WOMAN MUSTERED UP COURAGE TO PROPOSE TO LONG-TIME BOYFRIEND, BUT SAID “NO”

0

I propose to my boyfriend, and he said no

We have two children and we live together. Anyways, my boyfriend and I have been together for a LONG time! Marriage has always been a plan of ours.

My boyfriend always made excuses like “we already have kids, we already stay together, what we need to get married for”….

Marriage has always been important to me and I’ve explained to him why (I will not state why here because I don’t want this to turn into a debate because people hate marriage and also because it’s really not anyone’s business of my own personal reasoning for why I want something).

Ok so my boyfriend keeps making more excuses saying it’s not the right time and I decided to just ask him to marry me.

So I did ask him and he freaked out and said “naw naw hell naw don’t do that” and I asked him what is he talking about and he basically felt emasculated because I asked him to marry me and he said when he’s ready he as the man will do it.

He said that me proposing to him made him feel feminine and told me not to do it again.

I feel stupid too. I vented to my friends and family about this and they called me dumb for proposing to a guy and that I should have never done that and apparently that just made me look thirsty af proposing to him and that no real woman or respectable woman takes away a proposal from a man because that’s a man job. SO NOW my self-esteem is in the toilet, and now I am very embarrassed.

I’m still struggling with this I feel like a clown playing house with a man that’ll never marry me. I feel so lied too

INTERVIEWER ASKS “WHAT’S YOUR EXPECTED SALARY”, GUY SHOOTS BACK “WHAT’S YOUR OFFER”

0

During an interview, when they ask desired pay, this is my way of flipping that question back around to avoid low-ballers:

This usually works to reveal low-ballers and this is how I flip it back onto the interviewer:

Hiring person: “So what is your anticipated pay for this position?”

Me: “If selected for this position and made an offer, I will trust that an offer will be made in good faith, taking my skills and experience into consideration. I will know based on an offer whether it will be a good fit for me.”

Hiring person: “But we need to list a concrete figure here, so like if you had to put a number to that answer, what would it be?”

Me: “Since I don’t know the way your organization determines the pay scale, I wouldn’t have a concrete number to give you. But I’m sure the range is available internally and I would say an amount within that range that reflects my skills and experience. Did you have any additional questions about my skills or experience that would help clarify that?”

Yes, I realize this will turn away certain companies and offers. That’s somewhat the point.

And yes you should go into the interview knowing the vague range, but if you want to gauge the culture of the company, my suggestion stands.

If a company doesn’t expect money to be important to you, why should you assume and do the work of telling them where in their pay scale they should pay you?

Netizens’ comments

  1. I always ask….”What do you have budgeted for this position?” when they ask me what salary I’m expecting. If they balk I walk, but honestly I’ve almost never not gotten an answer.
  2. If the pay range is not listed on the jon advertisement, they’re low-ballers
  3. My thinking is that I quote a number that is about 50% above what the job should pay, then let them start negotiation.

0

In the realm of Singaporean cinema, there’s an exciting buzz in the air. The beloved local movie franchise, “Money No Enough,” is all set to make a triumphant return with its third installment, aptly titled “Money No Enough 3.”

This news has sent ripples of excitement among fans who have patiently awaited the continuation of this endearing saga.

A Long-Awaited Comeback

After a hiatus of 15 years, “Money No Enough 3” is gearing up for production, signaling the return of a cherished cinematic gem.

The franchise’s loyal followers, who have been on a cinematic journey since its inception, can finally rejoice as the third chapter is set to grace the big screens in 2024.

Familiar Faces, Timeless Chemistry

What makes this revival even more thrilling is the return of the franchise’s iconic trio of local actors: Jack Neo, Mark Lee, and Henry Thia.

These actors have become synonymous with the franchise, and their return promises to bring back the same chemistry and charm that endeared them to audiences in the first place.

In a move that adds to the nostalgia, Jack Neo will not only reprise his role as one of the stars but also take the helm as the director for “Money No Enough 3.”

Neo’s creative vision has played an integral part in shaping the franchise’s identity, and his involvement is a testament to his dedication.

A Tale of “Young Seniors”

The heart of the “Money No Enough” franchise lies in its relatable stories about everyday life and the challenges that come with it. The third installment, with a production budget of S$2.8 million, promises to continue this tradition.

The movie’s storyline revolves around three “young seniors” named Ah Hui, Ah Qiang, and Ah Huang. These lifelong friends find themselves grappling with their own family and financial problems.

As they attempt to join forces and support each other, their grand plan takes a dramatic turn when the younger generation challenges their beliefs and value systems.

Ah Huang, facing mounting debts, resorts to desperate measures. He borrows money from his trusted friends, Ah Qiang and Ah Hui, and ventures into illegal businesses that ultimately prosper.

However, greed gets the better of him, leading to a refusal to repay his friends’ loans. Amidst his financial success, one of his businesses collapses, causing a ripple effect that impacts not only his family but also the families of his two friends.

The central question that looms throughout the movie is profound: Can these three friends and their families find a way to reconcile? Is money truly the answer to everything, or are there deeper values at play?

A Legacy Spanning Decades

The “Money No Enough” franchise has been a fixture in Singaporean cinema since its inception in 1998. The first movie in the series, released on May 7, 1998, enjoyed immense success and remained the top-grossing local and Asian movie until “Ah Boys to Men” claimed the title in 2012.

A decade after the original, “Money No Enough 2” was released on July 31, 2008, further cementing the franchise’s place in the hearts of viewers.

SHANTI PEREIRA BECOMES 1ST S’POREAN TO STRIKE GOLD AT ASIAN GAMES, GOES DOWN IN HISTORY

0

In a thrilling display of speed and determination, Shanti Pereira, Singapore’s sprint sensation, claimed gold in the women’s 200m final at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium on October 2, 2023.

With her astonishing time of 23.03 seconds, Pereira left spectators in awe and secured her place in history as Singapore’s first athletics gold medalist since Chee Swee Lee’s triumph in the women’s 400m back in 1974.

This remarkable achievement not only marks a historic moment for Singapore but also represents a significant personal victory for Pereira, who has overcome numerous challenges to reach this pinnacle of success.

The Triumph on the Track

Shanti Pereira’s outstanding performance at the Asian Games was nothing short of spectacular. With a lightning-fast time of 23.03 seconds, she left her competitors in the dust.

China’s Li Yuting took the silver with a time of 23.28 seconds, while Bahrain’s Edidiong Ofonime Odiong claimed the bronze with a time of 23.48 seconds.

Notably, Odiong’s compatriot, Salwa Eid Naser, was disqualified for a false start, clearing the path for Pereira’s triumphant moment.

Breaking the Half-Century Drought

Singaporeans had waited with bated breath for nearly half a century to witness their country’s triumph on the track.

Shanti Pereira’s victory was not just a gold medal; it was a symbol of perseverance, dedication, and the unyielding spirit of an athlete who refused to give up. Her remarkable journey from obscurity to the pinnacle of athletics is a testament to her unwavering commitment.

Overcoming Adversity

Pereira’s path to glory was far from smooth. She burst onto the scene in 2015 at the Southeast Asian Games, where she clinched gold in the 200m, clocking a personal best and setting a new national record.

This win ended a 42-year gold medal drought for Singapore in a SEA Games sprint event. However, with success came immense pressure and injuries that threatened to derail her career.

The weight of expectations and the physical toll of injuries took a toll on Pereira, leading to self-doubt and fear. She recalled, “Slowly, people just kind of lost faith in me. People have their opinions about my journey, and whatnot. I think, for a while there, I really did let it get to me.”

With the unwavering support of her family and the guidance of coach Luis Cunha, Pereira made a triumphant comeback.

In 2022, she secured gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m at the SEA Games. Her journey continued with historic wins at the Asian Athletics Championships, where she dominated both the 100m and 200m events.

A Journey to the World Stage

Shanti Pereira’s journey reached new heights when she became the first Singaporean woman to qualify for the World Championships semi-finals. She also met the qualifying mark for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, solidifying her status as a global sprinting sensation.

MAS ON DBS’ PAYNOW SERVICE DISRUPTION – “WE EXPECT BANKS TO RESOLVE ISSUES QUICKLY”

0

In the world of modern banking, the seamless functioning of electronic fund transfer services is of utmost importance. These services provide convenience to customers and facilitate the smooth flow of financial transactions.

However, disruptions in such services can have far-reaching consequences, not only for the customers but also for the financial institutions responsible for maintaining them.

In a recent incident, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) found itself working closely with DBS Bank to uncover the root cause of a disruption to the bank’s PayNow and Fast And Secure Transfers (Fast) services, according to The Straits Times.

The Initial Disruption

On September 26th, DBS Bank alerted MAS about a disruption that had affected a significant number of its customers.

Fast, an electronic inter-bank fund transfer service, experienced a hiccup that day. While the disruption was eventually resolved within the same day, the process of reconciling transactions and addressing the issues faced by affected DBS/POSB accounts took an additional three days.

Reconciliation, in this context, refers to the essential process of ensuring that no unauthorized charges or errors occurred during the transaction processing. It is a critical step in maintaining the integrity of the banking system and safeguarding customer interests.

MAS, as the regulatory authority overseeing financial institutions in Singapore, has high expectations for how banks handle such disruptions. The authority expects banks to recover swiftly from system disruptions, ensuring that customers’ concerns are addressed transparently and promptly.

MAS’s Response

An MAS spokesperson emphasized the importance of banks being capable of rapid recovery and efficient resolution of issues arising from system disruptions.

The authority also expressed its intention to closely follow up with DBS Bank to uncover the root cause of the disruption. This proactive approach is aimed at not only identifying the immediate cause but also preventing future incidents of a similar nature.

Customer Complaints

On the day of the disruption, multiple DBS customers faced delays and other issues while using the PayNow service.

According to Downdetector, a platform that tracks disruptions and problems related to various service providers, there were 163 complaints recorded at 3:53 PM on that day. These complaints ranged from delays in transactions to more severe issues, such as unauthorized deductions.

A Pattern of Disruptions

This recent disruption is not an isolated incident for DBS Bank. Earlier in the year, the bank faced two major service disruptions.

In May, a 6½-hour interruption occurred due to human error, while in March, a 12-hour disruption was caused by inherent software bugs.

These incidents underscore the need for robust systems and processes to prevent and address disruptions promptly.

WOMAN GOT SCAMMED OF $30K, LEAVING HER FAMILY IN FINANCIAL DIFFICULTY

0

In the digital age, the allure of a part-time job to supplement one’s income can be tempting. However, the story of JT, a 42-year-old woman, serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers lurking behind seemingly attractive opportunities.

A Hopeful Beginning

It all started when JT received a WhatsApp message on September 17 from a person claiming to be Ashley Tan, representing the local recruitment agency, The Supreme HR Advisory.

This message marked the beginning of a chain of events that would change her life forever. Ashley Tan informed JT that a company named Q00 Media was hiring marketing staff.

The Quest for Extra Income

Motivated by her desire to contribute to her mother’s medical bills, JT had posted her details on the job portal while seeking part-time work. Despite holding a position as an administrative executive, she sought additional income to ease her financial burden.

Ashley Tan presented an enticing offer – a part-time role involving “virtual orders” for travel booking sites, with a promise of earning a substantial two to five percent commission for each successful transaction.

A Deceptive Proposition

The offer sounded promising, with the potential to earn between $200 and $500 daily. Encouraged by the seemingly lucrative opportunity, JT agreed to take on the role.

She was subsequently added to a Telegram group chat by another individual named Joanna, who would be responsible for assigning orders.

A Web of Deceit

JT commenced work on September 20, and over the course of her assignment, she made a total of 16 PayNow transactions from her personal savings account to an undisclosed phone number.

Screenshots of her conversations with Joanna revealed a disturbing truth – she was required to pay for these transactions.

After each transfer, Joanna would inform JT of the commission she had earned. The transactions ranged from $253 to a staggering $3,745, accumulating to approximately $30,000.

The Shocking Revelation

Joanna repeatedly assured JT that her money, including the commission, would be promptly transferred back to her account.

However, a twist in the tale occurred when JT was told she needed to transfer an additional $5,007 under the guise of income tax before she could access her hard-earned money.

The Harsh Reality

At this juncture, JT began to realize the possibility of falling victim to a scam. By then, she had borrowed around $5,000 from friends to fulfill some of the transactions.

Tragically, she found herself not only entangled in a web of deceit but also burdened with substantial debt due to these loans.

Her daughter, Elaine Goh, lamented how they would have stopped her if she had told them about the “job”, but she had kept quiet throughout.

Seeking Justice

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, JT filed a police report on September 28, but as of now, she awaits updates regarding her case.

In an attempt to shed light on her mother’s distressing ordeal, Elaine Goh turned to TikTok on October 1, sharing their family’s financial struggles.

She expressed, “Now my family is grappling with a multitude of financial challenges, including my grandmother’s hospital bills, housing expenses, phone bills, school fees for my siblings, various debts, and even my own surgery expenses.” Their limited income and living conditions in a one-room flat further exacerbated their predicament.

Managing an entire food stall solo is no easy task, particularly when there’s no support staff available and you have to do everything on your own.

Nevertheless, in Bedok, one man appears to handle it all with exceptional finesse.

33-year-old Andy Week, who runs Meaty Western Cuisin in Bedok at Block 539 Bedok North Street 3, runs hi stall from 2 pm to 2 am daily, except for Tuesdays.

This translates into relentless, grueling hours as he serves up delectable Western hawker delights to eager patrons.

Meaty Western Cuisine boasts a tantalizing array of Western fare, featuring items like grilled chicken chop, steak, chicken cutlet burgers laden with nacho cheese, and more.

Despite the solitary endeavor, Andy ensures his customers are treated to meals that are both mouthwatering and fulfilling.

Survives on 5 hrs of sleep daily

Back in 2017, Andy Wee initially launched his stall with the noble intention of securing a better income for his wife from China, who aspired to seek Permanent Residency (PR) in Singapore.

Despite his best intentions, their marriage eventually dissolved. Nevertheless, Andy’s commitment and devotion to his food stall remained unwavering.

Andy’s unwavering dedication to his stall comes at a personal cost. He manages just five hours of sleep nightly, retiring at 4 am and rising early to prepare for the day ahead.

Quality food

He’s foregone personal hobbies and outings, channeling his energy entirely into the operation of his unassuming Western food stall. His exceptional commitment renders him the sole provider for his family.

What distinguishes Andy’s stall is not solely the food’s quality but also its affordability. Patrons can relish a hearty grilled chicken chop for a mere S$7.50 or indulge in a chicken cutlet burger infused with nacho cheese for just S$8.

For those seeking a special culinary experience, Andy presents Australian marbled steak paired with his homemade sauce, an offering that has garnered acclaim as being on par with, if not surpassing, the fare at most Michelin-starred restaurants.
