6 Y.O BOY TRIPS OVER HOLE WITH EXPOSED SCREWS @ SENGKANG PLAYGROUND, BROKE HIS ARM

0

A young boy tripped over a hole with exposed screws at a playground located in Sengkang, fell down and ended up breaking his arm as a result.

The incident happened last Wednesday (22 March) at about 7 pm, according to the boy’s single mother Ms Yang, who resides at Block 123B Rivervale Drive.

Ms Yang, a 34-year-old bank teller, spoke to Shin Min Daily News and said that her maid had gone downstairs to take their dog for a walk, along with her 6-and-a-half-year-old son, to the playground.

At the time of the incident, the maid was looking after the dog and wasn’t paying attention to the boy, until she later heard crying and realised that the boy had fallen down.

The maid then helped the injured boy back home.

Ms Yang added that her son was crying at the time and appeared to have a dislocation on his left arm, and she then immediately called for a taxi and brought the boy to the hospital.

They had initially thought it was a dislocation and went to the hospital for x-rays, and the doctor told them that it was more serious than they had initially thought, before referring them to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

The mother asked the boy what happened and how he had fallen and injured himself, and he told her that he had tripped over a hole in the playground during the incident.

As it turns out, there was a rocking chair designed as a zebra at the playground that had been removed, and it left behind a gaping hole with the screws exposed.

The boy was found with a broken arm and had to go through surgery to fix three steel nails into his arm and allow his bones to reset the next day.

The nails had to be inside his arm for two months before they can be removed.

However, Yang added that the doctor told her that her son’s bones will grow permanently crooked in the future, and she doesn’t know how this will impact his life.

Sengkang Town Council responded to media questions about the incident and said that they regret the incident and will remain in close contact with Ms Yang.

The affected area where the boy had fallen and broken his arm at the playground has also been cordoned off after the incident, and the hole has since been filled in.

Yang said that she had contacted the town council after she brought her son home from the hospital on 23 March and went to check on the playground, but found that the area was not cordoned off until the next day (24 March).

She said that the hole was only fixed 3 days later.

80 Y.O WOMAN FOUND DEAD @ HOLLAND DRIVE HDB, NEIGHBOUR NOTICED FOUL SMELL

0

The decomposing body of an 80-year-old woman was found in her HDB unit yesterday (26 March), after a neighbour had noticed a foul smell emanating from the unit.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the residents living there described the deceased, who was a retired teacher living alone in her HDB unit along Holland Drive, as having good relations and being friendly with her neighbours.

A spokesperson for the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that on Sunday at about 1.55 pm, they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at Block 11 Holland Drive, where the elderly woman was found lying down in the unit motionless.

A resident living nearby, shared with SMDN that she had returned home at the time and saw several police officers outside the woman’s locked unit, and a locksmith later managed to open the door at about 3 pm in the afternoon.

The resident further added that she hadn’t seen the elderly woman for about a week and had initially thought that she was away and didn’t turn the lights on at night.

She added that because the woman was a retired teacher who used to teach at a primary school nearby, everyone in the neighbourhood called her teacher, and every evening when the woman went for dinner, she would stop and chat with her neighbours.

The police were alerted to the grisly find after the deceased’s nest door neighbour had noticed a foul smell coming from the unit and was worried.

The elderly woman’s dead body was then removed from the unit at about 5 pm.

The resident also revealed that the elderly woman, who wasn’t married at the time of her death, once mentioned that she was born in 1943.

Another 70-year-old resident, Mr Hong, said that the deceased had lived in the estate for 40 years and everyone there knew her quite well.

The other residents also shared with SMDN that the elderly woman once lived with her elder sister, who later died, and the sister’s children also never visited her.

The police are not suspecting any foul play in the elderly woman’s death, and police investigations are currently ongoing.

PM LEE – GOVT PROMISES ALL HDB FLATS WILL BE A “VALUABLE NEST EGG” FOR RETIREMENT

0

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Monday (26 March) that every public housing town and estate in Singapore will be a good one for Singaporeans, no matter which HDB town they live in.

He said that the government promises all Singaporeans that HDB flats will be a valuable nest egg for their retirement.

PM Lee was speaking during a groundbreaking ceremony for Chong Pang City on 26 March, showing the integrated development in Yishun that will be completed in 2027.

PM Lee also further added that Singapore’s public housing system works, and no matter the popularity of the towns, residents can expect every estate to be “well-planned, well-appointed, well-maintained”, and that “your property values will reflect that.”

PM Lee’s post on Facebook

Joined Nee Soon residents at the groundbreaking ceremony of Chong Pang City this morning.

This is a major project to build a new integrated community hub that will house community, social and leisure activities in one convenient location.

When completed in 2027, residents will enjoy a host of facilities such as rooftop swimming pools, a gymnasium, fitness studios, wet market and a hawker centre.

Chong Pang City is just one example of what we have been doing all over Singapore – building Housing & Development Board estates with up-to-date amenities to meet the needs of residents, and progressively redeveloping older estates to rejuvenate the neighbourhood and infrastructure.

This is our promise to Singaporeans: no matter which HDB town you live in, your flat will be a good home for you and your family, and a valuable nest egg for your retirement.

A lot of hard work and planning has gone into the development of Chong Pang City. My thanks to all the grassroots leaders, volunteers, agencies involved, and residents for making this a reality! – LHL

MAN NEVER CONTROL HIS SPENDING HABITS, ALWAYS TAKES IT THAT FRIEND WILL LEND HIM MONEY

0

I used to think that having a generous friend was a blessing.

Someone who could help me out in times of need and whom I could return the favour to if he or she helped me and needed it back.

I was not stingy with my friends and in the end, one of my close friends took it as a given that I would always lend him money and this did not take care or his finances

Afterall, I believed what goes around comes around but I was wrong about it.

My friend always takes it for granted that I will lend him money whenever he needs it, and because of this, he never ever thinks about his spending habits.

It all started when he borrowed a few hundred dollars from me and promised to pay me back soon. I thought it would be a one-time thing, but it wasn’t.

He kept coming back for more, and I kept giving it to him, because afterall he did pay me back the money which he borrowed, though sometimes it took a little longer.

He would find new excuses each time he had to borrow money, such as his car broke down or his salary had not come in yet.

I mean I was fine with it but as time went on, I started to get frustrated and felt like I was a convenience.

He never seemed to learn his lesson and he never changed his spending habits. He was always living beyond his means and spending money that he didn’t have.

I tried to talk to him about his spending habits out of concern because he was my friend, but he always just gave me a ‘Ya bro, i know’ as a reply and every other month still continued to borrow money from me.

One day, I had finally had enough. I told him that I was not willing to lend him any more money and that he needed to change his spending habits.

I told him that I was done and that he needed to start taking responsibility for his own finances.

He got angry and accused me of not being a good friend. He said that I should be more understanding and that I should always be willing to help him out.

I refused him and though he reluctantly sucked it up, I realised that he did not contact me as much anymore which made me feel that our friendship was based on me lending him money only.

GIRL CAN’T TAKE IT THAT BF IS A SOCIAL BUTTERFLY, GO WHERE ALSO KNOW PEOPLE

0

I met my ex-boyfriend when we were both in Poly.

He was from the school’s student committee and was quite high profile amongst the student body.

I was in love with him and I felt like I had known him my entire life.

We connected on every level and it was like nothing I had ever experienced before.

But then I started to realize that he was a bit of a social butterfly. Everywhere we went, he seemed to know someone.

He would be talking to people, introducing me to them, and I was feeling like I was just a tag along in his life.

I mean, I knew he was popular but I just thought it like people know of his existence but he does not really know them on a personal level.

It made me feel so insecure and I started to question our relationship because I was constantly worried about him being unfaithful or meeting someone else.

He had a lot of female friends and I was jealous of all of the attention he was getting from them. I felt like they overpowered me and he was not giving me enough attention as he gave others.

I got to the point where I couldn’t stand being around him when he was talking to other people. I was always wondering if he was flirting with someone else or if he was talking about me behind my back.

I was so insecure and I couldn’t take it anymore.

Due to the constant insecurities I faced, I decided to leave him and tried to move on and find someone else, but I just couldn’t.

Everyone else I met kinda knew him and it seems like he will never get out of my life.

I realised I was still in love with him and I couldn’t help but feel like I was missing something when I was with someone else.

I took a break from social media and from people whom were close to us but I eventually realised that no matter how far away I got, I would never be able to really get away from him or remove him from my life.

CRAZY MAN LIE DOWN IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TO FULFIL HIS DREAM OF BEING A ROAD HUMP

A video emerged online showing a man lying down on his back in the middle of the road, on a zebra crossing, along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

He was seen in the video lying down on the road and staying motionless on the ground before suddenly getting up and walking away.

The incident happened on Friday (24 March) at about 10.33am, along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 heading towards Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, and was captured on the dashcam of a car that was trying to turn left but was blocked from doing so by the man.

In the video, the cam car was seen trying to turn left on the slip road, before slowing down to a halt because the man was lying down in the middle of the zebra crossing.

The car had to stop to avoid running the man over, who remained lying down on the ground for about 13 seconds before getting up like nothing happened.

He then walked across the road, followed by another pedestrian, before the cam car could continue driving on and completing the left turn.

WOMAN BOOKED PHV BUT DRIVERS KEEP CANCELLING, WAIT FROM 6AM TO 7.30AM

0

Hi All,

I booked Grab or Gojek depend on the price every day, my question is: if the car waited for us and we are late we need to pay late fee.

What about customer waited for 7 to 10mins and the driver cancel the booking and customer need to rebook again. What customer get? Late for work and pay ERP?

From 6+ am i booked for car and get my car 7.30am (due to earlier driver cancellation), i have Waited for the driver who took my booking ..

indicated waiting time 6mins…suddenly change to 20 mins and after that more than 5 mins later he cancelled the booking.

I rebooked again and wait for the 2nd driver and by the time 2nd driver arrived is already 7.30am.

NEtizens’ comments

  1. I hardly use PHV in Singapore but will use their service when I travel especially in Malaysia. Just to share my experience in my recent trip to KL. We have booked via Grab on a Friday evening. It was raining heavily and the app indicated 20 mins and subsequently updated to 30 mins.
Considering it was peak period and the traffic condition at that time, we did not cancel the booking and driver called us to confirm that we are fine to wait at least 30 mins because he said many customers would cancel so he better make sure before he brave the traffic jam and end up customer cancel the booking.
I think it works both ways so I would suggest to call the driver to reassure that you are fine to wait and on driver’s end to honour the booking
  2. PHV drivers if accept n cancelled they will be penalised with demerit points which cannot be more than the setting percentage and if frequent cancellations they will be suspended or barred from driving from that organise company.
  3. if every passenger let driver wait 3 mins, drivers have 30 trips a day, meaning, he/she will be spending 90 mins a day on waiting. lets be fair. and book only when you are ready.
and as someone already commented, driver who accepted the ride and cancel subsequently will be penalised in someway. could be incentive or for Tada, monetary penalty. hope this explain well
  4. Actually for grab, they have this thing where if the driver is nearby & didn’t arrive at location within 10mins/cancel, we will get $5 grab voucher.
A couple of times, this happened & i do get the voucher. But yes, the inconvenience is not worth the $5 voucher , tbh.
