Former Actor Ian Fang Sentenced to 40 Months for Sexual Offences Involving Minor
On May 19, 2025, Ian Fang, a former Mediacorp actor, was sentenced to 40 months in prison after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual activities with a minor. The victim, who was only 15 years old at the time of the incidents, was involved in a series of sexual encounters with Fang, who was 34 when they first met at an entertainment event in May 2024.
Fang, whose full name is Fang Wei Jie, faced a total of eight charges, three of which were for sexually penetrating the underage girl. The court also considered five additional charges during sentencing, which included harassment and obstructing justice. The sexual encounters reportedly took place on five separate occasions between June 6 and June 20, 2024, at various locations, including the Marina Bay Sands hotel and Fang’s residence.
In a disturbing twist, Fang was accused of attempting to influence the victim’s testimony. In August 2024, he allegedly contacted her, instructing her to plead with her mother not to pursue legal action against him. Furthermore, he was charged with stalking the girl, having made 18 phone calls to her in a single day and sending her messages on a karaoke app, which violated the Protection from Harassment Act.
Fang’s identity was initially kept confidential, but the prosecution successfully argued for its disclosure, citing the victim’s and her family’s wishes. The judge agreed to lift the gag order, allowing the media to reveal Fang’s name for the first time since his charges were filed in January 2025. Despite his lawyer’s objections, which highlighted concerns about the potential impact on the victim, the court proceeded with the disclosure.
Fang, who is originally from China and holds permanent residency in Singapore, appeared in court wearing a black mask. As the judge announced the decision to reveal his identity, Fang reportedly displayed signs of unease. He is scheduled to begin serving his sentence on June 16, 2025.
This case has raised significant public interest and concern regarding the protection of minors and the responsibilities of adults in positions of authority, particularly in the entertainment industry. The victim’s identity remains protected under a gag order, ensuring her privacy amid the ongoing legal proceedings.
