TOTO $12M DRAW, HOW TO PLAY & THE CHANCES OF HITTING THE JACKPOT

toto ticket and singapore pools branch

Like the popular hokkien dialect song “If I have a million” that my older folks sings more often than rather, these two lucky Toto punters have instantly joined the millionaire club, something which many can only dream and be envious of.

So what exactly is Toto?

Origins of Toto

Toto is the first legalised lottery in Singapore, started by the only legal bookmaker in the country, Singapore Pools.

Toto was started as the government of Singapore wanted to clamp down on illegal gambling activities which was widespread in the 1960s.

It was first introduced in 1968 and got its name “TOTO” from the words “Totalisator” and “Lotto” according to information found in the Singapore Pools website.

How to play

To play Toto, a punter will have to choose at least six numbers between 1 to 49, and place a minimum bet of S$1 which is inclusive of GST.

Every Monday and Thursday at 6:30pm, the draw will take place.

The draw sometimes takes place at 9:30pm, when the Toto draw is a special draw or a cascade draw.

6 winning numbers plus an additional 1 will be drawn, and will form the winning set of numbers.

If the numbers that you have chosen matches three of the drawn Toto numbers, you win a prize.

Bets can be placed either at any of the Singapore Pools outlets, via its phone betting service or even via its online platform.

Toto bet types & amounts

There are many ways where you can play around and select the numbers for your Toto entries.

Currently, these are the few bet types.

  1. Ordinary

    – You select 6 numbers bewteen 1 to 49, and every 6 numbers that you have chosen will form an Ordinary entry, and each entry costs S$1.

  2. System Entry

    – You may select up to 12 numbers in this bet type, and the more numbers you choose, the more ordinary entries you will buy and therefore the total bet amount becomes higher.

    – For every additional Toto number that you choose above 6, the name of the bet type will change for example if you choose 7 numbers, it will be called ‘System 7’ and if you choose 10 numbers it will be called ‘System 10’.

3. System Roll

– You have to choose five numbers of your choice and one rolling number.
– The rolling number would be represented by the character ‘R’ and it will represent the remaining 44 numbers which you did not choose.
– This would give you 44 different entries, and your bet amount will be $44.

4. Quick Pick

– You can choose this option if you do not have a set of Toto numbers in mind.
– The system will automatically generate a set of Toto numbers for you.
– You can choose to Quick Pick any amount of ordinary entries up to System 12.

Lucky Toto punters usually wins the jackpot from buying quick pick.

5. iToto

– Under iToto, you are allowed to buy more than one unit of a Quick Pick system 12 entry.
– It is basically a Quick Pick system 12 entry divided into 28 units.
– Each unit costs $33, (Normal system 12 bet amount / 28).
– All 28 units of an existing iToto bet must be sold before a new iToto bet is generated upon demand.
– By buying more than one unit, you will be purchasing multiple units of the same set of numbers.
– The prize money will be rounded up to the nearest 10 cents.

Here is the difference between a normal Toto System 12 entry and an iToto system 12 entry as illustrated by Singapore Pools

6. Group Toto

– This allows you to share your Toto bet with a group of people yet have the same bet printed on multiple tickets up to 10.
– The cost and price of the ticket will be divided by the number of tickets printed.
– A minimum of $7 is required for each ticket.
– The prize amount will also be rounded up to the nearest 10 cents.

– Group Toto can only be placed at the outlets itself, and the punter will have to use a bet slip to mark the numbers, check the Group Toto box on the slip and let the counter staff know how many tickets to print.

Physical Toto Ticket

Whenever bets for Toto are placed over the counter, a betting slip will be printed out showing the selected Toto numbers as well as the wager amounts.

An example of a ticket would be:

Placing TOTO bets at outlets | Singapore Pools

The ticket seen above is labelled into 5 numbers by Singapore Pools, and they each constitute a different part of a typical toto wager.

They are:

  1. Bet Type
  2. Self Pick Selection
  3. Quick Pick Selection
  4. Total bet amount
  5. Draw date and number

The ticket represents your proof of purchase of Toto, and it is advisable to check it before leaving the counter that your bet entries are correct.

Once you leave the counter, you will not be able to make any changes and will have to spend more money to buy another Toto ticket to fix the errors if any.

Payouts for winning Toto

You must be wondering what constitutes a Toto win and what is the amount that you will win if you manage to match your set of numbers to the set of Toto numbers that is drawn.

Well, if you manage to match at least three of your chosen numbers to the drawn Toto numbers, you will win a prize.

The prize amount that you win varies, depending on the amount of numbers that you are able to match.

54% of the sales proceeds are added to the prize pool in every Toto draw and the prize pool is for distributing prizes which may be won for each draw.

Here is the breakdown of the amount that you will win if you match at least three numbers. The prize category is divided into ‘Groups’.

prize groupings

Different bet types also have different prize amounts. This is a little bit more complicated and Singapore Pools have came up with a table to explain the Toto winning payouts for the different Toto bet types.

prize table for ordinary and system bets
prize table for system roll
prize table for itoto

If there are more than one lucky winner between Group 1 and Group 4, the prize money for the Toto group would be divided by the number of Toto winners in that individual group.

For Group 5 to Group 7, the prize money is fixed.

If there are no winners on that particular Toto draw between Group 1 to 4, the prize money would be snowballed and accumulated into the next draw within the Group itself.

The prize amount for Group 1 will only snowball till the fourth draw, while the prize amount for Groups 2 to 4 will be snowballed till there is a winner.

There is a cascading draw after every three consecutive draws without a winner in Group 1.

The Toto jackpot prize money will not snowball beyond the fourth consecutive draw and if there is no Group 1 winner after the fourth consecutive draw, the prize money which is a total of 38% of the fourth draw plus the amounts snowballed from the previous three draws will be paid to the next prize group with a winner and shared equally amongst the winning Toto entries.

To help better understand the concept of cascading, Singapore Pools have came up with an illustration here.

Odds of winning the Toto Jackpot

The chances of winning the Toto Jackpot (Group 1) is as low as almost 1 in 14 million, which means that it is actually easier to get struck by lightning (1 in 500,000) and easier to get shot by a gun in Singapore (1 in 1,000,000), even if it seems almost impossible to be shot by a gun here.

Singapore Pools have created this table to show the odds of winning the different Toto prize groups.

Toto statistics and draw history

On the Singapore Pools website, there are many tools that are provided to help Toto punters make an informed decision before placing their bets.

To start off, there is a Toto winning prize calculator for punters to calculate how much are their winnings in the even where the numbers that they bought matches 3 or more for the draw itself.

You can also check the hit rate history of the Toto numbers to see which numbers are drawn most frequently to increase your chances of winning the jackpot.

For the more superstitious punters, there is also information provided on which outlets generates the highest amount of Group 1 and Group 2 winning tickets.

There is also a page where the top 20 jackpot prizes and their winning shares are shown, to allow to people to see and dream that maybe one day their statistics will be there.

Disclaimer from Singapore Pools: Every number has an equal chance to be drawn, regardless of where the ticket was bought. Statistics are provided only for informative purposes.

Special draws and cascade draws

Every year, there will be a few special Toto draws and cascading draws.

Special Toto draws happen usually when there is a festive season or a commemorative event, such as the yearly Hong Bao draw to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.

The Toto jackpot prize money are usually higher during such draws. In the latest Toto Hong Bao draw which took place on 26 February 2021, the Group 1 prize was a whopping S$9.6 million, and the Toto jackpot was shared by a total of 5 lucky winners.

TOTO Hong Bao Draw 2021 - Singapore Pools

The most recent Toto cascade draw during the time of writing saw the Group 1 jackpot prize reach almost S$10 million, and the prize money was shared by two lucky winners.

Top three luckiest Toto outlets

While the drawn numbers are randomly selected and generated, there seems to be outlets that have generated more winning tickets as compared to other Singapore Pools outlets.

This has led to flocks of people specially heading down to place their bets at these outlets, in the hopes of creating a ‘higher’ chances to strike the top jackpot prize.

The outlets that are named here have consistently been providing winning Toto tickets, and they are named not in any order as the draws are still happening twice weekly, which will result in the outlets taking over each other’s position in the number of times where Group 1 winning tickets are generated.

The information provided here about outlets who have the most number of jackpot prize winners is accurate as of 14 Oct 2014.

Changes throughout the years

Toto first started in a ‘5 out of 49 format’ in 1968, where five numbers out of 49 will make up the winning set of numbers.

It subsequently changed to ‘6 out of 42’ in 1988, and the top prize then had a minimum sum of S$300,000 guaranteed.

However in year 1997, Toto rules were changed again. This time, the Toto numbers changed to ‘6 out of 45’ with the top prize raised to a sum of S$500,000 guaranteed.

The latest change to what the format is today came in October 2014, when it was decided that six winning numbers and one additional number out of 49 will be drawn twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays.

The jackpot sum was also increased to begin at at least S$1,000,000.

Responsible Gaming

As much as Toto may be a great way to realise your dreams of being a millionaire without working for it, it is also important that we gamble responsibly.

It is okay to indulge in a little bit of gaming, provided that you do not use your money for daily necessities to gamble instead of getting what you need to get and it is spare money that you can afford to lose.

Many punters including those that gamble on Toto tend to have the mindset that they are investing small money to get bigger returns.

Afterall, the saying “not everyday is a sunday” goes.

One must remember that the odds for gambling are always stack against the punter, and the bookmaker always wins.

There is a Chinese saying which loosely translates to “Gamble 10 times, lose 9 times.”

People who are addicted to gambling can always reach out to the National Council or Problem Gambling (NCPG), for help on gambling issues.

SON SCREWS UP UNIVERSITY FUND & ENDS UP GETTING KICKED OUT OF HOME

0

My wife and I started saving for our kids early but we didn’t anticipate university overseas was going to get so expensive.

By the time our kids were going to university we had 106k saved. My son was going to university first but we told both our kids that they would get 53k each and they could go to university with that money or they could withdraw it after 21 but that was all the money they had and we weren’t contributing more.

It would cover almost all the tuition at the university but if they wanted to go to a more expensive school that was on them and they had to cover it. My daughter went to a private university and lived at home. She finished with a degree in business with almost no debt.

Our son decided to go to a more expensive school overseas and paid the rent with the tuition there being over $27k a year. We tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn’t listen and we gave up and told him he would have to pay his own path.

So after 2 years, he had used up his money and even worse he wanted to switch majors which meant another year in school. He asked us for money but we told him he had gotten all his money out of his education fund and he was angry and didn’t want to take out loans so he started working.

We told him he could move back during the pandemic to save money but he lost his job and picked up another one relatively quickly but it didn’t pay as much and he started buying so much stuff off Amazon I’m sure he wasn’t saving anything. He recently got a better job but it still doesn’t pay what he needs to go back to university and he started spending it on video games and clothing. 4 years later he still hadn’t saved any money and his sister is now making six figures and it’s making him feel bad.

He started smoking and not working, playing video games all day and I think the company caught on and laid him off. Whatever he is doing is not enough to save for university and asked us again for money for university.

We told him again all the money we were contributing was in the education fund and he chose to go to an expensive school. He complained he didn’t understand what that meant at 18 and it was our fault for letting him. We didn’t let him we tried to talk him down but he wouldn’t listen and I couldn’t force him to go to the cheaper school. I told him he should just take out loans to study at the cheaper school but he says I should be paying for his school and isn’t budging.

We had a lot of fights with him and us over this tuition thing and he thinks we have treated him unfairly by not giving him more money. He also stays up late partying and comes home at midnight and refuses to do chores.

We didn’t have any choice but he give him 3 months notice to move back to SG and he moved out last week to be with friends.

He yelled at me when we weren’t ever going to his wedding or seeing his kids and my wife wants to just pay for his schooling so he doesn’t end up a loser.

GIRL BROKE FATHER’S EXPENSIVE GUITAR, THEN BLAME IT ON HER BROTHERS

0

I broke my Dad’s super expensive guitar and then blamed my brothers

I’ve got a big family (5 brothers 2 sisters and me…the guitar murderer) and we are all pretty musical. We had a family band growing up and would play and perform all over.

One day somebody left my Dad’s precious guitar on the couch and l I jumped over the back of the couch to sit down and cracked the neck.

I looked around quick and realized no one was there so I bolted. Dad came home saw his guitar and lost it.

My Dad always favored my brothers and I knew he wouldn’t be as mad at them as he would at me if I broke it so I said they were rough-housing all day in the living room.

He basically did nothing as I’d anticipated. I still feel bad. Not for lying to my Dad but for breaking that beautiful guitar.

It was a high end Gibson.

GIRL SAID SHE GOT BASHED FOR NO SAVINGS, FEEDING FAMILY SINCE 18 Y.O

0

I saw many people bashing me for not even having 1k savings lol. Do you know how does it feels like to be broke AF for your entire life? Living paycheck to paycheck is not desirable, but there is no other choice for some people lol

Being the sole breadwinner of my family since 10 years ago (when I was just 18!) I am not able to complete my studies, I do not have a high paying job (I earn just 3k+ a month and yes I’ve been trying to upgrade myself to get a higher paying job, I started out with just 1.2k job so tell me how far have I come? Lol) and I have a family of 4 to take care of!

What type of commitments I have you say? I have to pay my parent’s medical bill, my siblings’ study loan + my own study loan that I took up to upgrade myself.

I do not own anything branded, oh in fact the most “branded”thing I have in possession is my 2nd hand iphone 11. Is that trying to “live a luxurious life” to you?

All of you don’t understand that as you’re not the one living in poverty for 28 years. You don’t have to feed and provide for your family since 18 years old, when you’re basically forced out of school to earn money for the family lol.

As for my bf’s side I won’t comment much, but he is in a pretty tough position as well. We are both living paycheck to paycheck while living a FRUGAL lifestyle.

Why do I have thoughts to break up with him? Sorry I probably wasn’t clear enough in my previous post. I’m being selfish, yes. But I feel it’s for our own good. I’m only dragging him down with my commitments, and he is probably also dragging me down with his commitments. We have talked about our finances multiple times, we both agreed that we need to get a higher paying job and lessen our commitments, and marriage and bto is definitely not in the picture for the next 5 years. But why am I so conflicted now? Because I’m worried for my future! For his future!

I might be better off being alone so I don’t drag someone down into this shithole I’m in.

SINGAPORE COLLABORATES WITH CHINA ON FROZEN REMITTANCES ISSUE

0

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) advised today that remittances of funds into the People’s Republic of China (PRC) should be made through channels such as banks and card networks, to prevent any inadvertent freezing of monies or accounts by PRC law enforcement agencies.

The advice was given at an outreach session organised by the SPF and MAS this evening for individuals (mostly PRC nationals working in Singapore) whose monies remitted into their beneficiaries’ bank accounts in China by remittance companies in Singapore through third-party agents had been frozen by PRC law enforcement agencies. Representatives from the PRC Embassy in Singapore and three remittance companies (Hanshan Money Express Pte. Ltd., Samlit Moneychanger Pte. Ltd., and Zhongguo Remittance Pte. Ltd.) were also present at the outreach session held at the Police Cantonment Complex and attended by 39 affected individuals.

To complement the advisory, MAS issued a Notice this afternoon to direct remittance companies to use only banking and card channels for remittances to China, with effect from 1 January 2024. Specifically, remittance companies may engage only a bank, an operator of a card network (e.g. Union Pay International), or a licensed financial institution that can engage a bank or an operator of a card network, to assist in the transmission of money. The temporary suspension against all other channels will be in place for three months in the first instance and reviewed after that. This is necessary for the immediate protection of consumers, and to stem the number of reported new cases of beneficiaries’ accounts in China being frozen .

Members of the public are cautioned against rushing to remit monies to China through overseas third-party agents before 1 January 2024. Individuals should use other channels for remittances into China, such as through banks or card networks. Such channels are offered by the remittance companies and remain available for customers.

As of 15 December 2023, SPF has received more than 670 reports of remittances being frozen, with a total affected amount of around $13 million. About 430 of the reports were against Samlit Moneychanger Pte Ltd. To keep transaction costs low, the remittance companies had processed the affected outward remittances through overseas licensed agents and not through a direct bank transfer from Singapore to China. The cases affected make up a small minority of total remittance transactions through remittance companies.

While such non-bank channels were not prohibited, recent actions taken by PRC law enforcement agencies with respect to such channels have made them more risky. Hence, the actions taken by the SPF and MAS. The actions follow the notice published by the PRC Embassy on 24 October 2023 advising PRC nationals in Singapore to use official banking channels to remit funds to China, even though non-banking channels might offer more favourable exchange rates.

These actions are part of a broader effort by the Singapore Government to work with the PRC Government and the relevant remittance companies in Singapore to help the remitters understand how they can get their monies and accounts in China unfrozen.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has engaged the PRC Embassy in Singapore on multiple occasions in the past month to register the Singapore Government’s concerns on the impact to remitters in Singapore and to understand what the affected remitters need to do to get the PRC law enforcement agencies to unfreeze the monies and accounts. The Singapore Embassy in Beijing has also raised this matter with the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as has the SPF with its counterparts in China.

MAS has been actively engaging the remittance companies involved, and has told them to render the necessary assistance to affected customers and to strengthen their complaints handling process. This includes issuing a confirmation letter to affected remitters upon request, to prove that their monies had been remitted through them into China, with information on the source of funds (e.g. through employment) to facilitate the unfreezing of the accounts.

The Singapore Government has no jurisdiction over the beneficiary bank accounts frozen by the PRC law enforcement agencies. Nevertheless, we are in close contact with the PRC Government on the information required to facilitate the PRC law enforcement agencies’ decision on unfreezing of the accounts.

The Singapore Government understands the frustrations faced by the affected remitters and is doing all it can to help. We urge the affected remitters to provide all the information necessary to facilitate the unfreezing of their accounts by the PRC law enforcement agencies, and to seek redress within the legal framework of Singapore. SPF will not hesitate to take enforcement action against anyone who breaks the law in Singapore, including the organisation of or participation in a public assembly without a Police permit.

BF’S FRIEND TOOK EVERYONE OUT & PAID FOR EVERYONE’S DINNER EXCEPT GIRL

0

My (21F) boyfriend (22M) and I went out to dinner with his best friend, he invited us, to an expensive steakhouse.

I do not like steak but went because it’s his best friend. He told me his friend wanted to treat him to dinner since he (his friend) got a big sale but wouldn’t pay for me.

I felt awkward at first but let it go since my boyfriend said he would pay for me since his friend payed for him.

When we get there his friend said no offense but im not paying for you. It was extremely awkward and felt like a diss to me since he was paying for himself, his girlfriend, and my boyfriend. I paid the tip as well.

I told my boyfriend that made me so uncomfortable because he kept joking about how he wasn’t paying for me and when we explained the check to the waitress she was confused and his friend said, “there’s two couples here she must be confused why you’re paying for yourself haha.” It felt like a diss to me.

I told my boyfriend the next day it made me uncomfortable and felt like a diss to me as his girlfriend. He said well its because I’m not family yet.

So you say you love me but I’m not family? Idk but I was taught and have seen when someone invites people out to a celebratory dinner of their success of wealth they normally pay for the whole table.

Idk for me it was rude of him to exclude me then joke about it and be like “no offense.”

I ordered the cheapest thing on the menu because I don’t like that type of food.

I’m just feeling rejected and annoyed as my boyfriend didn’t really defend my feelings, and just said “well you’re not family yet.”

MAN GETS RASH AFTER GOING BANGKOK SOI COWBOY & “RAWS” THE GIRL

0

A netizen recently shared a story after travelling to Bangkok and doing something ridiculous in the heat of the moment.

Here is the story:

I was travelling with a friend who enjoys the red lights but does not enjoy drinking. I was having a swell time drinking as it was much cheaper in Thailand than in Singapore.

So my friend who was very hungry decided to go to Soi Cowboy to find the girl of his dreams…

There were two girls sitting with us and I didn’t mind buying a drink and chatting casually. My friend on the other hand is all about his “hands”. He stretches into the woman’s clothes and does what many men enjoy.

I’m no saint, I just don’t find them attractive.

Soon after the girl touched him back he was like a dog in heat and starts to strike a deal with the woman, the woman wanted 3,000 baht + 500 bar fine for the “shot”. My friend turned to me and asked me to negotiate with the woman as I could speak Thai.

I managed to get the price down to 2,500 baht.

After drinking we returned to our room and he began to do his “job” while I sat in the living room and continued to drink my beer.

After a couple of beers, my friend was out of the room and told me that the girl got drunk and got “on him” before he had a chance to wear the magical “umbrella”.

I asked if he stopped he said he was “in heat” like the mating season of some wild animal and he could not stop.

The day after he started to develop a rash around his neck and he insist that his “clothes” are dirty and its not some diseases.

I told him to go see a doctor if the symptoms persist.

FEMALE FRIEND GOT DRUNK, TRIED TO “EAT ME” AND CONFESSED

0

I’m a guy so my best female friend and I have had some relationship problems in the past, but this might have been the tipping point for me.

We met when we were 15 and I knew that she was in love with me for a while, she asked me out and I said no, after that her feelings past (or so I thought) we remained friends. When we were 16 we became best friends and that was kind of the high point of our friendship.

When we were 21 is kind of when the problems started brewing. She had a very difficult time, she became kind of overprotective and possesive for a while. When I did something she thought was risky, she would call me a ton of times. When I started dating my girlfriend at the time, she said things to the effect of be careful she might be using me, she had a full on mental breakdown at a party when I told her I had S with my girlfriend because she didn’t trust her, she also told me that one of my friends who I was getting closer to might be using me. At one point she burned bridges with a lot of our friends, so I was one of the few she had left. Once we were on a festival and we shared a bed and she would get closer than was appropriate and that I was comfortable with, though I never said anything. We didn’t hang much for a few months after all that.

That brings us to this year, she seemd to have really grown alot and got herself together, she got herself some new friends. I kept myself at a little bit of a distance from her so that our relationship would flow back into healthier waters, but she really seemd alot better and I was super happy for her because I really did care about her.

Drunk

This last week, however, we had our last day of school and we all bought booze and went drinking in this park nearby. She got super super wasted fast and confessed to me that she had a boyfriend and I was happy for her. She then put her head on my lap which I was comfortable with.

Then she started saying how his boylfriend and me are the two most important men in her life and she started kissing my thigh, like light pecks on my thigh, but alot of them and I got very uncomfortable very quickly. I then got up and told her I was going to talk to some other friends and she begged me stay a few more minutes and then I did while she drunkely rambles and at one point asks me If she is a bad girlfriend.

I walked away later, 20 minutes pass and she’s throwing up for a third time and I decide i really need to take her home. We go to the edge of park, I order her a grab and we sit on a bench, she then puts her head on my shoulder which was fine, but then she kisses my neck. I kind of freeze in shock and thankfully the grab arrives. I get her in there and go back to the party. The next day I send her a text that she made me uncomfortable and she thought it was because she told me she had a boyfriend.

Don’t get me wrong, I really care about her and we’ve known each other for a long time and we have had some truly great times together, but this might have been the last straw for me. I gave her a second chance once before and I don’t know if I could do it again.

I’m confused and kind of sad and dont really know what to do now about her. Any and all advice appreciated.
