Major Drug Bust: Foreign National Arrested, 4.15kg of ‘Ice’ Seized in CNB Operation

In a significant drug bust, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized approximately 4.15 kilograms of ‘Ice’ with an estimated street value of $500,000 on July 16, 2024. The operation, which was made possible through intelligence sharing with the Narcotics Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKNB), also resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old foreign national for suspected drug trafficking.

The CNB received crucial information from the HKNB, leading to the arrest of the suspect in the vicinity of Changi South. The individual had just deposited a package at an airfreight warehouse in the same area. Upon inspection, the package was found to contain two ornamental lion figurines, which concealed the large quantity of ‘Ice’ within their base structure.

The successful operation highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating drug trafficking. SAC Leon Chan, Deputy Director of CNB for Operations, expressed gratitude to the HKNB for their assistance, stating, “Drug syndicates operate without borders, and it is essential for law enforcement agencies to work together to neutralize these criminal organizations and bring them to justice.”

The arrested suspect is currently under investigation for suspected drug trafficking, which carries severe penalties under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973. If found guilty of trafficking more than 250 grams of methamphetamine, the individual may face the mandatory death penalty.

The CNB remains committed to working closely with its international counterparts to disrupt drug trafficking activities and protect Singapore from the harmful effects of drug abuse. The ongoing investigation into the suspect’s drug activities will continue to uncover the extent of their involvement in the illegal drug trade.
