GUY COMPLAINS GRAB FARE EX, RATHER USE BLUESG

A netizen has taken to social media to complain about the ‘exorbitant’ rates charged by ride hailing company, Grab, for a trip from 9A Boon Tiong Road to 449 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.

The fare which was quoted by Grab at that point of time was $20.30, with a surge arrow shown in the pricing.

The drop off time shown was between 3:48am to 3:57am, which seems like the netizen was attempting to book a car at about 3:20am.

The netizen then says that he chose to rent a BlueSG to drive in the end which only costs half the price at $9.36.

He also suggested that everyone should learn how to drive now to save money.

“This company is charging so ex just from Tiong Bahru to AMK…so I decided to drive instead using BlueSG and it cost half the price only… I think we must all start to learn how to drive already in order to save $$$”

  • You pay this additional price in grab for insurance, convienece, for lesser stress and to give others a living.
  • It’s not safe to think rental cars cheaper when and if you have not driven for quite some time ..The traffic rules forgotten and maybe caught on camera.. fines …and will be more expensive in insurance if car damaged. Just an observation..
  • Your logic simi or what sia. U pay for a service to drive u there n from the screenshot its currently experience a surge pricing, there is a GRAB discount coupon for CNY to offset the cost. U can choose to take a meter cab also what or take public transport.
  • Come on it’s 3 am in the morning and even taxis also has surcharges after 11pm so up to $26 for PHV/taxi is quite normal, yes rental is cheaper base on your attachment but that’s to your destination, not forgetting you have to return the car to the place that you drive off if your intention is to drive home so car rental doesn’t serve the purpose, there are always other options, you can either wait till 6am to catch the first public transport service home or you can walk home if you can’t part that $26.
  • I have stopped using all PHV platforms. The surge is crazy. I remember once I tried to book one from Harbour front to Yishun, the fare from GoJek was $65, and Grab was $48.I took a normal Taxi, and cost me only $26.PHV is for convenient sake, but its no longer cheaper compare to normal Taxi, at time, much more expensive.

A photo has emerged on social media taken by a netizen whose car was apparently stopped by a Land Transport Authority (LTA) officer for a check.

In the picture, the LTA officer can be seen on fours on the floor bending down to check the under carriage of the vehicle with his bottoms in a propped up facing the photo taker.

With nothing better to do, the photo taker then positioned his foot in the direction of the LTA officer’s bottom as if as he wanted to ‘kick’ the officer who was just doing his job.

The photo was taken today on 3rd February 2022 and then posted up for social media by the netizen seemingly just for fun and laughter.

Someone even tagged the Singapore Police Force in the comments section and asked why is the guy kicking the officer.

In this situation even though the netizen was just trying to be funny, it is unclear if the netizen will get into any trouble with the law for what he or she has done.

However, it is definitely uncool to be doing this to someone who is also just going around to do his duties to keep our roads safe.

A TikTok user, Bruce Mathieu, shared a video showing a man grilling some pork trotters on a drain, using the drain’s covers as a BBQ grill.

He was seen holding onto a blow torch and using it to cook the pork that he laid out onto the drain.

Bruce said that he was at Block 82, Macpherson Lane; adding “I don’t believe what I’m seeing,” he then recorded the man cooking the pork trotters on the drain grill

The man said that he was burning the hair off the pork trotters, as Bruce said that he doesn’t recommend doing this.

Environment Public Health Act

Under the Environmental Public Health Act, it is illegal to prepare food outside in a manner that is unhygienic.

NEA previously mentioned that they will not hesitate to take firm action against those who are found guilty of breaching the Environmental Public Health Act.

A post has emerged online about a conversation between a FoodPanda rider and a customer who had ordered something from the FoodPanda app.

In the conversation, it was seen that the customer was asking the rider for a favour to help him get a Nintendo Switch game, Pokemon legend of arcues from a Game store in Compass One shopping centre which the customer said that he will pay in cash if the rider helps him to do so.

The rider agreed at the end of the conversation which goes:

C: I’ll pay you by cash.
C: Hello?
R: What thing?
C: Can you get me a copy of a Nintendo Switch Game
C: Called Pokemon legend of arcues
C: There’s a game store in Compass One too so it’s not too far
R: *Shows ‘ok’ hand sign emoji

The customer did not state any reason to the rider on why he or she could not have gotten the game by himself/herself.

It was also noted that the rider had wanted to cancel this order as he feels that it is troublesome and nonsensical for him to have to fork out extra time to accede to this customer’s request.

A fellow rider had also asked the rider to call the FoodPanda dispatcher to reject the customer on his behalf but he claimed that the dispatcher had ask him to proceed with the delivery and request.

Along with Norway and Denmark, France is also beginning to remove some of its Covid-19 restrictions, following a drop in the average number of cases.

According to AFP, masks will no longer be required to be worn outdoors, and audience capacity limits for events such as football matches and concerts had been relaxed from 2,000 people to 5,000 people.

Working from home is also no longer mandatory, although the French authorities are recommending it still.

The Prime Minister of France, Jean Castex, said that they could make this move because of their vaccination pass, where the public is required to present proof of vaccination in order to enter places such as restaurants and public transport.

They have also removed the use of a negative Covid test as a means of entry to get more people to get jabbed.

Another stage of restriction easements will be due to take place on 16 February, where establishments such as nightclubs will be reopening.

The French government is viewing the Omicron variant as less dangerous than previous variants, and a spokesperson said that while the average number of infections has been falling, they remain cautious over the emergence of the Omicron sub-variant.

A 78-year-old Singaporean man pleaded guilty to a charge of voyeurism and was sentenced on 3 February to 6 months in prison.

He had installed a pinhole camera under a toilet door to record his daughter’s maid in the shower four times in three days.

The man used to be a teacher for more than 30 years.

The man cannot be named due to a court order protecting the identity of the victim.

What happened?

The maid was showering on 10 March 2021 at about 3.40pm when she noticed the pinhole camera under the door, with a cable attached to it.

The maid then turned off the shower and put on her clothes, she then emerged from the toilet and saw the man praying inside his bedroom.

She confronted him but he denied doing anything wrong, but later admitted to his daughter that he had put a camera under the toilet while the victim was in the shower.

The maid then went to lodge a police report with the offender and his daughter at a neighbourhood police centre on the same day.

Following investigations, the man was revealed to have been operating a borescope from 8 to 10 March, intending to observe the maid showering without her permission, on 4 occasions.

The device was seized on 11 March.

A video emerged online showing a couple of maids fighting with a group of men, with one of the men in a red shirt shouting and scolding her.

He was heard in the video shouting something unintelligible and shouting “show me your friend! show me your friend!”

The man appeared to have been intoxicated as another maid tried to push him away; another man then tried to pull him away.

The drunk man then tried to confront her again by climbing over some safety netting but was pulled back again as another man then stepped in.

The incident purportedly happened at Chinese Garden.

Potential penalties

Anyone who makes any noise in excess that is likely to cause annoyance or inconvenience to others in the vicinity or in any public setting could face fines of up to $1,000.

S’PORE APPROVES PFIZER COVID-19 PILL, FIRST ORAL MEDICATION TREATMENT

Singapore has approved the use of Pfizer’s Covid-19 pill, HSA has granted interim authorisation under the Pandemic Special Access Route (PSAR) for Pfizer’s PAXLOVIDTM, a combination of two medicines, nirmatrelvir (the antiviral medicine) and ritonavir.

Paxlovid Oral tablet

HSA said that this is the first oral tablet approved in Singapore for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 in adult patients who are at high risk of progression to severe disease, to reduce the risk of hospitalisation and death.

PAXLOVIDTM is to be taken twice daily for 5 days, and the treatment should be initiated as soon as possible after a diagnosis has been made, within 5 days of the onset of COVID-19 symptoms. It will be prescribed and prioritised to those at higher risk of severe COVID illness, as directed by the Ministry of Health.

Data of study

HSA said that the clinical study shows that AXLOVIDTM reduced the risk of COVID-19 related hospitalisation or death as compared to the placebo group by 88.9% when treatment was given within 3 days of onset of symptoms and 87.8% when given within 5 days of onset of symptoms.

The efficacy analysis included patients infected with the Delta variant. In vitro data has shown that PAXLOVIDTM is active against the prevailing variants of concern, including the Delta and Omicron variants.

This study was done to 2,000 participants ages 18 to 88 years old.

A 54-year-old Briton, Philip Richard Mockridge, allegedly failed to put on a face mask on 3 separate occasions, was previously charged in court under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act.

He is now (3 February) additionally being charged with voluntarily obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties.

Mockridge had allegedly refused to comply with an auxiliary police officer’s instruction to him to put on a mask when he showed up at the State Courts on 11 January at about 8.48am.

Mockridge is facing a total of 4 charges, with three of them being handed to him during his earlier hearing.

He allegedly failed to wear a mask on 26 November 2020 at Sengkang MRT station at about 10.15pm, Serangoon MRT station on 19 December 2020 at around 11pm, and at City Square Mall on 16 May 2021 at 8.47pm.

He is currently out on bail of $15,000 and his pretrial conference has been set ot 25 February.

For non-compliance with safe management measures under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020, offenders may be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.

Repeat offenders face a jail term of up to one year and a fine of up to $20,000.

For voluntarily obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties, persons found guilty face a jail term of up to 3 months as well as a fine of up to $2,500.

MAN JAILED FOR THROWING MOLOTOV COCKTAIL & CAUSED DEATH OF MOTORIST

Chan Suan Guan, 24-years-old, helped a loan shark to throw a Molotov cocktail into a house at Yio Chu Kang on 25 April 2020.

He was also found to break an offence under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act by leaving his home without a reasonable excuse that day to throw the Molotov at the home, which was during the circuit breaker.

He took a $30,000 loan from a loan shark but he could not repay it, he was then offered a job as a loanshark harasser.

Investigations revealed that he lit a bottle of thinner with a cloth before throwing it into a house in Yio Chu Kang.

He also allowed the loan shark to use his bank account to offset $250 worth of his debts a week.

He allegedly started his crime spree in November 2019 after he allegedly helped a certain “Kimberly” to carry out loan shark activities by handing over his ATM card and identification number linked to a bank account.

Separately, he is also being accused of causing the death of a motorcyclist with his van by driving recklessly.

He has since been sentenced to 11 months in jail, 3 strokes of the rotan and fined $63,000.

For causing the death of the motorcyclist he is banned from obtaining any driving license for 8 years.
