FINED FOR SMUGGLING ‘BALUT’ INTO SINGAPORE!

In April 2017, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority officers detected 148 cooked embryonated duck eggs, commonly known as ‘balut’ concealed in suitcases inside the boot and spare tyre compartment of a car, upon arrival at Tuas Checkpoint. The case was referred to AVA for investigation.

Today, Lea Soon Lieo @ Mohd Syukri Bin Sabri Lea, was fined $5,000 for illegally importing the eggs into Singapore. Another woman, Ramiscal Quenny Dela Cruz, was fined $2,500 for abetting the offence.

Smuggled food products are from unknown sources. Apart from food safety concerns, AVA has to remain vigilant to prevent diseases such as bird flu from being introduced into Singapore. While Singapore is free from bird flu, the disease is endemic in the region. Smuggled food products, which may not have undergone the necessary heat treatment to inactivate the virus, is a risk for public and animal health.

FINED FOR ILLEGAL IMPORT OF FRESH DUCK EGGS, MEAT PRODUCTS AND CORIANDER

photo: AVA

Acting on a tip-off, AVA intercepted a vehicle driven by Pahoon Thanat at Peninsular Plaza, and found that he had illegally imported 300 fresh duck eggs, 24kg of coriander and 5.5kg of meat products from Thailand. The products were seized and disposed.

Today, Thanat was fined $6,800 for illegal import of fresh duck egs, meat products and coriander.

In Singapore, the import of food is regulated for food safety and animal health reasons. Meat, eggs and their products, can only be imported from accredited sources in approved countries that comply with our food safety standards and requirements.

FEEDING PIGEONS IS AN OFFENCE THAT CARRIES A FINE OF UP TO $500: AVA

DO NOT FEED PIGEONS!

Pigeon droppings stain homes and public amenities. Diseases can also be spread to humans through contaminated droppings or through contact with diseased birds. Feeding pigeons is an offence that carries a fine of up to $500. Those who throw food from their HDB unit may also be prosecuted for high-rise littering.

To raise awareness on the problem of pigeon feeding, we recently collaborated with Ai Tong School students to reach out to residents at Thomson Sin Ming Court RC Resident’s Day and 24th Anniversary Celebration. Their colourful specially-designed recycled bags were a sure-hit with the residents!

FOOD PANDA ESTIMATED DELIVERY TIME 14 HOURS. FOR ME BREAKFAST AH?

So whats going on foodpanda?

You messed up my order, and had the gall to take forever to send my food?!

Update: so FoodPanda cancelled my order even though Carls jr confrmed that the order was ready and waiting for pickup by the foodpanda team at 9.30pm. I couldn’t even reach them after multiple calls to Carls jr who took an almost defensive and accusatory stand when i enquired about the order.

Germany has firm laws on hatred language and signs related to Hitler and the Nazis, who governed between 1933 and 1945.

The Reichstag is a influential representation in Germany.

It was ruined by fire in 1933 by an pyromaniac supposed to have been rewarded by the Nazis, who then accused the fire on the Communists and used it as an justification to harshly limit civil rights.
