BOSS MADE WFH STAFF RETURN TO OFFICE, SO NOW THEY JUST GO HOME WHEN NO WORK TO DO

0

Ever since RTO happened this week, people just have been leaving the office early once work is done

People have been leaving the office once all work and meetings are done which is like around 2 pm.

Heard people from other teams complaining that they were wasting more money coming into the office especially when the cost of living is higher and being remote or hybrid 2 days was helping offset that.

They said that to get more time back for their day, they are just going to leave once work is slow or when there is no work to be done at all and I am going to start doing the same.

Netizens’ comments

  1. Friend said our company might be 4 days back in office come the new year because the economy is struggling and no one is buying things/lunch. But like, if I have to commute 4 days now, you can guarantee i won’t be purchasing anything extra because i need to use that money.
  2. I start and finish my workdays at home, and commute during business hours. Requiring me to be in the office makes commuting part of my job.
  3. A similar thing happened when we started going back a couple days per pay period. After lunch, people just melt away… by 4pm there’s no one around. I generally work 8.30-6 (9 days per two week pay period) but have started doing the same on my in office days to avoid the worst of the commute crush. I just wrap up at home.
  4. I wouldn’t surprised if the RTO only applies to the workers. But the managers won’t think it applies to themselves. Lol So in a sense it makes it even easier for workers to go home early since no one even knows you’re there to begin with.
  5. I go to the office and get there at 11am, and leave at 1:30pm on the days I have to go in.
You only have to badge into buildings and floors, so they’ll see multiple swipes throughout the office during those times when they pull reports.
  6. The RTO push is coming from the top of the hierarchy. Office rental property owners and Banks(lenders) are having a unprecedented loss due to work from home polices -> this is the true reason why they want people back. It is not to incentivize economy, if you work from home you still need to eat, the demand for goods is similar.

MAN EARNS $6.6K/MTH, GETS A JOB OFFER FOR $7.6K BUT SCARED TO LEAVE “BIG 4” COMPANY

0

Stay in Big 4 Assurance to Manager or hop to IA?

I’m in a dilemma, I am currently an Auditor (Assistant Manager) getting 6.6k per month.

I now have an offer on the table for an Internal Audit position (Assistant Manager level), with a base of 7.6k (15% increase). This job offers potentially way better work-life balance, though it will be slower in terms of growth and increment.

If I were to stick in Big 4 for another peak, I would be promoted to Manager in July 2024, with a base salary of 6.9k or 7.3k (depends on my performance rating). After which I will hop at that point, potentially looking at a 8k base if I were to get a 15% jump, and manager title. However, this peak would not be an easy one, with FRS 117 being effective this year, the peak would be likely stretched out from Feb to Jun 2024.

Any ex-auditors can offer any advice? Especially so to those who left as an AM, as I am afraid of the potential regret if I were to leave Big 4 before hitting Manager, since it’s just another 7 more months. Which choice would you take in this situation?

Netizens’ comments

  1. Just jump again after 2 years at the new place. Regardless of whether u stay u will eventually reach parity w people who stay
  2. Jump bro.
You already have offer in hand for guaranteed +15% and better work-life balance.
Your potential promotion in Jul 2024 is all talk unless got black and white, firms will happily screw you in a downturn.
  3. I was from Big4 and I hired people from Big4
I would usually ignore statements like “I am due for promotion by XX date”
Nothing is set in stone. Your partner or director might say something to that effect but nothing is confirmed until the actual promotion meeting. And I tell you, those meetings, everyone is batting for their own favourites.
A bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush.

HAN FEIZI, WHO ILLEGALLY WORKED AS A HOSTESS, BANNED FROM WORKING IN S’PORE

29-year-old Han Feizi, who was sentenced to 5 weeks and 5 days imprisonment on 25 October for a plethora of charges that included the now-infamous incident at Singapore General Hospital.

Among her charges were two manpower-related offences, where she falsely declared in her work permit application to work as a clerk for KDL Elements, despite not intending to follow through with her declaration.

She then worked as a freelance hostess from 1 August 2023 to 11 October 2021 without a valid work permit (for the “self-employed” position).

Her work permit was subsequently cancelled following her conviction and she is now permanently barred from working in Singapore.

According to Singapore’s manpower laws, work permit holders are only allowed to work in the specific jobs stated in their permits, and for the specified employer(s); their work permit applications must also be accurate and truthful.

Persons found guilty of make a false declaration face a potential jail term of up to 2 years and/or a fine of up to $20,000, as well as possibly being banned from working here.

Recap on Singapore offences

29-year-old Chinese national Han Feizi, who has taken the Singapore news media by storm with her antics in a now-infamous incident at the Singapore General Hospital, was sentenced on 25 October to 5 weeks and 5 days imprisonment, as well as a fine of $600, according to Channel NewsAsia.

She had pleaded guilty to 5 charges that included using criminal force on a condominium security officer, insulting a hospital employee, public nuisance, making a false statement in her work permit application; three other charges were also taken into consideration during her sentencing.

The prosecution said that Han was arrested on 11 October, and the MInistry of Manpower was then informed about possible breaches under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.

Investigations then ensued and it revealed that Han had applied for a work permit earlier this year in August, after her application for a student pass was rejected.

In her application, she declared that she would be working as a clerk but failed to do so. Instead, she worked as a freelance hostess in Singapore from 1 August 2023 to 11 October 2023.

The prosecutor for MOM also added that Han had only wanted to come to Singapore to “have fun”, and that she applied for the work pass without trying to understand what it said, as the form was in English.

Incident at The Sail

The prosecution said that on 3 October at about 10pm, the police were called in by the security at The Sail at Marina Bay, a private apartment building, because there was a drunk resident that needed help.

Han was found by a security officer squatting in a common area, and she said that she was drunk; the security then helped the woman back to her unit but she became aggressive inside the lift and pushed the guard, insulting him with vulgarities.

SGH Incident

On 10 October, the Singaporean police received a call for help at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) at around 2:35 am.

Han claimed to have waited for three hours in the hospital’s emergency department without receiving any medical attention after allegedly being hit by a car.

She further alleged that a nurse told her she would not be treated because she was not a Singaporean citizen. These claims were later disputed by SGH.

She had insulted a hospital staff member and refused to put on a face mask at the time.

The woman posted two videos on Douyin, both exceeding 11 minutes. She was also seen demanding a plainclothes police officer to identify herself and attempting to grab her police lanyard.

According to ST, the Singapore Police Force said that the two plainclothes officers, who were investigations officers, had introduced themselves in front of uniformed officers before speaking to the woman.

The female police officer was seen in the video repeatedly asking the woman if she had used vulgarities on the nurse, but the woman refused to answer.

The woman refused to cooperate and used vulgarities on one of the police officers, and filmed her interview with one of the female investigation officers and sharing them on her Douyin account.

The videos, which have since been reposted on several social media platforms, have been viewed more than a million times in total.

29-year-old Han Feizi, who was sentenced to 5 weeks and 5 days imprisonment on 25 October for a plethora of charges that included the now-infamous incident at Singapore General Hospital, is revealed to have been jailed previously in China.

According to a judgement in China, there was also a woman named Han Feizi who was jailed in Beijing for dangerous driving a few years ago.

According to Shin Min Daily News, that woman is the same woman as the one in the viral SGH incident.

She was arrested on 29 December 2018 for dangerous driving and causing a car accident after drinking alcohol, at the Chao Yang district in Beijing at about 1.30am.

She was found with 89.8mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, and she later pleaded guilty to her offence and was detained from 40 days, as well as being fined 2,000 RMB (or SGD $374).

Two days later, upon her release, she was seen enjoying herself at a hot spring with her mother, and had posted numerous videos of herself in a purported Lamborghini.

WOMAN DOESN’T WANT TO WORK, WANTS TO BE A HAPPY HOUSEWIFE

0

I just wanna be a housewife and have kids and live a happy life

Everyone keeps asking me what I wanna do when I finish college and I could never speak my mind because they keep telling stuff like they wanna get a job or start a business.

I don’t wanna work, I just want to have a good home, enjoy my life with my boyfriend, have kids and take care of them.

It’s hard for me to even tell this to anyone because all everyone wants is to be independent while I feel like I’m a bit old fashioned.

for everyone asking me to have a backup plan, I’m studying at the moment and if I ever need to work for my family then I’ll always have a backup because of that degree.

Netizens’ comments

If you’re happy that’s all that should matter

My only advice would be to have a contingency plan. Domestic life can get uprooted and go wrong in so many ways

So know what your backup plan is. Other then that live your life however you want to

PHD COLLEAGUE PLAY “I DON’T FRIEND U”, EDUCATED BUT SOCIALLY LACKING

0

How do you deal with a childish petty colleague who blocks phone contact everywhere because of a personal feud? I had already apologised and admitting my part of the fault and what I did wrong, such as messaging too much outside of work hours.

However on his part, he got no humility to admit his own faults on his part, thinking that hes flawless and blameless in the whole issue. He doesnt see where he went wrong, including being delusional in trying to justify his wrong doings of gossiping as being correct.

He intentionally avoids and refuses to resolve the conflict regardless of how many times I tried to bring it up to him and our mentor and now our professor for resolvation.

It affects work because we are working in a lab and everybody has to be contactable when running experiments in case of emergencies. The situation had escalated to our professor’s level but he is too nice and doesnt solve the problem.

The colleague is a mature 26 year old phd student, like seriously. Only primary school kids would play the block unblock I dont friend you kind of game.

Here are what netizens think:

  • i wldnt even b bothered. i’ll just do my part of the work.Problem has been raised to your professor. Anything happens, just shift the blame to him for being uncontactable and a non team player.
  • This kind study until sot one, don’t have social skills one

800 STUDENTS, INCLUDING EVEN PRIMARY SCHOOL KIDS, PROSECUTED FOR ILLEGAL VAPING

0

In 2022, the authorities in Singapore found themselves grappling with an unexpected and alarming rise in vaping-related offences among students.

A total of 800 students, ranging from primary-school children to those enrolled in tertiary education and universities, were prosecuted for various vaping offences.

This surge in cases has sparked concerns over the escalating popularity of electronic cigarettes among the youth.

The Growing Concern

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) disclosed that the Ministry of Education (MOE) had referred these students to them for their vaping-related activities and some of them received fines as a result.

Persons who are caught buying, using or having a vaporiser in Singapore face a fine of up to $2,000, for each offence.

The Student Demographic

While the MOE confirmed that the students involved ranged from primary schools to autonomous universities, they declined to provide a detailed breakdown.

However, it’s crucial to note that this surge represents a significant departure from previous years. Second Minister for Education Maliki Osman reported in Parliament earlier this month (3 October) that less than 50 students from schools and IHLs were referred to HSA for vaping offences before 2020.

This spike in cases has raised concerns not only among government officials but also various health agencies.

A Multi-Agency Approach

In response to this growing issue, HSA has teamed up with the Ministry of Health and Health Promotion Board (HPB) to address it from multiple angles.

Their strategy encompasses legislation of laws, enforcement actions, educating the public, and counselling to combat the possession and use of vaporizers among our youths.

Mandatory Cessation Programs

To deter students from engaging in vaping activities, a crucial component of their strategy is the requirement for students caught using or possessing e-vaporizers to attend cessation programs arranged by HPB and their respective schools.

This proactive approach aims to educate and guide students away from this harmful habit. For those who persist in their vaping habits, schools have the authority to refer them to HSA for further action, including composition fines or prosecution.

The Ban and Its Impact

It’s essential to remember that there has been a ban on e-cigarettes or vaporizers in Singapore since February 2018.

Nevertheless, a disconcerting 4,916 people were apprehended in 2022 for using and possessing vaporizers, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s 4,697 cases and a stark contrast to the 1,266 cases in 2020.

Legal Consequences for Suppliers

The HSA reported that just last month, 18 individuals were convicted for selling vaporizers and related components between April and August 2023.

They received a total of $153,000 worth of fines.

Those caught importing, distributing, or selling such products face fines of up to $10,000 and the possibility of a jail sentence of up to six months, or both, for the first offence.

YOUNG INTERN FALLS IN LOVE WITH SUPERVISOR, JEALOUS OF HER HUSBAND

0

During my internship earlier this year in June, I was fortunate to work under a talented, ambitious and attractive supervisor in what I had previously assumed to be a boring run-of-the-mill job. Near the end of the internship, her team, including myself, was invited to her 30th birthday party at an upscale restaurant.

It was there that I had met her husband for the first time, and I’m disappointed with him. I don’t think he takes care of himself: he dressed sloppily in a slightly oversized polo, unkempt hair, not engaging in any conversation, and downright not worthy of her. I became secretly rather angry and disheartened that someone like her would be off the market for someone like him.

Now I’m back in class, unable to study or focus on much, thinking about her deeply for the past weeks. I’ve been resisting the urge to text or even follow her on social media, but it’s demanding so much of my patience. Fate is cruel. Even though she is eight years older than me, I’ve never had a crush on someone so deeply before.

Here are what netizens think:

  • You probably think that you will be a much better partner for her. Go get psychological help. Tending towards narcissism.
  • The really rich men need not look good to feel good about themselves. How would u know what the partner see in him? Perhaps his intelligence? His wealth? Hahaha the typical ego young dude who thinks she deserves someone like him. Op: “I’ll definitely treat her 10x better than you.”. Despite his appearance, bet he has deeper pockets than you do LOL
  • Who are you to judge how her husband is like? It’s your karma that you suffer the thoughts of her. Hope you diminish the thought soon.
  • 1) he has probably deeper pockets
    2) he probably focus on her than himself, that’s why he dress so chill
3)he probably tired with work, came straight after and still make time for her birthday party
4)if you don’t study and cannot graduate, you CONFIRM cannot take care of her.

MAN DROVE WITHOUT LICENSE & KILLED CYCLIST @ JURONG, VICTIM BLED FROM EARS & NOSE

0

70-year-old van driver Bhagwan Tulsidas Binwani, was sentenced on 26 October to 12 weeks imprisonment and fined $3,800, as well as being banned from holding all classes of driving licenses for 12 months, and another 8 years upon his release from prison.

He had driven without a valid driving license and killed a cyclist at a zebra crossing, according to TODAY.

What happened?

On 27 December 2021, Bhagwan Tulsidas Binwani, was operating his vehicle along Jurong Port Road in the direction of Corporation Road, he made a turn into the slip road leading to Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim.

It was at this juncture that Bhagwan failed to slow down as he approached a zebra crossing, and he collided with Khan Suruj, a construction worker, who was commuting on his bicycle.

The impact of the collision was severe, causing Khan, aged 54, to be catapulted off his bicycle, landing a short distance away from the collision point.

The gravity of the situation was immediately evident to Mr. Eugene Loo, a passing driver who happened to witness the incident.

He promptly stopped his vehicle and rushed to Khan’s aid. Khan was lying face down, motionless on the road, and bleeding from his ears and nose.

As Mr. Loo called for an ambulance, another compassionate passerby stopped to assist Khan. Mr. Loo also flagged down a passing police car, whose officers arrived at the scene and reported the accident.

Bhagwan’s Account and the Unfortunate Truth

During the subsequent investigations, Bhagwan Tulsidas Binwani asserted that he did not see the cyclist, Khan, before the collision.

Video footage from Mr. Loo’s dashcam provided crucial evidence. It revealed that Khan’s bicycle had already advanced onto the zebra crossing before Bhagwan’s van reached the stop line at the zebra crossing.

It led to Khan being flung off his bicycle and striking the van’s windscreen. Tragically, as the van continued forward, Khan’s legs were run over, ultimately causing him to lie face down on the road.

The victim was subsequently pronounced dead on 28 December 2021 after succumbing to his traumatic injuries, and it was determined in an autopsy that he died from an injury to his head.

ALLEGED MAIDS SEEN STANDING ON ROOF WITHOUT SAFETY HARNESSES, NETIZENS CONCERNED

0

A recent image emerged online, depicting two women perched on a second-floor ledge of a multi-story property to install holiday decorations.

It has since stirred anxiety among internet users and ignited discussions about safety precautions among domestic helpers.

Standing on roof of landed home

On Tuesday, October 24, two photographs were shared online, showcasing the women in question situated atop the roof of what appears to be a landed home.

In one of the images, one of the women can be observed holding a string of lights.

The netizen who posted the pictures raised the issue by asking in his post, “Are maids allowed to do this? Saw this today, is this even allowed? 2 maids hanging up deco on a 2nd floor ledge with no railings or fall harness. Looks pretty dangerous to me”

The post pointed out the absence of any protective railings on the ledge and also highlighted that the women, described as domestic helpers in the post, were not equipped with safety harnesses during their precarious task.

The exact location of the incident was not disclosed in the post, but it is believed to be a house located somewhere in Seletar.

The incident has triggered a significant response on social media, with many individuals expressing alarm over the apparent safety risks associated with such activities.

Netizens’ comments

  1. No. Report that shit before someone gets seriously hurt.
  2. Wah that’s one hella big house.
  3. More like, are the employers supposed to be endangering their maid’s life like this? Answer is a flat NO.
Under work safety rules (MOM), any work at that height would require a barricade, safety harness and safety officer on site to supervise the work.
Please report this to MOM. Sickening.
  4. Actually no one is allowed to do that. You need to be trained to work from height.
  5. I see alot of polarizing comments here. But what is clear is the crime of hanging christmas lights in October.
  6. That is definitely in breach of some WSH act. Working at height requires the worker to wear a harness that’s secured to a point at the very least
  7. When they pay, they say. Don’t think for a second that home owner won’t spin it to say that they instructed their maid to do something, but never specifically tell them “how” to do it.
Then they will berate the maid on why they didn’t use common sense on performing the task in a safe manner etc.
