3. We are beyond happy. We left this one as a surprise so we didn’t find out the gender until she was born.

Our two other daughters talked all the time about wanting a sister. From the start, I said I hoped and wanted another daughter. So many people would say “no I think you’re having a boy” and I would say, nope, I’m almost certain it’s going to be a girl.

Thing is. I love being a girl dad. It’s been the crowning achievement of my life to be blessed with now 4 amazing females in my life.

But man I can’t stand the whole “are you going to try for a boy?” from my parents Or “are you okay you didn’t have a son?” And every other derivation of a similar theme.

Now granted it’s not everyone. It’s mostly people who still have cultural patriarchal mindsets. But still, I honestly don’t get it.

Anyways, just wanted to vent.

18,597 NEW CASES IN SINGAPORE, 11 FATALITIES


The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported a total of 18,597 new cases on 25th February 2022 with 11 fatalities.

18,383 are local and 214 are imported cases.

The weekly growth rate is 1.26

Case details

Of the 18,597 new cases, 15,411 cases are tested positive through ART of which 15,313 are local and 98 are imported.

3,186 cases were confirmed after testing with PCR with 3070 local cases and 116 imported cases.

MOH reported 11 death cases bringing to death toll to 986.

Other data:

There are currently 1,584 patients in the hospital with 211 of them requiring oxygen and 46 are in the ICU.

94% of Singapore’s population has completed the vaccination program.

67% of Singapore’s population has received booster shots.

Statistics

In total Singapore has recorded 679,795 COVID-19 cases from the start of the coronavirus.

The death toll is 986.

In the last 28 days, there were 335,780 amount of cases with 99.7% of them with no or mild symptoms, 0.2% required oxygen supplementation, 0.04% is in the ICU, 0.03% died.

In a video interview with the Straits Times, ex actor, Ix Shen, who is Singaporean shares about life in Ukraine amidst the current crisis that the country is facing with Russian forces invading the country.

Air raid 30 minutes before he was interviewed

The Straits Times was in the process of interviewing Shen, who is in Ukraine, via zoom and was told that just 30 minutes before the interview, there was an air raid in the neighbourhood.

Shen was taking the interview at the balcony of his apartment in Ukraine which overlooks the whole neighbourhood.

He then shares that in the distance about 20 to 40km away, an instant flash was seen in the background.

Initially, Shen thought that that were passing clouds but later figured that clouds do not usually move that fast.

Just three seconds later, a loud explosion was heard and Shen knew that it was caused by the Armed Forces in the distance.

Does not plan to come back

Shen, who moved to Ukraine last year with his Ukrainian wife, does not plan on coming back.

His Ukrainian wife is serving the Ukrainian army as a reservist medical officer and there is a high chance that she will be mobilised by the army.

In Shen’s stockpile are adequate amounts of water and rations which can last him through a long period of time.

Electricity and Internet services are still working and Shen further said that as long as these are working, he does not see a need to escape from Ukraine yet.

He had already made evacuation plans and will execute them should the need arises, but said that it would be more dangerous to evacuate than stay put at where he is.

He also said that maybe he should tape up his windows in case they cannot withstand the possible upcoming shockwaves.

Talked about the resilience of Ukrainians

Shen also spoke about the resilience of the Ukrainians and said that he has noticed more soldiers being activated by the Government since Russia came knocking onto their borders.

He added that the mood in the capital is now ‘tense’ due to the start of the invasion already occuring.

Most stores are either closed or have ceased operations due to the city being placed on a curfew by the military.

Shen also said that the Ukrainians which he encountered does not seem to be panicky, but rather resilient.

On his part, he wishes to stay behind to play a part as he would not be able to live with himself if he just left like that.

Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has on 25 Feb ordered the full mobilisation of Ukraine’s military forces in response to the threats by Russia.

Singapore’s Defence Minister, Dr Ng Eng Hen, posted on his Facebook account about his thoughts on the current crisis in Ukraine.

He started his post by saying that he had earlier mentioned that the mood at the Munich Security Conference earlier this year was quite sombre and many leaders which he had spoken to at the conference felt that Ukraine will come under attack soon.

He added that whatever that was said had happened as he touched down back into Singapore and it is hard to come to terms with this act of aggression after the world had relatively enjoyed peace for 80 years.

He also said that due to this war, countless of innocent lives will be lost and disrupted and it will be followed by hardship and suffering.

Dr Ng continues by saying that he hopes and pray that peace will restore in Ukraine soon and Singapore must also learn that we can never take the peaceful times for granted.

He also resolved to strengthen the defence capabilities of Singapore through strengthening the capabilities of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and also through partnerships with countries who think the same as us.

“I reported that the mood at the Munich Security Conference was sombre this year. The assessment of many leaders I spoke with was that an attack on Ukraine was imminent. Even as I touched down in Singapore, it has come to pass. It’s hard to reconcile this aggression after experiencing nearly 80 years of relative peace – cities within Ukraine have been turned into war zones overnight. Lives of innocent civilians there will be disrupted or lost. Hardship and suffering will inevitably follow.

We continue to hope and pray for peace to be restored. But we remind ourselves too, never to take peace for granted, and resolve for Singapore to strengthen our defence deterrence through a capable SAF and partnerships with like-minded countries.”

SPF GIVES FINAL UPDATE ABOUT TREMORS IN SPORE

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has released a final update about the tremors felt earlier in the morning today (25 Feb) across many places in Singapore.

The tremors occurred due to a magnitude 6.0 earthquake which happened in Northern Sumatra.

In the update by the SPF, they mentioned that at about 5.22pm today, inspection works to the structural safety of buildings in Singapore were completed by engineers sent by the authorities such as the Housing Development Board (HDB) and the Building Construction Authority (BCA).

The inspections were done on 42 buildings affected by the tremors.

It has also been confirmed by the HDB and the BCA that the structural integrity of the affected buildings were not affected by the tremors earlier in the morning.

“[FINAL UPDATE] ADVISORY ON TREMORS REPORTED IN SINGAPORE

At about 5.22pm on 25 February 2022, engineers from the HDB and BCA completed the inspection on the structural safety of 42 buildings affected by the tremors caused by the earthquake in Northern Sumatra.

They have confirmed that the structural integrity of all the buildings have not been affected by the tremors.”

A Ukrainian woman was seen on footage scolding a Russian soldier saying that they are ‘occupants’ and fascists.

She also gave them sunflower seeds and asked them to put those seeds in their pockets so that sunflowers will grow from the seeds when they die.

Several footages of the exchange were posted on Twitter, it was first uploaded by Internews Ukraine on the first day of the Russian invasion.

Another video seemingly taken by the woman who confronted the Russian soldier herself offers a point of view (POV) footage of the whole exchange.

Translation on what the woman said

Another post on Twitter offers the whole translation of the video of what the woman had said to the Russian soldier.

The exchange apparently occurred after the Russian soldier told the woman to go away because they are conducting some exercises at where she was.

The woman had asked them if they are Russian soldiers to which the soldiers affirmed her suspicions.

After the soldiers affirmed that they were Russians, the woman then asked them:

“So what the *fish* are you doing here?”

The soldiers told her that their conversation will not have an ending which prompted the woman to reply:

“You’re occupants, you’re fascists! What the *fish* are you doing on our land with all these guns? Take these seeds and put them in your pockets, so at least sunflowers will grow when you all lie down here.”

After saying what she said, she repeated the part of the sunflower seeds:

“Put the sunflower seeds in your pockets, please. You will lie down here with the seeds. You came to my land. Do you understand? You are occupiers. You are enemies.”

The sunflower is said to be the national symbol of Ukraine.

MAN ALLEGEDLY SCAM MULTIPLE PRC WOMEN BY GIVING THEM “FAKE ENTRY PERMITS”

A PRC woman claimed was locked up by the authorities after she allegedly provided fake entry permits to enter Singapore at the airport.

A number of the victims said that they paid from a few hundred Singapore dollars to over a few thousand dollars to an agent in Singapore who claims that he has the ability to apply and get approval for entry permits to Singapore.

After several transfers ranging from hundreds to thousands, he sends them PDF copies of “Entry Permits”.

One of the victims arrived in Singapore with the fake entry permit and claims that she was stopped by customs officers and ended in lockup for 8 days because of the forged travel documents.

On her release, she informed her friends of her unfortunate encounter and told a Singaporean man about how she was scammed.

Alleged Culprit

A WeChat post is currently going viral of a Singaporean man believed to be the perpetrator behind the scams, his NRIC, photos and other personal details are posted on Wechat.

In the post, it indicates that the man has two other China national accomplice who is helping the man and to convince their fellow countryman to “apply for entry permits” through him and it is believed that they will get a commission.

The post has stated that this is not the first time this happened and victims have stepped forward and stated that they have been scammed by the man before. As he keeps switching his WeChat ID, victims have a hard time figuring out whether the “agency” is legit.

SPORE RED CROSS CONTRIBUTES USD 100,000 IN AID TO UKRAINE

The Singapore Red Cross has announced that they will be contributing USD 100,000 in aid to help communities in Ukraine affected by the invasion of Russia.

The USD 100,000 in aid will be in terms of provision supplies such as hygiene kits, family kits and household kits.

These kits will be distributed to the vulnerable who have been displaced by the ongoing conflict.

It is also noted by the Singapore Red Cross that 3 million people in Ukraine requires the humanitarian aid and about 850,000 people have been displaced.

The elderly forms up 30 percent of those who require aid

Message from Spore Red Cross CEO

The CEO of Singapore Red Cross has given a statement which said:

“We are deeply concerned about the outbreak of open conflict and its dire consequences. 

The humanitarian needs on the ground will continue to rise as the conflict intensifies.

Working with our Red Cross Movement partners, we will continue to assist the affected communities, many of whom could potentially lose their homes and all their belongings.”

In contact with other Red Cross

The Singapore Red Cross also said that it is maintaining close contact with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to find out what is needed on the ground so that it can respond to the evolving situation timely.

Called for protection of non-combatants

The Red Cross has also called for protection of non-combatants and infrastructure which are critical such as water and power systems in Ukraine.

All these which are called for are in line with the International Humanitarian Law which is accepted by the whole universe.

Assisting families to get in touch

The Singapore Red Cross is also trying to help Singaporeans locate their family members in Ukraine who may have been affected by the conflict.

This will be done by their activation of the ‘Restoring Families Link’ (RFL) service.

TEACHER FILMS POLICE OFFICER, STUDENTS & COLLEAGUES ‘DOING BUSINESS’ IN TOILET

A 49 year old man who worked as a Teacher pleaded guilty in court today (25 Feb) for taking videos of his fellow colleagues and students in the gents in school, as well as several men in his condominium’s clubhouse toilet.

He was caught because he stupidly tried to take a recording of a Police Investigation Officer in his condominium’s clubhouse toilet.

What happened

Between February 2017 and April 2018, he had took almost 128 of such videos.

117 out of the 128 were taken in the toilet urinals or in his condo’s clubhouse toilet and all were without consent.

The remaining nine videos which showed content of men ‘stroking’ themselves with their genitals in full view were allegedly consented by those in the film.

The Modus Operandi (MO) used by the teacher would be to stand at the urinal next to the one his victims were using and start to film them.

Many of the videos exposed the man’s face and genitals and three of them captured young boys showering in the toilet.

There were a minimum of three videos of his fellow teachers in school and also a minimum of two of his students.

He was then arrested on 15 April 2018 when he targeted the wrong person.

Tried to film Police Officer

A 31 year old investigation officer from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) had went for a swim and decided to take a shower in the condo’s toilet before drying himself on a bench.

The teacher then went into the toilet to carry out his MO, this time on the pretext of finding his access card.

He then stood on a bench where the SPF officer was and pointed his phone camera downwards towards him, saying that he had left his access card on the shower ledge.

He then left the toilet in a hurry after managing to record a minute long video.

This arose the suspicions of the SPF officer who went to retrieve his lanyard and warrant card from his relative’s unit before searching for the teacher.

After he found the teacher, he identified himself and told the teacher what his suspicions were which the teacher replied that he did not film the SPF officer undressed.

However, the teacher handed the iPhone over, pleaded for a chance and at the guardhouse, unlocked his phone and out popped the video he recorded.

A Police report was then lodged by the security guard on duty.

Penalties

If the teacher is convicted of making obscene films, he can receive an imprisonment term of up to two years and/or fined up to $40,000.

For public nuisance, he can be fined up to $1,000.

Those convicted of voyeurism can be given up to two years imprisonment, fined, caned or any of the three.

His sentencing date is due on 23 March.

A reel which was taken at the drop off point at Tan Tock Seng Hospital was uploaded onto Tiktok by a Tikoker, Benedict Yeo who witnessed the whole incident.

He was sending his wife to work when he chanced upon the interaction between an AETOS Security Officer and a Elderly couple and the family.

Details of interaction

In the 2 minute long reel, an elderly man was seen being carried by his son to the wheelchair provided by the hospital which was brought over by another man.

The elderly man was frail and was facing problems adjusting himself steadily on the wheelchair.

The AETOS officer was then seen unsympathetically clapping twice to gesture the family to move their vehicle away and was also heard telling the family to move the vehicle further down the road on more than one occasion.

This was despite the family waving to him telling him that they need more time due to the elderly man’s immobility.

The AETOS officer then told the son that his vehicle which was stationarily parked there would cause incoming cars to create a jam in the whole area.

He could be heard saying:

“But rule is rule, you go in front hor. Don’t park here!”

This was when the elderly woman got fed up with him and said to him:

 “I said sorry ok! I said sorry!”

She then spoke to him in her dialect to explain that they did so because both herself and the elderly man could not walk very far given their issues.

Comments from netizens

Yeo, who uploaded the reel, felt that the AETOS officer could have shown some sympathy to the elderly couple and their family instead of being so strict and stern with his duties.

TTSH suspended officer from duties

Yeo had also written in to the management of Tan Tock Seng Hospital, who seemed to have suspended the officer from his duties while investigating the matter with AETOS according to their post on Facebook which wrote:

“We were alerted last night to an incident involving an AETOS security officer being rude to an elderly couple at our hospital entrance.

The officer has been immediately removed from his duties at TTSH. We are investigating further with AETOS.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital values mutual respect and the safety and well-being of everyone in our hospital. We will work with our vendor partners to reinforce these same values to their staff deployed here. Our appreciation to members of the public for alerting us to this.”
